The M4 Sherman was the main American medium tank from the Second World War.Produced from 1942-1945, it became the most recognizable American tank. Duringthe war it was dramatically developed. It was equipped with a 75mm cannon. Theammunition and the flammable engine initially made the Shermans an easy targetfor the heavier German tanks. Only after the construction was refined, theroles could be reversed. A total of approximately 49,000 of all versions ofthe Sherman were produced. The tank was used by, among others, the armies ofthe USA, Great Britain, Poland, France and the USSR. It had a reputation as areliable, easy-to-manufacture and well-armed tank.
