The problem with the negative display on this watch is that you ALWAYS need very good lighting directly above the watch or at some angle in order to be able to tell the time. I like the watch and strap. I wish the bezel case was slightly smaller as it prevents full wrist movement unless you move the watch higher up on arm. The strap feels comfortable, but metal clasp may be unnecessary.

It’s everything I thought it would be. At first I was a bit disappointed with the screen being negative and not very readable in low light but it has auto light which sort of solves that problem because outside the screen is fine. I had wanted the black and red variant but a week after owning this I got used to it and I now don’t want to take it off, it has in fact replaced my GBD-H2000 because of just how nice it is. Don’t worry about the negative display this thing looks cool AF! The quality is top notch as you’d expect from a G-Shock also the buttons are big and easy to use great for outdoors while wearing cloves for instance! I highly recommend the rangeman it’s fantastic!!

The display is harder to read, but "harder to read" doesn't mean this will be an issue. I learned the right angle to hold it for best legibility very quickly, and it's muscle memory by now. It's only ever an issue in dim lighting conditions, but there's an auto-backlight function. Despite using this liberally set at 3s, it's failed do drop the battery down from H, where it's sat since day 2.Pros:- Forget about ever worrying about your battery- Lovely design- Forgot how much I missed hourly signals- Very sturdy and secure strap- Large front-facing light button is easy ... Once you're used to how different pressures and trends work in your area, your predictions will be pretty sharp- Altimeter is fun.- Compass got me home once.- Multiband !!! There's just something very satisfying knowing your watch is always accurate to a fraction of a second. For all intents and purposes, your watch is as accurate as an atomic clock.Neutral:- Thermometer is fairly useless since it's against your body heat. What you can do to get use out of it, is set it after you've worn it about an hour at home at your usual home temperature. It will then shift relative to this known point. Using it to actually read the temp is a non-starter unless you want to take it off and leave it to acclimate.Bad:- Strap metal should be black too. That's my only fault.
My first G-Shock, and I'm not disappointed. It takes a little adjustment to go from 100% analogue to 100% digital, but I'm making progress. The negative display is easier to read than what the critics say, but you do need to have the right viewing angle and the right lighting to see it best. In bright sunlight I can read it best. In low light conditions the LED shows the complete face just fine. Knowing my altitude and barometric pressure is nice. The atomic timekeeping is also great, but occasionally I have to take it out of my basement and manually sync it. The resin band wears comfortably, but does get sweaty during hot active days.
I have a number of G-Shocks and this is by far my favourite. Rugged but light, big but not too big. No issues with reading the display, I like the negative digits. Instead of having hundreds of useless functions, this watch has ones you need, and will actual use if you spend anytime outdoors. No nonsense, professional and tough.
I love the G Shock G9400,this one is my 5th Rangeman. I have never had an issue with this model,it is pretty much bulletproof, and it looks great in all black. The only drawback is that some people find the negative display difficult to read in sunlight,but that is the case for almost neg displays. But the beauty of the G9400 is the huge amount of bezels and straps you can customise your watch with. But I have owned a G9400 since they first went on sale,and my first one has never needed a battery change,as it is a rechargeable battery..couple of days on the windowsill,or if you have on,a solar watch charger.
Fantastic service - the GW-9400 watch was delivered within a day with medium level of charge. It took less than one more day to fully charge the battery. Synchronisation with radio time signal has been faultless.The barometer reading matched that of the nearest weather station. North is where it was supposed to be. The negative LCD display excels outdoors and at night. I like the calm businesslike monochrome look.
I purchased this watch as an upgrade from a previous G Shock that I loved and still have in working order. I wanted something with even more functionality. The unit is solidly built like my other G Shock but this feels more premium and substantial. I feel like I have an awesome piece of survival gear on my wrist. I love my apple watch but this to me is a real “smart watch”.

It’s wonderfully big and chonky like a good GShock, but feather light and obscenely comfy on thr wrist. There’s just one problem for me, and it probably comes down to personal preference, but I found the black-out to be very difficult to read in nothing other than direct sunlight. There is an automatic backlight function you can enable which lights up the display when you turn the watch towards you, and this helps a lot when you’re in a place with minimal lighting. At the end of the day, I returned the watch because there’s so much awesome tech packed in this timepiece but it’s “hidden” by a difficult-to-read display. If you’re thinking about it, I say go ...
