I was given this parfum from an admirer when I was 18 years old. I am now close to 80 and it is still my favorite parfum. Spray forms though are awful. THIS is the real thing. Buy this one only -the ORIGINAL parfum! Dab it on your pulse points. Christmas shopping has started early yet I still have hopes that my local Macy's will carry this for the holidays (disgraceful that it is so hard to get at Macy's here on the Big Island of Hawaii...used not to be this way). You waste your money with the sprays. The soap is very worth it also....pure luxury yet it looks like Macy's doesn't have it! The soap lasts a very long time still I'd like to pick up another bar and I hate having anything shipped. Where is the 1/4 oz size? I will never understand the hype about this perfume. They are lying to you. It smells quite awful. Lol This scent is the epitome of a "grandma", "old lady" perfume. (If you're a Gen X-er like me, than you remember those types of scents quite well. Lol That era was before the perfume game had evolved into what it has become today.) This is strong, quite musky, and smells like a very expired fragrance. Add in chemicals, a hint of stink weed and molded citrus. I like strong scents typically. G.A. Sí Intense is my favorite, just for reference. It's strong, but sweet and enticing. It's strong but pleasant. Chanel N°5 is strong, but repelling. (Very much like a bug repellent). The signature aldehyde opening is extremely fresh and soapy, and the opening citruses further carry out that zesty freshness. I think it depends on what you smell when it dries down, and where you apply it on the skin/clothes. It feels like the original, but much lighter and more airy. Because of that airiness, though, it feels like it's fleeting quickly. Performance is to be expected for this EDT, but slightly lacking in projection: longevity is around 3 hours on the skin, and sillage is moderate for the first hour, then starts to become a skin scent after that. Modern, effervescent, clean - it's the perfume you wear for fresh out of the shower, or anytime during the day - maybe even a bridal scent. Since it's so light, it wouldn't make much of an impact during the evenings, unless you wore it bed. It is important to understand, however, that since this is a "l'eau" composition, it's not meant to be heavy or long-lasting, so do keep that in mind when sampling. However, it does still retain some of that EDP DNA, so you won't be missing out on too much if you were to get this over the original. If you are a fan of the EDP and want something lighter, or you really enjoy citrus aldehydes, I recommend it.

This will be my go to perfume for ages now!!

Beautiful, timeless, light and soft

My husband attempted to purchase this for me for Christmas, but was sold the original No 5, not the L'eau No 5. I gave him a sample of it to bring with him and the salesperson at Macy's told him it didn't exist in the Eau de Toilette which is obviously not the case. We returned it, and I ordered this on line. The fragrance is my new favorite. The original No 5 is strong and even though I wanted to wear it (because it reminded me of my mother), I just couldn't get past the strong scent. THIS is perfect. It has all the good of the original scent but so much lighter. I am in love! This will be my new signature fragrance going forward for a while. If you like the original No 5, but find it too strong, give this a try. I highly recommend.

Each level is well balanced, starting with the bergamot and ylang-ylang combination carrying over the notes of vanilla and sandalwood. There's more to it than these ingredients but the strength of it lies in each note being so well combined that it should be used as a lesson in how to produce perfume. Particularly as in the last decade, the scents have become somewhat acidic with weird burned sugar that never softens. I have tricked a few young women into trying No.5 and they're always surprised when I tell them what it is. I just wish the price was a little more reasonable. Smells amazing! for 2 seconds.

I am so disappointed!! I actually bought this because of the tear-out sample in a magazine! I loved it and was excited to get it right before my anniversary. It was not very alluring when the scent wore off before I finished getting dressed for the evening. I have Chanel #5 (a nod to my Mother), Chance, and Coco Mademoiselle. All three are lovely but do not compare to the little strip of magazine scent that lasted in my purse for three days! I would have returned this but I had thrown away all the packaging at the hotel. SAD, SAD, SAD!! Question of the day? Why did I buy the biggest bottle available?? Also, very unhappy with the stuck-on cardboard sticker label and the glued-on little ribbon on the cap of the bottle. Subtle Mysterious Elegance

I was gifted Chanel No. 5, by a Secret Admirer, when I was 15 years old. I went from the powdery, youthful, Love’s Baby Soft, to the incredibly complex Chanel No. 5, on that day. I’ve worn nothing else for the past 44 years. As though it was made exclusively for me, this iconic fragrance is different on every woman who wears it. The price has increased exponentially, over the years, which is very disappointing. Chanel is no longer available at my local pharmacy’s fragrance counter, and must be mail-ordered. Many items are difficult to locate: Lotion, Soap, Deodorant, and you no longer see Powder. And, as another reviewer mentioned, Sprays are wasteful. I ordered the 3.4 ounce Chanel No. 5 L'eau EDP Spray and paid the standard price of $146.00. I received a bottle that wasn't "up to par", as the beautiful cap, which only adds to the classic look of the bottle, just falls off when I remove it from the top. Seems the plastic "stopper" that is normally inside the cap was missing, which meant the cap would not "click" when placed on top of bottle to close it, but was and is loose and will not stay on the bottle as it should. I'LL JUST PURCHASE THIS ITEM FROM MACY'S or NORDSTROMS IN FUTURE, AS I NORMALLY HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY. From a humble thankful woman: my mother used to take me to fundraising events she participated when I was a kid a million years ago. There were always beautiful, well dressed rich women in those events, needless to say, we belonged to the not so fortunate, but I never complain because I was happy with what the little bit I was blessed with. She said Chanel No. 5 honey, and I remember she also said is like the Rolex of Parfum (like I knew what in the world was a Rolex). Anyways, to make this story shorter I did my kid investigation and thought: oh well that goes to the list of things I will never own, impossible!!
