Cateye EL135 Front Light Black

This is my 4th cateye light and sadly did not meet my expectations for a cateye product. The light will not mount on the bike as the bit that catches on the bike mount is far too indented to engage. Reading the reviews on Wiggle suggests that this is not an isolated incident. Required a little hack with a rubber band to get the new light to mount.

Good backup bike headlight

Cateye Opticube is a good backup headlight. Tends to be destroyed by alkaline battery leakage, particularly if bike is left hanging on wall front end down. I recommend using Ultimate Lithium Energizer AA non rechargeable cells to avoid the alkaline leakage problem. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I have lost a few of these now when alkaline batteries leaked. These ones I just purchased were replacements. Flashing mode is great for dusk conditions. Light is not terribly bright for dark night conditions but adequate to prevent being pulled over and ticketed. I use a brighter rechargeable for main headlamp but like having the Cateye along for dusk flashing use and in case the main light is not charged or is forgotten at home.

Great tail light, but headlight isn't perfect.

The tail light is perfect. Very bright with different flash modes to save battery, or constant on. The front light doesn't put out even light. It is bright, and gives plenty of light for riding, but there are dark and light spots. Because the front part is clear plastic, the stobe will drive you crazy in the dark. I had to put a piece of electricians tape on it. I was looking for a light I could use my rechargable batteries in, and this fills the bill. I can carry spares if I need to. I have gotten spoiled by even lights that don't have any dark spots. I also like the handlebar attachments. They work well.

Inexpensive, bright light with long battery life

I needed a battery operated light to take on a four day bike ride. I have better lights but they need charging. This one is fit for purpose. Reasonable quality, three bright LEDs, a flashing mode, easy to install and a great price. It will go on my grandson's bike when I am done with it.

Larger prints for people that have bad sight

Have known this brand for a long time . And is known to be very reliable. Instructions print can be a little larger . Its harder for senior to read instructions. I needed to get help just to have it install .

Product manufactored below previous high standard.

Now a sub-standard product.Product had to be hacked to enable it to be secured safely to the handle bars. Locking pin either not molded long enough, or poor manufacturing of product.I have been using this product of various versions for 7 years with great success. I liked the reasonable price and the long battery life via the AA batteries which is easier on my lifestyle compared to always having to frequently recharge multiple USB devices. Sorry, will need to find a suitable alternate in future.

Runs on batteries, doesn't need to be recharged

This is a basic headlight that will work well. It doesn't have the brightness of 1,000 suns like the new and expensive ones they make now. But it's fine for daytime and for places with streetlights, where I intend to use it. It will gently warn you when to replace the batteries by slowly getting less bright.Just slap in a couple of new AAA batteries and you are good to go! If you don't want the hassle of recharging and the inconvenience of not having a light when it has discharged, this is a reasonably priced way to go. I am giving it 4 stars because the strap used to attach it to the handlebars won't hold up as long as the old hard plastic mounts manufacturers used to use. But if you don't overtighten it, I expect it will last for years.

Very good enough for city streets

It is adequate for use on city streets. You can see well enough with it to avoid the potholes. On flashing you see stops signs light up several blocks away, suggesting the the unit creates visibility for you. One thing that I like about it is that it is so tiny and light, that it doesn't tend to rotate on the handlebar like many others I have used. It is so light and small that I don't remove it for daytime riding as I have in the past with other lights. This would not be useful for trail riding.

Very susceptible to water damage, be warned.

I bought this as part of a set. After using it for about a month I got caught in a downpour (visibility less than 20 yards, a once-a-summer kind of storm). The tail light held out like a champ but the headlight didn't work the next day (although it did make it all the way home, around 4-5 miles that day). Its bright, constructed well, easy to remove so it doesn't get stolen, but if you buy it look into possible waterproofing.PROS: Helmet/Removable mount, Great visibilityBEST USES: Night commute, Front headlight

Worth the money.

Pro's; easy to install, works great I especially the flashing mode, easy to replace batteries without removing unit from its mount Con's; not easy to remove from mount. This is my second one in five years and the only reason I replaced it is that I snapped the locking mechanism when I tried to remove it. All in all a very nice safety feature.
