I bought a pack maybe 1.5-2 years ago now, I love switching the colors up on sketches to suit color vibes or contrast more. Some of them have softer/ more waxy lead then others. I prefer the softer ones! But that’s personal preference. They erase MOSTLY some of them better than others tho! They don’t go away 100% so keep that in mind. They work wonderfully with rubber and kneeded erasers.

Been using these since I could draw! ❤️

This was the very first in-depth drawing I had completed with the prismacolor pencils only! I have never loved a piece so much with how well everything blended, I could still not be happier with the result. Everyone should buy prismacolor pencils if you’re into colored pencil medium! I 1000% recommend these to any beginning or advanced artist out there. Hands down the top brand in my opinion! ❤️

I picked these up for use in my sketchbook, as I had seen many of my favourite Youtube artists use them and was curious as to how they compared to coloured mechanical pencil lead (which is what I normally use). These feel very much like using a Laurentian pencil crayon, if anyone remembers those days. The formula is reasonably hard while also giving a smooth consistency while in use. They're not as pigmented as Prismacolor's other Premier supplies, I'd say probably on par with Crayola, so I don't think I'd use them for actual colouring but they work great for sketching. They don't erase cleanly but do well enough for unfinished work. I normally use a soft eraser which doesn't work very well on these at all, but the eraser on the end of each does a decent job. I'll probably pick up a harder eraser for erasing the full page post-line-art. They handle the electric sharpener well and I haven't had issue with the leads breaking and falling out during sharpening.Something of note is that the white is very finicky. It doesn't layer over ink, other pencils of the same brand, other pencils of different brands, watercolor, or even alcohol marker at all. It does, however, work very nicely on toned paper, so that's what I'll be using it for.(I will say that the pack I received was missing a pencil, purple, and when I reached out to Staples about the issue their customer service team took care of everything right away. Not sure if this was a one-pack problem or a larger issue, so be sure to count your pencils.)So all in all, four stars for being great pencils and fun to use but missing a star for not being fully erasable, which is their purpose.

Got the 24 pack because there were more pinks in it but you will have more greens and browns that you know what to do with lol (good for under sketches in paintings). Really just youtube these for a full review, they basically cover everything. I used to be a regular graphite mechanical pencil user, so something I notice that are this basically never smudges or imprints on the opposite page when you draw on the flip side. Another difference is that you feel like your wasting the pencil when you sharpen it to get a point (get some sandpaper if you just want a point to it without sharpening away more than you need). Big prisma wants you to buy their sharpener so you break the lead less often, but when I got mine I immediately baked my pencils (youtube how to do that ... MoreGot the 24 pack because there were more pinks in it but you will have more greens and browns that you know what to do with lol (good for under sketches in paintings). Big prisma wants you to buy their sharpener so you break the lead less often, but when I got mine I immediately baked my pencils (youtube how to do that safely) and put them in a padded with bubblewrap box, and as long as you have any NEW, SHARP, sharpener and don't use force while sharpening it will work. Basically treat these pencils as glass while handling and you'll never have that issue where the tips keep breaking. I do warn you it doesn't erase completely and most colored pencils erase just as much as these ones do. so you can just use whatever pencils you have and it will erase just as well if you want to save money : )

Great for Sketching
8 July 2022

These pencils are great for sketching portraits and are able to blend in with my color pencils. I hated how graphite made my colors look muddy and have visible harsh lines in my end result. With these they blend seamlessly without the lines looking harsh in the end. Here are a few examples of these sketches of my portraits using Col-erase pencils, with the end result used with Prismacolor premier color pencils.

No Quality Control
19 April 2022

I was hopeful about these pencils when I made my order. Some of my favorite artists rave about them. But, in my own experience, these are not worth what I paid. The Non-Photo Blue pencil was made of cheap brittle wood and had a stress fracture running through it. So when I attempted to sharpen it, it cracked all the way down the barrel then broke in half. I tried sharpening what was left but the crack ran down to the eraser so it's completely unusable. The Vermilion pencil was little better. Had a similar issue with the cheap wood of the barrel breaking as I sharpened it. Then the lead kept crumbling and breaking off in my sharpener. With all its issues, I lost over 2 inches of pencil before I could get a usable point. I'm well aware of the quality control issues ... MoreI was hopeful about these pencils when I made my order. With all its issues, I lost over 2 inches of pencil before I could get a usable point. I'm well aware of the quality control issues behind Prismacolor Pencils but this was ridiculous! I own a full set of Prismacolor Premier pencils along with the Verithins and I hand sharpened each pencil with minimal broken leads. But with the Col-Erase, I tried using 4 types of handheld sharpeners (with fresh blades) and even with the most gentle touch, these pencils fell apart. I had an open mind going into it, but the fact that both pencils were defective in different ways worries me that I'll receive another dud if I were to purchase these again. I was never able to use the NP Blue pencil before it broke apart so I can't give my opinion on how the product worked but I found the Vermilion pencil pleasant to use. It was just disappointing that half the pencil was gone before I got to try it out.

Not for "just coloring"
23 January 2020

I bought these to try with the "adult coloring book" pictures I color to relax. These pencils don't work for this. The 'leads' are hard from HB to 2B - making it difficult to get an even, smooth color over a large area. The darker colors do not erase well - they leave a shadow of color - nor do they blend well, laying color on top of color instead of blending. In addition, the color names are inconsistent with other Prisnacolor products, like the Premier colored pencils. Scarlett Red is more orange in these while Carmine Red is a puree deep red; this is opposite of the Premier pencils; I expected Indigo Blue to be very dark blue, it wasn't; Violet & Purple are also inconsistent with the Premier pencils; and so forth. These pencils are probably great for use with a ... MoreI bought these to try with the "adult coloring book" pictures I color to relax. I get better results with the Prismacolor Premier pencils & an eraser, which does remove some colors to some degree, depending on exact hue - darker colors erase less well than lighter ones - plus I can blend colors as I wish and get superior color coverage over large areas. It would be great to have a truly erasable, high quality colored pencil for general art use, but don't expect that to happen soon. I would recommend these to a friend for a specific use, just not general coloring.

Pencils very fragile and break when sharpening
27 July 2022

This is the first Prismacolor product I've used that was subpar. I had a difficult time sharpening the pencils straight out of the box without the wood splintering. One pencil (pictured) fractured completely in half and is useless. This will likely happen to more of them as they need further sharpening. I tried multiple sharpeners and was gentle. The wood is just too fragile.

Their Best Line of Color Pencils
24 December 2020

These are very unique pencils, the main and best attribute is the hardness of the lead. Most colored pencils are relatively weak and the tips break pretty easily, but that's just their nature. These on the other hand aren't prone to breakage, which makes them great for sketching, writing... just about anything you might want to do with a pencil. They are easier to erase than other colored pencils as well - that's why they include erasers. One of my favorite ways to use these pencils is actually along side my Copic markers, they really work wonderfully together. They also work well for under drawings, either sketching something out or using them to trace before you start painting. I would love to have more colors to choose from.

Weak color opacity and weak erasing
2 September 2021

Opened the pack to see some of the pencils covered in this yellow sawdust-looking kind of dirt, then i felt the erasers and they felt really hard (like old erasers do). i tested it out by erasing some pencil, it worked, but only erased about 80% of it. left that old pencil mark look. then sharpened 2 of em, colors dont seem that opaque, and it didnt erase completely. im afraid that if they are old, the lead might be cracked/brittle, guess ill find out later. not the best quality pencils, dont put down that much color and dont even erase completely. but if you dont mind, i guess that wont matter. but might as well just use pencil and ink or even regular color pencils and erasers. was a bit of a letdown because i was really excited about these for years. guess that's ... MoreOpened the pack to see some of the pencils covered in this yellow sawdust-looking kind of dirt, then i felt the erasers and they felt really hard (like old erasers do). i tested it out by erasing some pencil, it worked, but only erased about 80% of it. left that old pencil mark look. then sharpened 2 of em, colors dont seem that opaque, and it didnt erase completely. im afraid that if they are old, the lead might be cracked/brittle, guess ill find out later. not the best quality pencils, dont put down that much color and dont even erase completely. but if you dont mind, i guess that wont matter. but might as well just use pencil and ink or even regular color pencils and erasers. was a bit of a letdown because i was really excited about these for years. guess that's how long theyve been in storage lol. but thats better than them throwing it out i guess. try to look elsewhere.
