I have used many iPhones in the past and then switched to Samsung to try Android out. I liked Android but didn't like how there was an extra Samsung OS level over it. I wanted to try a pure android phone and the Pixel 8 Pro did not disappoint. Do yourself a favour and get this phone right away!

As a preface, this is my fifth Google Pixel. I am clearly loyal to the ecosystem. My last phone was a Pixel 6 and I really liked it. Before that I had a 5, a 3 and a 1.Was stoked to get the new 8 Pro, and overall the device is great. However, after just 24 hours of gentle use, really only going in and out of a pant pocket, the screen has scratched up, that out side by side with my pixel 6, the 8 Pro looks worse. Clearly a manufacturing defect, or a downright product defect. Now, I have never used a screen protector. I prefer a nude phone, and while I have had minor scratches and marks here and there in the past on my other phones, they were nothing like this...nothing this obvious.I would avoid this phone for that reason. The phone is slick, well-made and the camera system rocks. But I have not so far experienced any big step up from the Pixel 7 Pro I upgraded from. Indeed, to my considerable surprise, migrating over from my old Pixel 7 Pro to my new Pixel 8 Pro turned out to be quite painful, with few userid and passwords crossed over (requiring hours of authentication and resetting of accounts to get the apps to work again) and Whatsapp lost 12 days´ of messages. I should have backed everything up before I made the transfer, but I (wrongly) assumed it would be an easy and painless switch.

I really wanted to like this phone. The camera is amazing however, that's where it stops. Facial recognition for unlocking rarely works, which then presents the fingerprint to unlock, which rarely works. This means a PIN is needed to unlock. Doing this each time to unlock the phone is time consuming and quote frankly, maddening. Overall processing speed is an issue: when you back out of an app, the app remains on the screen in minimized format for a couple seconds which clearly reflects the phone is struggling. I used the Pixel 8 Pro for 11 solid days and put it through the usual daily grind. In the end, I returned it as I cannot justify the price point despite the camera. I went back to my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is 2 years old, and it absolutely blew the Pixel 8 Pro out of the water in terms of speed and responsiveness. My take on this phone is the Tensor chip just isn't ready for the big time yet. Even Google itself admits it wasn't built for speed and I get that however, it has to be better in order to justify the price point.
I've been a pixel owner for years. You can't fault the pure android experience you get from a pixel phone. Great value for money too however, the watch is not worth it for me. It might for you though.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is an excellent phone where most of the issues in the previous generation device seem to have been fixed. The fingerprint scanner, though a bit slow compared to the competition, works properly about 99% of the time. The battery life seems great too. I've not noticed any (over) heating issues in the past one month. The watch is good too. The battery life could be better though.
I purchased this phone 2 weeks ago after being told that It's one of best phones in 2023, after using it for few days I have noticed a slight decreasing in performance, at the beginning I thought It's a normal thing where the device has to adapt to the changes/updates.After a week of using I have experienced a mass performance decrease in the device that It's super laggy and glitchy on whichever app I want to use. Stutter Issue While Scrolling is extremely irritating and I do not enjoy having this phone anymoreI do not recommend this phone to anyone
If you are planning to get this phone at the full price, look elsewhere. its really not worth it. BUT, it is a good phone in general if you get a really good dealREASONS TO AVOID THIS PHONE- screen didn't seem as good or nice as other displays i've seen. other than brightness outdoors, it felt it just wasn't as clean as others- finger print is horrible. Not only is it not as good as samsungs, it BLINDS you at night. face unlock doesn't work in the dark either.- big and heavy. other phones are similar, but this really feels top heavy.- slow performance. it felt laggy all day. scrolling was stuttering, and overall, did not feel like a expensive phone when using it.- you'll realize a lot of decent features are behind paywalls, like magic edits of photos. Then photo back ups need subscription too. Then to edit photos with magic editor requires google one, and google storage backup subscriptions... like... what?REASONS TO BUY PHONE- you are outdoors a lot, and need a bright display so it can be visible out doors- you have google subscriptions- you display apple, and samsung, so this is really your only other choice around here.- you need an android phone with a long update lifetime. This phone will get 7 years of security updates and numerous OS updates. Not on par with Apple iPhones, but better than any other android phone on the market in Canada right now. Samsung is 5 years of security updates.
