Comfortable boot, poor workmanship

I bought these boots on September 29th, 2022, received them on October 4th - started wearing them probably the third week of October. The first thing I noticed is that, for a boot, they are extremely comfortable. I was relieved that they were also waterproof, one of the main reasons for the purchase. About 3 wears later, walking in damp grass, I noticed the water proofing no longer worked - my socks literally soaked. No worries, I bought three different cans of water proofing. On November 25th my pup and I took our normal 6 mile hike and I noticed that both of the boots are ripped at the seams. OK, I thought. I contacted customer service and was told that I would have to return the boots via mail service (on my dime) because they were under warranty, not returnable. ... MoreI bought these boots on September 29th, 2022, received them on October 4th - started wearing them probably the third week of October. I could choose one of two options: If the boots could not be repaired I could have them shipped back to me (not fixed) or get store credit (MSRP). Take note that the woman I spoke with was wonderful. I do like most of what Columbia has to offer in the form of a coat. I would not recommend these boots based on poor workmanship. The seams should have lasted a wee bit longer, for the money. Columbia, I believe you can do better - if you sell poor quality, at least lower the price to be equivalent to the quality.

Definitely not waterproof!

I previously reviewed these boots and gave it 5 stars for comfort and wear. In fact they may have been waterproof the few times I wore them previously. But after wearing them yesterday I give them a 0 for waterproofing. I was walking in wet field grass and my feet were soaked through immediately. And it was not from water or moisture coming over the top of the boots. Simply wet grass from dew. So despite their claim of “waterproof” they are definitely not!

After reading the reviews that the size is slightly small, I ordered 1/2 size up and it fit perfectly. I took it from the box to the trail and had no break-in problems. It was easy on my feet. I took if for hike in muddy terrain and it held well and did not slip. When terrain or trail was rocky and my ankle would turn, the boot allowed some flexibility but protected my ankle from severe turning. I also use it to walk on hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt and it's perfect.

Excellent purchase!

I don't normally write reviews, but my college-aged daughter is so happy with these hiking boots that I decided to write something about them. She is going to Costa Rica for a school trip in a few weeks. They said she needs good waterproof hiking boots. I was nervous about buying these boots online without her trying them first because we can spend hours in a shoe store while she tries on shoes and leave with nothing. If she actually selects shoes at a store, she usually complains of blisters and pain when breaking in new shoes.Knowing her history with buying shoes, I still took a chance buying these. I suggested she wear them around campus to get used to them before her long hiking trips in the rain forest. These were comfortable from day one!! They are the only pair of shoes she brought home over Thanksgiving. They are great looking, too. I'm planning to purchase myself a pair soon.

Held up When It Mattered

I bought this boot on a whim whe. We decided to go for a 4 day camping trip in a very remote location. I could not be happier that I did! At the start they were extremely comfortable, good support for both arches and ankles. Not once did they slip or hurt. We did A LOT of hiking. Two days in, we were hit with an awful storm that prevented us from getting back to our camp site with our vehicle. I decided to hike up the mountain in the pouring rain the three miles to camp, get our gear, and hike back down. When I say it was raining, I mean I was soaked to the bone despite heavy rain gear. The only thing that remained dry was my feet! Even trudging through water, my toes stayed dry. Not a single blister to be found, either. Highly Impressed!

First off im NOT a hiker. Im a fat guy from missouri who decided to go hiking in the Rockies. After looking at Merrels and Salamon boots in the $175-230 price range i wasnt happy with the fit and feel. The gentleman at the store suggested these and they were Very comfortable. I bought them on a thursday, and wore them on an 11 mile hike up 2,000 feet that saturday, and my feet never hurt once! No break in, and no blisters! They are absolutely not a replacement for snow cleats, but in mud and over rocks they performed exceptionally! They felt pretty warm at first but still breath well. And my feet stayed completely dry after walking through creeks and up a waterfall. I highly recommend these boots! Unlike the $200 boots iv read many reviews about not lasting~

Lighter With Good Support
9 November 2022

I like mid-hi boots for most of my walking as my ankles are a bit weak. These boots definitely provide the support I need. They are a bit lighter weight than other boots tried in the past. They handle almost all of the weather (water) I've run into. They give excellent traction for the price. The laces seem to wear like other boots I've owned, but the uppers seem to be tough and the soles are lasting longer. I'm very pleased with these boots.

Mediocre Hiking shoes
2 March 2020

Having used this for the past year its an okay shoe. To start things out, the shoes insoles are horrendous. They are just bad to the point where they feel uncomfortable and cheaply made. In fact I would recommend you if you get these shoes to throw away the included insoles as they provide 0 comfort and hurt your feet after you hike beyond 8 miles. The next con thing about these shoes is the waterproofing. In fact when hiking local mountains like Mt. Baldy, Cucamonga Peak, and other higher peaks, these shoes would do horrible at the most in the snow which would required me to use my other Columbia shoes in order to summit the peak. In fact one thing to note once your shoes become wet in the outer membrane in the front of the shoes they make the shoes heavier. In ... MoreHaving used this for the past year its an okay shoe. In fact one thing to note once your shoes become wet in the outer membrane in the front of the shoes they make the shoes heavier. In addition the waterproofing doesn't cover the entirety of the shoe. I guess its for the pros. First pro about these shoes how the rubber is solid and gives a good grip. The next pro is how cushioning besides the insoles are good. Overall these shoes are alright but if your looking about more waterproof then I would avoid this as it really does suffer especially in the waterproofing.Winter Hiking:Note: All Crampons will not fit with these. In fact these shoes are not meant with use of crampons they will not work in fact these are flexible shoes not meant for those peaks. I would say they are micro spikes compatible. If you want an Crampons the only ones that will work securely are K10 from Kahtoola and I would recommend getting Columbia Titanium Hiking Shoes, Columbia Newton Ridge as these two products fits well with the K10 and microspikes as my friends used them on their and would fit well. Other than that this shoe is good mainly for the summer not for the winter more or less.If your looking for summer hiking shoes they are good but if your looking for something for both seasons (Winter/Summer) then avoid this shoe and get the Columbia Terrebonne II Mid Titanium Outdry Extreme Men's Hiking Boot or the Columbia Newton Ridge. As these two products are good for both seasons.

Not waterproof
5 January 2023

I bought these because they were labeled waterproof and I needed waterproof shoes for my job. They leaked my first day wearing them. I stepped in water for a second and water seeped in around the toe. I walked through dewy grass for a couple hours another day and my socks were soaked around the toe. I'm really disappointed in the quality after spending $100 on these boots. I'll give them credit for being comfortable, although they run small. I wear an 8 and I could have sized up to a 9.

Switched to Columbia and glad I did
31 January 2022

In the past I owned hiking boots make by a different company that begins with "M". I was happy with the first pair I recieved but they changed some things with the second pair I bought, specifically the outer sole. They went from a rubber outer sole to a Vibram sole. Vibram is meant to last longer but the bad thing is it tends to be real slick on wet pavement or rocks, which is not good for hiking. I recieved my Columbia hiking boots, which have rubber soles, last weekend and took them with me on an extensive hike this past weekend. We hiked in 10" of snow as well as dry pavement. The waterproof held up extremely well, keeping my feet dry. I feel very safe and secure with the rubber soles and had no slipping issues at all.
