A Mess From Day 1!!!

This PopTop microwaveable popcorn maker NEVER worked for me and I tried it MULTIPLE times. The way it is made (or at least the one I received) is flawed. In order for this to work, all folds must close in such a way that each angle knows what it should be doing and then should stay at a specific level. When I pulled it out of the box, one fold already dipped/hung significantly lower than the others. So not only is it nearly impossible to get all of the angles to fold at the same time & in the right direction, but if they don't hold their place then it's a disaster. Time after time (even different family members tried it), the popcorn kernels shoot out of the intentional hole/space in the center of maker (open for steam release I assume). As our microwave is built in and at eye level (unwise to begin with but I didn't build this house!), finding the kernels was a pain. AND it burnt the popcorn even though someone was always next to the microwave and it was set at fewer minutes than recommended. After the 3rd attempt, into the trash it went. Buy something different. This certainly was a big thumbs down for us!!

This is a really great purchase because it's like a mini cinema at home. The no oil required feature is a game-changer, making it healthier and easier to use. The even heating and quick popping makes for a perfect batch every time. Its compact size is the cherry on top, fitting anywhere in the kitchen. Now, every movie night feels like an authentic theater experience!

I love this popper. It is so convenient and easy to use! Plus, no oil needed (though you can certainly add some buttery goodness salt if you desire afterwards!). I like that I can make fresh batches of popcorn whenever I want, and for whatever single or family serving size needed. It's been consistent to pop the majority of kernels with no burning. When popping, some kernels do fly out of the popper, startled me at first but is not a concern. I would definitely recommend this. I was gifted this product for my honest review.

Fun design!
23 November 2020

Love this fun design for easy air popped popcorn in the microwave! Do not be intimidated by the flaps, they are easily folded into the proper configuration. There are easy to follow instructions on how to fold the flaps down with the popper bowl. There is also a video produced by Chef'n on this product page. The first time I used it, I put in four tablespoons of popcorn. The flaps did open during the popping process. A total of ten kernels fell out of the bowl, five popped and five unpopped, not a big deal to clean up out of the microwave. The next time, I used three tablespoons of popcorn and only had two popped kernels to clean up. This is much easier, faster, than washing up a pot and lid. I love that the popping bowl gets warmed up in the microwave. It remains warm and keeps the popped corn warm while you are enjoying it. A plus in my book as I prefer warm popcorn to cold. In addition to the easy to follow illustrations on folding the flaps, the popcorn bowl also came with recipes for flavoring the popcorn for increased enjoyment. We followed the directions to the letter and did not have any issues with burnt kernels. We did have a few old maid/unpopped kernels in each batch. No more than when using any other method. Clean up is a snap as this as this popper is dishwasher safe. It also cleans up easily when washed by hand. I highly recommend this fun and functional popcorn popper! Genius replacement for an air popper
9 December 2020

I had never seen anything like this but now can't imagine making popcorn without it. Planning to get rid of our air popper and just use this. It's quieter than the air popper but still provides the same benefits of the air popper (avoid microwave popcorn bag chemicals; low-fat option - although let's be honest I add melted butter anyway). This takes up less storage space than my air popper which is also a plus. It's easy to use, what a cute idea. I was provided with this product at no charge in exchange for my honest review.

Great popcorn, safe, and easy to use
27 February 2018

I just bought a second one of these to give as a gift. I've had my first popper for a few years now and I'm not sure I understand the negative reviews about it. I've found mine makes great popcorn and is super easy to use. My kids absolutely love making popcorn with this, and especially love watching it "pop" open in the microwave. It's silicone so it's safe (and so much healthier than the store bought popcorn bags, which is the main reason I own one). A few kernels of popcorn do shoot out while popping (less than 5) but I don't find that to be a big deal. And yes, it does get hot in the microwave, but the tabs on the side cool off quickly enough to be able to remove the popper from the microwave. I serve the popcorn straight from the popper, so I just put a towel around the hot bowl so my little ones are protected from the heat (the heat won't burn you, but it is hot. You could alternately just put the popcorn in a serving dish if you were worried).

LOVE IT
5 November 2020

I don't usually write reviews but I was looking this up to send a link to a coworker and saw it lacked multiple reviews. I LOVE IT. There is a trial period as each microwave is different (and ages differently) but once you figure out your microwave and the other variables you are good to go. It's fast, convenient, and healthy!!!. I don't have the mess that the previous reviewer mentioned. Ok every now and then a stray kernel makes it's great escape but that happens with all popcorn cooking methods. It does't have to take up the space of an air popper (although you would need multiple batches for large families). I love knowing I'm not eating all the chemicals that are in processed packages. The topping choices are unlimited.Again I've had this for YEARS and it's ... MoreI don't usually write reviews but I was looking this up to send a link to a coworker and saw it lacked multiple reviews. Not free for me, so here's an honest review
6 June 2021

So if you didn't get this popcorn popper for free like most of the 5-star reviewers, then you definitely paid too much, because it's not even worth the price of free. Even if I'd gotten it free, I still don't think I'd use it again. The flaps are annoying, as they have to be closed in a specific order or the popper won't close. Even then, there is an open space in the center where the kernels popped OUT of the popper, so I had about 5 or 6 loose kernels bouncing around inside my microwave while I tried to pop the rest of the corn. When it was about 1/3 through the popping cycle the flaps flew open! The popcorn had already popped to the point where there was a layer on top of the raw kernels keeping them from flying out, but it seemed very counter-intuitive. The popcorn had already popped to the point where there was a layer on top of the raw kernels keeping them from flying out, but it seemed very counter-intuitive. When it was done, the kernels were small and sad, and not at all like the same popping corn from my other popper. Like there wasn't enough pressure built up inside the kernel to make it pop properly? I guess it probably had something to do with the lack of heat retention from the open popper. WORST of all was the taste of the popcorn when it was done! It had a chemical aftertaste like the silicone somehow transferred a petroleum flavor to the popped corn. I know that's not supposed to be possible, and I washed it well before using it, so I don't know what happened. All I know is that this is quite an inferior product compared to some others on the market (including that silicone-looking bucket with a lid, that in retrospect works pretty well). I will be sending this back without a second chance. I was very disappointed, as the design looked cool and I wanted to like it, but the performance just wasn't there. Not by a mile.

Quick, Easy, w/Delicious Popcorn Result
25 December 2020

This popper works so well I bought one for our home and one for our 2nd home. In just over 2 minutes I have an ideal portion of popcorn for my popcorn-loving taste. Crispy, popped completely, and then so easy to clean. After years of stovetop popping, this gem has saved time and increased our popcorn enjoyment. The corn never tasted better.PS: the only small problem is that occasionally a hot kernel or two of unopposed corn escapes through the opening in the top. I simply place an opened napkin over the top of the popper and the problem was solved. And that then provided me with a napkin to use whenever I add a topping to the fluffy popped corn. All good.

Way Better Than Microwave Popcorn!
6 December 2020

This popcorn popper bowl is awesome! I was nervous that it was going to make a mess in my microwave, but it didn't at all and was SO easy to use. The box shows you exactly how to add kernels and tuck the flaps in for cooking. It cooked perfectly after a few minutes in the microwave and has little tabs on the sides for you to hold when taking your bowl out of the microwave. I eat popcorn as a snack multiple times a week so I love that this is so easy to use and a healthier option over bagged microwave popcorn covered in butter. I would recommend this product to a friend and would definitely buy this as a gift for a friend. I was gifted this product in exchange for an honest review.
