We mostly use these for spotting bears and other wildlife at Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains. We already had the greenCelestron Nature DX 8x42 Binoculars to compare with these Nature DX ED glass 8x42 Binoculars and the Extra-Low-Dispersion Glass or ED glass really does make a huge huge difference, the clarity and brightness is such I would not go back to the regular green Nature DX 8x42 myself after having the Ed glass.I really wanted the Vortex Diamondbacks was my first pick but these were more in my budget. If a family member needed a recommendation on a pair of binoculars this is what I would recommend to them, the clarity and brightness you receive for the cost.

We had very carefully researched the specific features needed in binoculars and determined this was the very best in our budget. We are certainly not disappointed - they perform as described: excellent optics with the ED glass; compact and light-weight size; perfect color rendition and great light gathering capabilities. They appear well-made and are perfect for our intended use. I would recommend these binoculars to my family and friends!

After 2 years and 3 months of gentle, occasional use, one eyepiece began spinning freely rather than remaining where the user sets it. Celestron does not stock replacement eyepieces for these binoculars, so they are now useless. Had they lasted at least 5 years, I would have rated them excellent.

For geology field work I had bulky Porro-prism 12x50 binoculars; I needed something more compact, with a sharper vision... but brands like Zeiss, Swarovski, etc. were too expensive. Animal watchers told me: 7x magnification, not higher, it's more stable when looking at something; besides, with a 7x42 mm, it's 1/3 more brightness than with a 10x42 ! important when watching wildlife with low light. So I went for the Celestron (good reputation among starwatchers) 7x42 Nature DX ED model. The DX ED model seemed to optically better than the DX, for a slightly higher cost. When I looked for the first time through my new binoculars, compared to my old 12x50, it was like having gone through a cataract surgery !!! Such a bright vision, no gray haze, and sharper details than with many other binoculars with higher magnification. The quick adjusting system for people wearing glasses is great; I don't wear optical glasses, but often glacier sunglasses; with these binoculars, I don't need to take off my glacier sunglasses.Sharpness: absolutely great ! I even could see, 13.8 miles away from my home (and 7'300 ft higher), the Peak Walk narrow pedestrian suspension bridge between two peaks (@ Glacier3000, Swiss Alps), that I could not see with my old binoculars. Tell about great sharpness !!! For comparison, 13.8 miles, it's about 73'800 ft, more than the flight altitude of the spy-plane Lookheed U-2 !!.....
I was interested in a pair of binoculars after spending more time walking nature trails in my neighborhood and larger community. We normally spot some birds, deer, or other animals on the route and wanted better views. More recently too I had the opportunity to spend a week at the beach and brought them along to do some bird and plane spotting from the balcony. The bins performed admirably in both situations. The modest size and weight reduced fatigue while glassing for extended lengths of time. The good field of view helped with acquiring coastal birds and aircraft in flight. The image quality is good and is free of any unusual color hues or artifacts that would detract from the overall image. The feel in hand is good with all adjustment points functioning smoothly ... MoreI was interested in a pair of binoculars after spending more time walking nature trails in my neighborhood and larger community. The other features like ED glass and fog proof/water proof weren't immediately noticeable but it's nice to know they are part of the package.I would recommend these to a potential buyer.
As my first set of binoculars, this has met all of my expectations. I find this set to feel very sturdy in my hands without a sense of fragility while adjusting the diopter, eye cups or to the distance I'm viewing. My husband and I both wear glasses and have no issue with the eye pieces or even adjusting quickly between users. It is light enough to carry around on my walks. I do notice that the image is not as crisp at the edges of my view which may be my inexperience or the price point quality. I would easily recommend this pair for someone starting out.
I bought these binoculars as I just started getting into birding and wanted a nice intro pair. I did a ton of research and these came out on the top of most lists in the ~$150 category. The ED glass makes these even better than the original DX. They are so much better than my old pair, are comfortable in the hand. The one thing to note is that the neck strap these come with is super low quality, I'd consider the Nikon or another strap since this one is not padded and is uncomfortable for long periods of time. They definitely put the money into the binocs rather than the accessories. Recommended for beginners and those on a budget alike!
Thanks to B&H Photo for safely packaging a wonderful pair of binoculars for a Christmas present and having them delivered before Christmas. After everyone else ooohed and awed over the views from the binoculars, I had a chance to look through them. They were awesome. The focus was quick. The color of the birds were fantastic, and so on!!!Oooh, the most important item, My wife Loved the binoculars.Lastly, would I buy from B&H Photo, again, ... definitely because their item descriptions are accurate, they do what they say, and ... They will see my name on several more orders over the next few years.Sincerely, ...
I did a lot of researching for some binoculars that I could use for hunting. Vortex, Bushnell, Nikon, Athlon and Leopold to name a few, for about $250.I finally settled on the Celestron 8X42 DX ED and man I don't regret that one bit!I tried these binos in low light and it work great! and even better in daylight!I could see the smallest details in the nature and I how bright and sharp the image gets! ED glass sure is awesome :)The focus wheel is really good and easy to get the clear and crisp focus.Lens caps are nice and don't get in the way of the lens when hanging down.Neck strap is the only con I can think of. But they must be sacrificing that and using better glass instead. The carrying pouch is meh, I would like hard case/shell but hey, it works. It feels ... MoreI did a lot of researching for some binoculars that I could use for hunting. Buy this and you won't regret it!
I've owned these binoculars little over a month and I love them! With the clear wide field of view, I am able to find birds quickly and with ease. Images are very crisp and clear. I especially like the fact that I can easily focus on images that are very close in range. I have been missing out seeing birds up close at our feeders until now!! Also, thanks B and H for making it easy for me to find the right binoculars for my needs. I exchanged my first choice and it went smoothly and quickly with no hassles. B and H prices were also very competitive, but with the ease of my exchange, it put B and H way ahead of anybody else. My wife and I will use B and H in the future for all our optic and photography up grades! Thanks again!!
