Pros: The celestron starsense explorer is very good, and very easy to use to find any target in the night sky. The telescope itself is big but not too heavy, setting it up takes minutes. Very nice build quality and was easy to collimate.Cons: The red dot finder I found a bit awkward to use due to its position but once you have the starsense aligned you only have to use it once.

Since I posted that review, I had feedback from Celestron, as follows:Thank you for your notes about the lack of displayed Starsense targets near Dobson's Hole.This has initiated discussions about this with Product Development and they will be contacting the Starsense Explorer app developer, Simulation Curriculum, about ways to have more near-zenith targets appear in the app's lists.I am pleased that your customer interaction with us has initiated improvements in our product. I have been doing Astronomy for 2yrs & Astrophotography for about 1yr. I wanted to get a Dobsonian Telescope to do more visual and being new to this hobby I'm still learning where everything is at. That is why I went with this Celestron StarSense Explorer 10" Dob. It is so awesome, easy to use and allowing me to see objects like never before. I have even used in my Social Media lives to give awesome live views of the moon.
First, during the ground alignment, use the camera function within the app; not the regular phone camera.Second, the app can guide you to any obhect found it its Tonight list, unless the object is at or above 70 degrees altitude. Then the object disappears from the list. So within a 40 degree wide circle directly overhead near the zenith, you're on your own for finding anything.Of course, this is the darkest area of the sky with the least amount of atmosphere to look through, but with the supplied 25mm eyepiece, the field of view is only about 2/3 of a degree. So unless the object is bright enough to see with the naked eye, using the red dot finder to aim the scope, you're out of luck in this area.Attached is a screenshot from Stellarium with notes ... I’ve followed the instructions to the letter, the first time I used it it kept stating telescope position not found, movement detected, it was perfectly still . Frustrating
This is an awesome telescope. I assume it's fairly short for a 10" making it quite portable. Quality optics. The key is to do your alignments far enough away. I do my alignments at about a quarter mile or further away and everything I search for is in the eyepiece. Do your alignments close and nothing is in the eyepiece. I love the star sense! But this telescope is great even when not using star sense.

It's a great beginner learning tool, but it's also geared towards experienced amateurs as well. I called Celestron to ask if they sold any of the Starsense equipment/app separately. They responded with a firm No. They are guarding this tech, but will be providing a "sold separately" version of this in the future. Fantastic views and a huge upgrade to go from 5" to 10". I can literally carry both pieces at the same time, one in each hand (although not recommended...I'm a big guy and used to carrying heavy items). Not that I will make a habit of that, but the point is, this scope can be transported very easily. Had shipping box damage, but after collimation, all is good. Everything so far, from the moon to planets is incredible compared to the 5". I have NO buyer's remorse. Can't wait to take this to dark skies and see what deep space looks like.
