This is a good rain jacket. It gets the job done just fine, but I've got two small *fit* criticisms. I'm 5'11'' and weigh about 160 pounds. I bought a size small, and although it fits nicely around my torso, it's a little long, so it feels like it constricts my walking motion a bit. I wish the jacket were 2"-3" shorter. I also think the arms are a bit long. It would be nice if they were 1"-2" shorter. It seems like they made the *small* to fit someone who was tall and long but thin. Since I'm not tall and long, it doesn't fit quite right.

If you want a straight-forward, very practical rain jacket that will keep you dry in just about any rainy weather, look no further. That said, this is not necessarily a jacket that will keep you too warm as it does not have any real insulation — there are other Columbia jackets that would probably tick that box at a slightly higher price range. The material is very breathable so you don't have to worry about getting uncomfortably clammy and ultimately more wet than if you were to try and stay dry during some warm weather drizzles. It also works fairly well as a windbreaker. I used this as a shell over some fleece and it warded off some of those sharp wind chills pretty effectively. This also seems like it would be a good option for commuting cyclist who might need ... MoreIf you want a straight-forward, very practical rain jacket that will keep you dry in just about any rainy weather, look no further. There are no pockets other than the front hand pockets, which might be a downside for some folks, but it's not really a big deal as the front pockets have ample room and zippers to seal off important items. Sizing seems pretty accurate. It looked and felt great in my size whether I added layers underneath or didn't. The jacket folders into one of the hand pockets if you need it to be really compact for traveling. All in all, great jacket.

Actually waterproof and the mesh lining keeps the breathablity intact. Two complaints: the pocket zippers are installed upside down, msking the pockets unable to be closed partway to keep hands warm and water out. With your hands in the pockets, the wright of your hands fully unzips the pocket. The hood needs a velcro adjustment strap on the top rear side. Without a visor cap on, the hood nearly covers my face.Jacket kept me dry in a downpour. Its light weight and packability makes this a keeper.

We had some large rain storms over the holiday weekend so I decided to put the jacket through a test. (Rain actually caused major flooding wear I live)I did a small 8.5 mile day hike that was a mixture of being in the green tunnel and exposed with no tree cover. The rain was constant and moderate and heavy volumes coming down, wind was 10-15 mph, temperature ~70.===Water proofing/resistance====After about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs into my hike the jacket failed and I started to become wet. By the end of the hike (an hour later) I was soaked under the jacket. Things to note; I was keeping my pace slow to prevent/reduce sweating & this was the first time wearing this jacket. I took it out of the packaging that morning before leaving to hike.===Breathing===Side note on sweating this jacket seemed to breath well for me and I did not feel like I was trapped in green house.===Wind breaker===The jacket does a good job when it comes to stopping wind, even once it was compromised and letting water through. Though wind conditions were pretty tame maxing out at around 10-15 mph. Will be testing this further in the White Mountains in the near future.===Jacket Fit===I am 5' 7" 160lbs and bought the Medium jacket. I normally wear mediums as I have very broad shoulders. The medium fit true to size as I am use to with other jackets that are labeled as mediums.===Durability===If you are use to light weight gear & light rain jackets this feels normal. I wouldn't recommend using a jacket like this to preform prolonged rough tasks or to take a beating. Might not want to do long bush waking treks with it. This is much like any other light weight jackets on the market.===Conclusion===All in all I would recommend this for use in short exposures to passing light/moderate rain storms.I believe this product would do well for the average day hiker, shorter overnight backpacking trips. The jacket should hold out long enough for you to find shelter or weather a quick passing rain storm. If you are going to purchase this it might work better if you treat it with DWR yourself before use. You may get better results?I would NOT recommend this for thru hiking or longer backpacking trips. Reason being if you get wet on a long trip it could be very problematic.
The watertight rain jacket is a great choice. The fit is true to size and the list of color options was long. It’s the perfect weight and warmth for cool rainy evenings. The features like the drawstring attached hood, zippered pockets and Velcro closures over the zipper make this the perfect jacket for the heaviest rainstorm. I live in the central southern desert area of Arizona and when the monsoon season hits every July and August this is the perfect jacket. I am also able to wear it all fall and winter in the cool desert nights.
This jacket keeps me dry when it is misting or raining, warm when it is windy. It is a replacement only because my body has expanded too much for the previous one to zip. One size too small would still snap top and bottom but would not zip, allowing protection from mist but not from rain. I especially like that it will self-store in its left pocket. the only problem with the rain jacket is there is no reasonable way to carry it when it ts self packed. I sewed a string on the inside of the left pocket to use as a carrying handle and would recommend that Columbia do that on all their "packable" rain jackets.
I like the jacket but slightly more room would be appreciated. I have ordered other size medium jackets which I could not zip up ( but the Large size was too big); this one is snug but OK. Made for tall, skinny guys, I think, but I don’t fit that description. Also, I have noted that it wrinkles easily if it lays around, not on a hanger. But a short time in the clothes dryer on low heat gets rid of the wrinkles. I haven’t been out in heavy rain with it so I don’t know how good the waterproofing is.
Purchased for my husband. He is normally a tough buy as he is in between a medium and a large and has long arms. We went with the medium based on other reviews, and it fit perfectly! The olive color is even prettier in person and is just the right amount of neutral/earth-toned to go with everything else he wears. We are very pleased with the Watertight Jacket for Men and felt it was very reasonably priced, as well.
I have two other of these jackets in different colors and they seem like they will last a lifetime. This is the quintessential rain jacket. They are slightly different now from 2014 where the Columbia logo was stitched in rather than a printed graphic but besides that it's the same perfect rain jacket. I really hope this line of jackets stay with the company forever as I just bought another one just to add another color to my collection. My original graphite colored jacket still look new after seven years and has been my longest lasting of article of clothing. I live in Tacoma, WA and we get constant drizzle from fall to spring and could not imagine a better performing rain jacket than this.
Got a great buy on this rain jacket by buying direct from Columbia. It is well made. I like the velcro at the arm cuffs because I have short arms and I can cinch them around my wrists. The hood is large enough to pull forward of your face in a downpour. There are other adjustments. I give it four stars because I have not used it for a prolonged period in heavy rain... just light rain... so that remains to be seen. I like that the mesh lining even goes down the sleeves.
