Catmate is a company that cares about how the catdoor will look after installation, so they include small caps that cover the screw holes which make the installation look very clean. Im no "Bob Vila", and I was able to install this catdoor with ease. I would recommend buying the kit that comes with the 2" door liner if you are installing in a bedroom door or the main doors in your home. The 2" door liner makes it look nice, and not have an empty space between the 2 frames. Spend a little more and buy the kit with the doorliner and you will be much happier. I am very impressed with these doors. The latch is very secure, reducing airway issues. The fitting and seal on the door seems to be leak-proof. I love how you can lock them to only allow entry. They even have a tint to prevent other animals from walking right in. I bought two, will buy again for a third entry for my cats.

Because none of these keep the cold air out, I used this one on the exterior of the house (and added an extra tunnel piece) to the inside of a closet. Then I used a cheaper one on the closet door. So far, the buffer of the closet has keep most of the cold out. However, it is clear that this one is built better. The cheaper one will get stuck in the open position and not fall back down. This one is sturdy.
I installed this in a plexiglass panel, added a frame that slipped inside the window frame and success! My cats now have access to their catio without asking, and I can remove it to open the whole window for cleaning. Please note: I am so glad I got the large (flap), as my average sized cats would not have had enough room to get through without touching the sides. The small one should be fine temporarily for KITTENS! (Plastic locks are difficult to slide, so hope they won't break. So far so good.)
I purchased the Cat Mate large cat door to install in a 2x3 studded wall and finished with drywall and beadboard paneling on the walls. The directions on this site will tell you that there is no wall liner for this Cat Mate door but when I checked the Closer Pets website I found out that they are the same company and it will fit perfectly. I took a chance and it was made for each other. I ordered one Closer Pets wall liner and the Large Cat Mate cat door. Went together easily after cutting out both sides of the wall and screwing two short 2x3's in between the wall on both sides of the cutouts so that both sides of the cat door had something solid to screw into. Hardest part was making sure the two cutouts lined up well.
After installing the cat door, and training the cats to come in and out, the next day I toggled the buttons to lock it. They are very cheap and don't feel very secure to move, but I was able to lock it. Then, later, when I unlocked the cat door, the buttons would not allow the door to fully unlock. I have to push very hard to push the door open (much harder than my cats are able to push), and then when I do, it doesn't close completely on the other side, so it's letting cold air in. I am requesting a refund.

the door does not fit flush w/ the frame. I can see daylight between the edge of the door and the frame, which means that blowing rain will be able to get through.having the locking, etc. instructions on the door is very difficult. there used to be a separate icon provided, which is much more useful.this door is better than nothing, but it is not as good as the original CatMate doors.for some reason I found the installation instructions confusing, even tho I have installed two of these in the past, especially info about which screws to use. maybe this is why I managed to install it backwards, which fortunately works ok in my situation.
