A solid family tent option, with some design flaws

Why not make the entire door a mesh window?- As is common for most tents with this design, the overhang over the door doesn't extend the dripline far enough to keep your tent floor totally dry during rain.- Don't take this tent out in severe conditions. It's taller and boxier, so no matter how well it's pitched, it's going to catch the wind more than an aerodynamic design.- Rather than 1 large tent wall pocket, I'd much prefer multiple smaller pockets spread out across the tent. That way, each kid can get their own that they can reach without stepping over others. Finally, Coleman, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE offer individual parts for sale! I shouldn't have to junk a tent because one pole snaps!

I purchased this tent for working on wildfires in Alaska, since the sun doesn´t set there, and that can make sleeping difficult sometimes. I spent 16 nights in it and had to set it up and take it down thrice, so I feel as if I´ve thoroughly tested this tent.PROS: Set up is actually quite easy, much easier than take-down, I thought. The poles slide nicely into housing on 4 corners of the tent, and you just start clipping tent material to said poles. The rainfly and windowpane covers are made of this black, rubbery material that blocks out light, but the tent body itself is not. Thus, unless the sun is shining directly overhead, you´re not going to notice much (if any) light reduction. I would usually head to bed at around 11PM, and the light level was such that you could read a book inside the tent without any eye strain. The notion that this tent will provide you with a dark environment is simply not true.Biggest con: this thing is *extremely* sensitive to wind. Like, it will bow over on itself in a 5mph breeze unless you thoroughly stake this sucker down with the guylines. I repeat, STAKE THE GUYLINES DOWN. Simply staking 4 corners of the tent is not enough. This wants to be a kite more than any other tent I have used.Overall, 3/10, would not recommend. Roomy, sure, but not a great piece of equipment.

I previously had purchased a Dicks house brand Quest family size tent that had ripped the first time taking it out with the family. My expectations for Coleman are much higher when it comes to quality. Im a pretty avid outdoorsy person but when it comes to large family size tents there aren't many options. We have the yearly family camping trip coming up and so I decided to set it up beforehand so I’m not caught off guard when we go. It was a little bit of a let down to be honest. I’m am not a fan of the whole pre attached poles it’s awkward and just not as easy to work. One of the tips on the attached side was already broken before even unrolling it and it’ doesn’t surprise me- this is is probably its biggest fault in design. I was able to get it set up by myself ... MoreI previously had purchased a Dicks house brand Quest family size tent that had ripped the first time taking it out with the family. I think it’s a fair value especially if you can get it on sale.

Doesn’t hold up to the weather
25 July 2022

I bought this in June for a 2 week camping trip across the states. So a lot of set up tear down. The first night we encountered rain was good we stayed dry for the most part just a little mist came in here and there under the flapping of the tarp. The second encounter of rain, the direction it was landing, hit directly on the door and water was pouring in. One of our camp mates was soaked by morning. Within a couple of days there was a big snagged in the door. There are a couple spots in the tarp that are thinning and look like they will soon be holes. One of the pole clips tore away from the tent. Idk who posted that it holds up in wind, but sadly it did not. By the end of the trip the poles started to buckle in the wind and the tie downs for the tarp tore apart. ... MoreI bought this in June for a 2 week camping trip across the states. We had a Field & Stream tent for ten years that held up to the same kind of use before it started to break down. I think we’ll be switching back to that or looking into another brand for sure. Especially since I messaged Coleman a couple weeks ago with no reply back. Definitely a disappointment

Great family camping tent
20 June 2023

this tent is a great option for small families or couples who like to sleep in, in the mornings. the Dark room technology works very well. Only the font of the tent lets in light due to the design of the fly around the door. I would recommend setting up the tent facing west if possible to keep the morning sun out. The fly seems a bit short above the door and there is no vestibule to store extra gear. The interior is large enough for a full size queen air mattress and the walls of the tent are vertical enough for a tall air mattress. Overall I would recommend this tent for motorcycle or car camping. Its far to heavy for hiking and with the vertical walls it doesn't preform well in winds. But if your camping in a campground or in the front country, this is a great tent.

Love everything about this tent - had borrowed from friends for the past few years and decided to finally buy my own. I foolishly didn’t look too carefully before buying assuming the tent was the same as the old version but with a new fly colour, only to discover THE ‘SWINGING DOOR’ (that’s supported by a pole) as been removed?!? Now the door is just a regular zipper door, without the ‘swinging open/closed’ capabilities! This was honestly the BEST feature of the original tent, and when camping with toddlers SO SO awesome to allow them easy access/exit while still keeping bugs out. I can’t believe they would remove this feature - now my toddler gets the zipper stuck basically every time he tries to go in or out. I was devastated they would remove the swinging door. ... MoreLove everything about this tent - had borrowed from friends for the past few years and decided to finally buy my own. We are a small Church. We purchased 20 other Coleman Tents that have a power cord zippered slot in the corner. We though when we ordered these 20 tents they were the same. They are not. These tents have all mosquito netting on the top portion of the tent walls AND they leak in water really bad EVEN WITH NO RAIN AND JUST DEW. The water drips from the canopy and right into tent since the top is all mosquito netting. This dripping wakes the kids up every morning at around 6 AM and their pillows and blankets get wet. We were really happy and are really happy with the original 20 we purchased. These last 20 came without a retail box or labeling just in a cardboard brown box and were shipped from Bangladesh, India. Unfortunately, When we opened the bag to build the tent in the late evening after reaching the site we were surprised to see that the tent was used, dirty and damaged. Not only was the product in shabby condition but it was torn at several places and the cover canopy of the tent was missing. From the place we were camping, there were no other stores for around 50 -60 miles , we did not have any option other than sleeping in the same tent , it was a horrible experience to spend a night with our 9 years old. It was cold and dewy and because of the pathetic condition of the tent we suffered all night. I felt deeply disappointed as my child and my wife had to suffer from the cold just because I trusted the company enough to not check the product before leaving. This is the first time I have come across such trouble from your company , so I would like to believe that this is a one time experience, and it's not a representation of the company's quality and service . Pictures added for reference.

Worst Coleman Ever

I gave it a 2 star because it does work. HOWEVER, there are only 4 anchor points. If it's truly meant to withstand crazy winds, there needs to be more. Not to mention how poorly the door is designed. It gets stuck on pivit points where there should be tension and there isn't.There needs to be at least one more anchor point at the bottom by the door to prevent tripping. It happened so many times. It's not 6 feet inside the centre of the tent. Perhaps they measured where the poles meet. But that's outside of the tent. Would Buy Again

I really love this tent. I bought it to replace a modified dome tent that said it had a 6 foot height, but really on did right in front of the door. This tent has a lot of headroom, and a cot fits easily in it. Setup, even solo and 5'7", hardly takes any time at all - maybe 5 minutes. Having the poles attached to the back corners and clipping instead of trying to feed the poles through a narrow sleeve is great. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the zipper is finicky. There is a flap over the door zipper to keep the rain out, which is smart, but it often gets stuck when zipping from the top half to the bottom half, where the top and bottom flaps overlap slightly. But you just unzip a couple of inches and do it more carefully. If something happened ... MoreI really love this tent. Coleman tents went through a phase where the quality wasn't great, but I've been very happy with them over the past 10 years or so.
