I was happy with this product. It is the one I always use. Although when I tried to purchase the advisor at the till asked me three times whether or not I actually needed the product and do I understand my warning lights properly? Being female does not make you stupid. I fully understood what I wanted and needed.
Spoke with sales representative prior to oil check up and chose the Castrol Edge fully synthetic product, which was on offer at the time to top up oil. This was not the reason I chose the product, it was the key benefits that were the deciding factors.
I wouldn’t or don’t normally use Halfords for car oil as they’re not usually anywhere near the cheapest source, however, in the case of this Castrol Edge 5W-30 in the 1 ltr size, they were (although I also needed a 5 ltr size too as my car’s engine requires over 5 ltrs for a full refill which I got much cheaper elsewhere). Don’t rely though on the info or recommendations that the Halford’s website throws at you as it’s not always accurate in my experience, and (unsurprisingly perhaps), it seems biased towards certain products and not others even when one product’s specification is identical to another’s.
Castrol has been the best lubricating brand for many years.My yearly mileage is low and the oil needed has to be good for lots of short journeys. Castrol fits the need
Nowadays, you need oil that meets the specification of your car. There were two types of Castrol Edge 5/30, one ending in M and one ending in LL. Checked the in-store terminal and for my car its the M version. Only issue is removing the foil lid underneath the red cap as this needs to be done carefully to avoid parts of the foil dropping into the oil (and then your engine).
Great engine oil. Best out there for me. I like it because I trust it, less engine noise and a slight MPG benefit post oil change.
Who remembers those adverts from the 80s for Castrol? With Mahler’s Symphony No.7 playing as the oil drip wanders around a bit? I was hoping that’d play as I opened the lid to watch the oil do it’s roving thing. Sadly it doesn’t and I would pay extra to have it happen. Anyway, my car loves this stuff and always seems to be asking for more - maybe it has a problem…
