We bought this for our first camping trip for us and our 4 year old. You can’t depend on perfect weather while camping so I was sold on the “storm proof” claims for wind and rain. The first night was fine, it rained a little and everything was fine. It was totally dark in the tent as the sun came up which helped our kid sleep a little longer. The next day, the wind picked up to 20mph (claims it can handle 35mph) and it completely ruined the tent! At least 4 large rips in the seams and the rain fly has multiple holes in it too, including where the rope ties to the stake to keep it down. Also the zipper is GARBAGE, constantly snagging and was so hard to open and close because it would just get stuck. To get more airflow, we pulled back one corner of the rain fly every day. The other problem with skydome is the whole top 1/3 of the tent is screen. If you camp anywhere with wind and dust, then it blows dirt right up the rainfly, through the mesh top, and all over your bedding and belongings.Last, the poles are permanently attached to the tent, and instructions say to roll the tent up around the folded poles. The poles are the exact length of the storage bag. With the bulk of the tent and rainfly, and poles in the middle of the tent, the storage bag zipper is extremely tight and feels like it will fail in a few uses.

I purchased this tent for a camping trip in northern Ontario. During the dry days the tent was excellent, very spacious, great pockets on the inside for storage, easy set up. However once the rain began the tent began to leak. I had to set a tarp up over top of the tent to keep everything dry. As an experienced camper this was no issue, however it is a bit of an inconvenience as one would generally expect a fly to protect your tent from a little bit of rain. The rain went right through the fly and began to drip into my tent making everything inside damping and moist. If you are not experienced with tarp set ups, I would not recommend this tent as it does not seem to be water roof.
This tent is exactly as advertised. I am very surprised that it works so well. It truly is dark inside when it's bright outside. It introduces a new problem, you can't see in the day to get dressed, or look inside your bag, or whatever else you may need to do. You'll have to still use a lamp of some sort. I did notice a fairly significant heat difference compared to other campers in my group. That impressed us all. Just because it is dark inside, it does not stop sound better than any other tent I have ever had. I love the tent and it will fit a queen air mattress with a decent amount of room left on one side.
The poles are permanently attached to one side of the tent. After untangling the shock cords and fitting all the fiberglass ends into the aluminum sleeves, you have to clip a bunch of hooks to the poles. They can't just slide because of the aluminum sleeves on the poles and there aren't any markings to show where the hooks need to be positioned. If you start the hooks from the top, you have to keep adjusting the spacing. If you start at the bottom, you can't access the hooks at the top. All this could have been avoided by NOT BUILDING 1/2 OF EACH POLE INTO THE TENT, or at least marking where on each pole the hooks needed to be clipped. Even with 2 people, setup is a nightmare.
I bought this to replace a backpacking tent. I needed more room, specifically some headroom. I bought a cot to sleep on and picked this tent for its height and footprint. It is realistically a 2 season tent as there is mesh all around except the door side. I wish it had a second window too. Used it recently in heavy winds and rain and it held up well. I didn't have to stake down the additional guylines. Setup and takedown is quick. Packs small. As with any tent package, get some aftermarket stakes. The supplied ones are only good in emergencies.
We are a small Church. We purchased 20 other Coleman Tents that have a power cord zippered slot in the corner. We though when we ordered these 20 tents they were the same. They are not. These tents have all mosquito netting on the top portion of the tent walls AND they leak in water really bad EVEN WITH NO RAIN AND JUST DEW. The water drips from the canopy and right into tent since the top is all mosquito netting. This dripping wakes the kids up every morning at around 6 AM and their pillows and blankets get wet. We were really happy and are really happy with the original 20 we purchased. These last 20 came without a retail box or labeling just in a cardboard brown box and were shipped from Bangladesh, India. This tent is not seam sealed and the fly is not large enough to protect the sides in a rainstorm. It has a bathtub floor. During my first night I had that rainstorm. The inadequate fly allowed the rain to run down the sides of the tent that did not have sealed seams. It leaked so badly that the bathtub floor did indeed act as a bathtub and allowed all of the rain to gather inside of the tent. I picked up my gear and placed it on my cot. The next morning, I had to literally bail the tent out. This tent has a lot of headroom, and a cot fits easily in it. Setup, even solo and 5'7", hardly takes any time at all - maybe 5 minutes. Having the poles attached to the back corners and clipping instead of trying to feed the poles through a narrow sleeve is great.The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the zipper is finicky. There is a flap over the door zipper to keep the rain out, which is smart, but it often gets stuck when zipping from the top half to the bottom half, where the top and bottom flaps overlap slightly.
