I've only had Mojo 2 for a few days but wow, it can be amazing. For reference I'm comparing to a Bifrost 2/64 DAC and Jotunheim 2 headphone amp driving brand new Meze Empyrium 2 headphones. Mojo 2 with the right input source competes easily with Bifrost 2/64. They are both excellent, but different. Mojo 2 has a much tighter, cleaner bass, smoother treble and a better soundstage. I owned an original Chord Mojo from around 2020. Although the overall sound from this was very good I always felt its midrange and treble to be slightly sterile and a touch harsh. I felt this to be the case with a number of different headphones eg Beyers, Sennheisers, Grados and Sonys.On purchasing the Mojo 2 this small DAC is in a completely different league. The midrange and treble harshness has completely gone and the overall sound quality is now in the excellent catagory with a liquid midrange and treble and a phenomenally agile ,deep and tight bass. It is certainly one of the best DACs up to Ā£1000 in my opinion and at around Ā£400 a complete bargain for the sound quality that is on offer. Well to done Rob Watts who designed this. Hopefully he'll be working on the next version the Mojo 3 as we speak. Look forward to hearing that sometime in the near future.

After reading a lot of good reviews, I decided to invest in this DAC and was expecting nothing short of miracle in terms of improvement in sound quality. However I was a bit disappointed , when I found the sound quality similar to what my Dell laptop is capable of. .In fact the staging of the sound coming from my laptop seems to be better. Having said that, it don't mean this DAC is bad sounding. The sound from this DAC is very clean and resolving, The instrument separation is great. Also you can fine tune the sound using the inbuild equalizer. However I did not find the crossfading feature to be very effective. For the price may be I was expecting a bit more from this DAC. I obtained the Mojo 2, both as an OTG player and as a DAC replacement for the DAC in my already excellent chain that included Roon (out of a dedicated Macbook Air, so admittedly that is not the best) connected by hardwired home network to a Sonore OpticalRendu streaming via USB into Schiitās Yggdrasil A2 (OG) DAC, which in turn was connected to a Topping A90D amp, and my listening gear for the purpose of this review was a HIFIMAN Arya headphone and (for IEMs) the 65Audio U12T and Empire Ears Legend X. I will be traveling extensively in the coming months and cannot take the Yggdrasil with me, hence the purchase of the Mojo 2. In this setup, Mojo 2 has moderately wide and deep soundstage ā a bit outside the headāwith clear, pinpoint imaging. Bass impact and texture was also good, as was detail retrieval in the higher registers. Vocals were a bit forward but smooth/musical. Yggy OG was, however, better on all fronts, showing much more realism in the stage and imaging, much greater detail retrieval in the treble region, bass texture- better on every front.Then I substituted the OpticalRendu streamer with the excellent Hiby R8 Digital Audio Player (which uses dual AKM4497 DACs) streaming into Mojo 2 via USB (so bypassing the amp section of R8) using the R8ās USB-C digital out to USB in on the Mojo 2 side. Please see Alex Twisterās excellent review on the R8, which has been available for about 3 years, here. In this setup, it was ā surprisinglyāmuch more difficult to differentiate Mojo 2 from the Yggy OG. Both now were excellent on every component of timbre and technicalities. Headstage was very holographic and stage size expanded a bit. Imaging accuracy was about the same but detail retrieval improved. Donāt get me wrong, the Yggy was still better across the board but not by much (Yggy stage size and note weight was still more, timbre was yet more realistic) but it should be as it costs > $2500. I did not appreciate any difference between micro-USB vs USB-C input ports.Removing the A90D from the chain, and substituting the above-mentioned IEMs for the Arya, connected directly to the Mojo 2ās 3.5 mm output ports, Mojo 2 was even more dynamic, with a similar timbre, but with an even greater level of liveliness and āfunā across all frequencies with my IEMs, staging and imaging was as good as Iāve ever heard it on each of them, and significantly more expansive and dynamic than when listening to those IEMs directly from the A90D i.e. from its 3.5 mm SE outputs.Next, I streamed Roon from a 2021 Bluesound Node, connected to Mojo 2 via a Toslink cable. Via the Toslink connection, detail retrieval, bass texture, stage and imaging were less precise than via the other connections. In this instance also, I listened to Mojo 2 via the above-mentioned IEMs directly out its 3.5 mm outputs.I next substituted iPhone as a source, streaming Roon ARC to Mojo 2 connected by the $20 Cayin Lightning to USB CS-L2C cable (no white noise problem there after many hours of listening- works just fine), again listening to the same IEMs via the Mojo 2ās SE 3.5 mm output ports. I continued to find the Mojo 2 delivered excellent sound quality: timbre was very similar to that described above when streaming from the R8, although stage and imaging were less deep and wide, and bass texture/detail retrieval across the FR was also slightly less.My main finding overall is that the Mojo 2 scales up very well to better quality sources, and with an excellent source competes very well against more expensive DACs. I found the USB input was superior to Toslink, especially in terms of technicalities, but the source connected via the USB was itself a more significant factor in terms of sound quality than I would have anticipated. I do not have a source with Coax digital output so cannot comment on SQ with coax input. I definitely recommend Mojo 2 and suggest connecting to it the highest quality source to which you have access and is practical, given the context in which you plan to use it. It will definitely reward you if you do!
This DAC + Amplifier is the first product I have purchased from the famed Chord Electronics group. I always found their design minimal yet quirky. Unboxing and using Mojo2 for the first few days felt like I was trying something absolutely different entirely. They have gone for a more intuitive UX, with 4 clickable buttons with lights guiding you in your endeavours. It definitely takes a user sometime to catch up with the modes and what the lights mean, but, once you're set, it feels very intuitive and easy-to-use.Besides the UX the sound quality, depth, detail and soundtsgake are all brilliant for the size and price of the product. It definitely punches above it weight. Go for it if you want to pair it with a good pair of IEMs. You won't be disappointed.
I wanted to write this review after using the Mojo2 for a shorter time, but then something happened. I had to be sure that it wasnāt a one off bad experience so I needed time to investigate into the matter. My Mojo2 is often giving me a sudden burst of white noise. Thankfully Iām not fond of higher volumes, because the noise could damage my ears. Upon searching the internet I did come across several comments about this white noise issue on Mojo2. The information available on the internet says itās because of faulty USB driver. Thereās also video from Mr Chibs on YouTube about this issue. His issue got resolved with upgraded OTG cables, but unfortunately mine didnāt. When Mojo 2 was launched last year, I resisted as much as I could because of the significant investment, but finally gave in after reading a review by a consumer saying that even if you have an Astell & Kern DAP, the Mojo 2 would make it sound better. There it is, I thought, and gave in. The product itself is a thing of quirky beauty, solid and smooth. This entire last week I have been listening to my music collection and AB testing with and without the DAC using all the headphones and IEMs I have. I used DT770 Pro, the HD599, ATH-R70x, Meze 99, Etymotic ER2, 7HZ Legato, iBasso IT00. Played hi res FLAC files on a good DAP. For the life of me, I can't figure out any difference between the sound. Yes, the hungry headphones do get louder, but that is about it. I am not trying to be contrarian, I desperately want it to do something - since I spent my own money on this, and quite a lot of it. Maybe my ears are not audiophile enough, or maybe I find stockholm syndrome somewhere along the way, but right now, I have gone back to feeding headphones directly throgh the DAP. Woe is me.

I've a pretty good main hifi system that is built around the Huge TT2 and always felt that there was something very real about its sound, as an ex musician i felt I could hear the shape of notes, their blend as they rise and fall and the way musicians together shape their timing and placement of tone on top of the notes.But i had t realised the Mojo 2 was so close in technology and design to the bigger systems and as soon as i heard it i bought one. Like so many other great systems and components, it draws so much from the music it is unforgiving of recordings that have been "remastered" and lowered but depth, it's also so balanced that you quickly sit there realising that you can hear cheap studios or poor microphones, so be prepared for some songs you think you know losing something. Hardly the Mojos fault, it's the curse of accurate and detailed systems but Ive now learned to hear music as played and also how it was recorded which brings its own pleasure and the Mojo 2 is worth every penny.
Having bought some Sennheiser HD800S headphones from Richer Sounds I was looking for a portable unit so that I could use the headphones away from home. I don't intend to use them on the move as the headphones aren't suitable for that, just the ability to use them in another location. I tried a couple of portable players but they struggled to drive the headphones. I had read good reviews of the Mojo 2 working with the HD800S so I arranged a demo in-store with my headphones and was impressed. The push button interface takes a bit of getting used to, but it's not too difficult and I say that as someone who's been retired for 6 years. Another key point in the purchase decision was the Richer Sounds 6-year guarantee. I wouldn't want to spend this amount of money on a portable device with no cover after the first year. I now just need to get a shorter headphone cable made up for using with the Mojo 2 as the one supplied by Sennheiser is 3 metres long.

I highly recommend Richer Sounds.With respect to the Chord MOJO 2 I cannot understand anybody who says that it is poorly constructed or over priced. Both are complete and utter nonsense statements. The MOJO 2 is tiny but has a nice weight to it. The MOJO 2 is perfect for mobility and is beautifully made. The different colour spheres menu options is the icing on the cake. There doesnāt seem like there is anything this box of tricks cannot do. Iāve read that cross-feeds is the way to go for that speaker separation experience but for now, Iām happy with out of the box standard settings.From the more important sound perspective all I can say, using the standard settings is that it sounds amazing. I now have a high-quality sounding mobile hi-fi system via my Samsung S23 Ultra, Grado RS2ās, MOJO 2 via the app USB Audio Player (worth Ā£6.99) logged in to Quobuz.Iām just a newbie in all this but would I recommend:Richer Sounds ā absolutelyChord MOJO 2 ā absolutelyMy experience has been seamless and I now have a big smile on my face as I go from Billy Ellish, Adele, Ed Sheeran, thumping FISHER and where I live mostly the 80s.
