I have been using a 20x jeweler's loupe (bought from Amazon) for a few years. While it let me see things, the best it can do is distinguish colors--by the time you can see the amber of decay, you're a bit late. I needed a closer look to know if I was within the harvest window, and the loupe was not sufficient for that. At its lowest setting (60x) is three times as powerful as the loupe I was using. I found that you really have to have the patience of Job if you plan to try freehanding with it, but if you can hold steady enough for long enough, and there's no breeze at all--WOW, the view from this is stunning. It reminded me of those scenes in the 1971 movie "The Andromeda Strain" when they were using an electron microscope to examine the virus. So, if you're not ... So, if you're not easily frustrated, its lowest setting (60x) can be freehanded to a point, but going higher (it goes up to 120x) would likely require everything to be completely motionless and hands-off. However, if you can be at the right place at the right time, this thing can display exactly what you need to see in glorious detail. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I had something similar to this as a kid and remember being fascinated at what things look like then you can stop and look close enough. I really wanted to try that again and this guy really filled that role well. The light is a nice touch, the focus ring is large, easy to adjust and not sticky or finicky and the whole thing fits in your pocket. I'd suggest getting a case for it though and maybe an eyeglass cleaning microfiber cloth. This would be a great piece in your Pandemic Schooling arsenal or just to have some fun looking at stuff. The attached photos are the blue side and white side of a disposable face mask.
I bought this for my 7-year-old nephew for Christmas. I think the adults at the Christmas party wanted to use it more than my nephew so it's really great for any age! However, I like that it is simple enough to use that my nephew can use it on his own without help. The light on it is pretty high quality too which is really important for a clear view.
This is a SUPER power little portable microscope with an led light. It is definitely worth the less than $20 i paid. The reason I'm giving it 3/5 stars is because the adjustment know is not very accurate and results in trouble focusing. It appears to have two lenses that are manually adjusted and the lever doesn't move them evenly. I got this to look at slabs of rocks and its almost too powerful fir my needs. Very cool and affordable gadget!
You can get this exact unit; Carson MicroBrite Plus 60-120x LED Pocket Microscope Model #: MM-300 from Carson Optical's Amazon Store Page for literally $12. How are you gonna sit here and charge people $50+ for a product you can get directly from the Manufacturer 5x's cheaper. That is called "Robbery" a 2nd-Degree Felony and in the good 'ol U.S.A. punishable by up to 15yrs in Prison. The larger majority of these poor victims just wanted to buy their kids something that will nurture their natural want to learn, and here you are committing a 2nd-degree Felony just to make a buck of these poor individuals. Absolutely Disgusting... Pure Filth, makes me sick... go on, say what you will. You, I and the Good Lord know the truth and you can't Hide from Either.
I’ll give this little gadget 4 stars because it does actually work as a microscope and lets me see my T’s super close up. It’s not easy though. You really have to work at it and it can get frustrating. Once you hit the sweet spot, it’s very difficult to stay there but it is possible and really cool and handy when you’re able to. I’m hoping with more practice it’ll get easier for me. All that aside though, to be able to see so close up for 11 bucks is totally worth it. Gets so much closer than the 30x magnifier I was first trying to use. It really is a microscope.
compatible with any slides. but you dont need them, you can use on just about any object. it comes with 5! and a case with cleaning cloth, all very nice. only improvement id say is more instruction on how to focus, sometimes a struggle to find objects or maybe im just not doing properly
