I've had one Casio watch before and felt it was too "nice" for daily use. Yes, a $20 watch felt too nice for me. So, I wanted a more "basic" watch and this was perfect. A bit bulky compared to my other but I like it. The display is like a privacy screen where you have to be looking directly at it to see the time which I like. Also, the band doesn't leave any tight red marks from wearing all day.

I love that negative display. Don’t like the unnecessary information on the screen, like the year. I mean we should all at least know what year it is. I understand the day, the month and the date, but I think that adding the year is too much information.

One that isn't available with the other modes... A hidden countdown timer! Yep, this watch has a countdown timer that was disabled at the factory. The bands won't last long term, but you should easily be able to get a few years out of it. There are plenty of replacement bands out there that can be had fairly inexpensively, whether you choose something leather, resin, canvas, nylon, NATO, ZULU or whatever, there are no shortage of bands you can put on this watch. In daylight, it’s great. But I need this a lot in lower light early morning or late night times. (Tried to illustrate this in pics). I am a long time use of Casio watches but I always bought the light background with dark gray letters and numbers. I saw this one and got curious. I did not use it because the background and letter/digit contrast is poor, hard to read which defeats the purpose of using a digital watch. Do not misunderstand, the quality and design is the Casio best but reading is difficult. I wear all black dress on my assignments and would love to see improvement in this Casio watch because it matches my dress. Hope Casio representatives will read my comments and forward to the development team.
I tried this "blackout" version to see the time in the dark. My previous "Illuminator" watch was too bright and created too much glare to see when I wake up in the middle of night. This watch is OK for that. But the back-light only lights up one corner and the other three corners are very dim. This watch is difficult to see in daylight and indoor lighting. It does help if you are directly above it. The numbers appear nothing like they do in the picture. The contrast is not as sharp, especially with the smaller numbers. I love Casio watches, but I do NOT recommend the "Blackout" version.
It is a nice watch. It came packaged good. It does everything it says. I wasn't sure about buying it with some of the reviews saying it was too dark. They were right. You can see it better outside and in bright lights but in low light, its hard to see. The backlight was not very bright. But overall, It's a nice watch, nice size, but the other reviews were right, it can be hard to see.
