I purchased these for a hike. When I got them, I was not impressed with the comfort and worried that they would not be comfortable for the hike I was planning. So, I wore them for a few days, and they felt OK.On my hike they started to hurt in the heel after the first mile. It got worse as the trail steepened. After about 5 miles my heels were blistered and popped. I pushed on as to not hold up my group. It was great to start going downhill and take the pressure off my heel. After about a mile my toes were blistering. I used moleskin, but it was no help. I finished slow and now I don't even dare put them back on after it took over a week to heal. These were a bad choice that I regret.

I have been wearing the boots for everyday activities since I purchased them about a month ago. The cushioning of the boots is great for walking long distances on flat surfaces. However, I haven't had the chance to test them on tough, rough hiking terrain. The reason I gave it four stars is because I had a nightmare trying to find the right pair of boots after buying them online. Firstly, the boots I received were different sizes. It was very obvious that the left boot was a different size than the right one. Returning the item was a hassle because Macy's online automatic bot service isn't well-trained and it took unnecessary time to process the return. After finally receiving the return tag, I went to three UPS stores to send the boots back, but none of them had a ... MoreI have been wearing the boots for everyday activities since I purchased them about a month ago. The good news is I’ve owned several pairs of these boots. The bad news is that I’ve owned several pairs of these boots. They are super comfortable right out of the box, lightweight, and waterproof. Great for hiking and walking the dog. Five star rating for that. Unfortunately, in my case, the rubber soles wear down to nothing in just a few months of wearing them two or three hours a day. The stitching and everything is great, but there’s no tread left. If Columbia could make them last longer it would be a major improvement and I wouldn’t be looking at other brands.

I bought these hiking boots from Dicks on line! Rating wise, I was deciding on the Timberland hiking boots and these! The madson timberland boots had similar ratings to the Newton Columbia boots! They both came in wide which I needed! The timberland got sold out prior to my purchase! I have been very satisfied with the comfort of the Columbia boot and would recommend these ! I purchased a12 size wide and I’m not fatigued at the end of the day! I’m on my feet for 20 plus hours! Not sure on the durability but have been pleased! I like to give a big shout out to Dicks customer service for outstanding customer service!
Super comfortable boot, light weight. Wore them hiking in Several California National parks. Good traction. Held well on steep rocks as well as sand. Waterproof all the way up. (Turns out if you step in water deeper than the boot your feet will still get wet!) Only knock at all is they don't breathe super well. I expect that from a waterproof boot, but these were a little 'warmer' than usual. I hiked in everything from snow to 75* desert.. the 70's were pushing it for warmth. I wouldn't wanna hike in these if the temp was in the upper 70's or 80's.... Overall a great boot so far though.
I received these boots to replace a leaky pair of Newton Ridge Waterproof Hiking Boots. The boots are comfortable and good-looking, but they are NOT waterproof. I just wore them while power-washing a fence for an hour. Admittedly, that's a stiff test of the boots; however, I came in with my boots making a sloshing sound and my socks were soaking wet. That's 2 pair of boots in the same line that failed so I won't try them again. My dilemma now is whether to return this second pair at my expense ($22 to send them back) or just keep them to use for damp conditions only. Not happy.
Boots seemed decent comfort wise and true to size. Looks are OK. Only has 6 sets of eyelets and was a little tough to get the fit right and tie the foot down properly. Ankle support not great but better than a shoe. Not for serious hiking or backpacking. Boots did not feel like good quality but for someone on a budget, they might work out OK. Upper material seemed thin and cheap. Sole lugs were not very deep and were soft for a hiking shoe. Did not really care for the lighter tan color and the thin cheap suede leather which I assume will attract and show off the dirt and grime from trail use. Problem was one shoe had a minor glue over run on top and it stood out due to the light tan color. Not much padding especially around the heel. I would not expect these shoes would hold up to hard hiking use nor would they last a long time with any hard use. The biggest problem was the popping sound one shoe made with every step as the material would bind above the flex point then pop/release. Some pressure on top the foot too. Returned them. Later got the non-suede leather version and it was horrible / worse with a severely flawed Upper finish and hurt my feet.
These are great hiking boots…I live in the Blue Ridge Mountains and have hiked hundreds of miles all over the world. Over 40 years of mountain hiking experience, these boots have served me well. Don’t pay attention to the troll who posted several negative reviews under different names, his job is to do that and it’s really not truthful. These trolls are paid to rag others, because their products can’t compete. Besides, Columbia would surely warranty any defects. So, I have used many high end hiking boots from top makers costing twice, even three times as much. These are well crafted with good materials, are very comfortable and lightweight. I find no defects and were perfect in every way. Great traction on slippery surfaces, rocks and grades. Waterproof as good as any high quality brand. I'm very sure no one makes a better boot for the money, even those higher priced offerings. Columbia works very hard at designing and developing fine outdoor merchandise at competitive prices…backed by years of customer satisfaction. What impressed me most was the comfort and quality.
Men's Newton Ridge™ Plus II Leather Waterproof Hiking Boot-These are a light hiking shoe and not designed for hard terrain or long hikes, and definitely not for backpacking. It's basically a cheaper trail walking and outdoor casual shoe. I did not verify the water proofing.-Had previously returned a defective suede version due to glue overrun and popping sound when walking due to leather / waterproofing above the shoe bend point binding and releasing. Also, the suede looked like it would attract and hold dirt /stains and seemed a little cheap. The Newton Ridge boots normally seem to get decent reviews and I got a good deal on the regular smooth leather version so bought it.-The overall fit was true to size but this boot was not as comfortable and irritated my ... MoreMen's Newton Ridge™ Plus II Leather Waterproof Hiking Boot-These are a light hiking shoe and not designed for hard terrain or long hikes, and definitely not for backpacking. Also, the suede looked like it would attract and hold dirt /stains and seemed a little cheap. The Newton Ridge boots normally seem to get decent reviews and I got a good deal on the regular smooth leather version so bought it.-The overall fit was true to size but this boot was not as comfortable and irritated my heel and achilles tendon. The lugs of the sole are very soft and pliable for a hiking boot and feel they could tear and would not provide firm traction consistently. The whole inside heel area is hard without any padding and the fabric inside the shoe was a little harsh/rough/not soft feeling. The heel would move up and down some and did not feel snug in the shoe. Eyelets only come is 6 pairs which seems to make it hard to get optimal heel support and fit. The eyelets were not oriented straight and consistent and they did not provide easy tightening as the boot string would bind in the eyelet rings.-The top of the shoe would bend/crease over the toes instead of at the normal foot bend point and crush down on the toes in both boots. But the big thing was the leather finish was horrible and not smooth feeling. I could see spotty dark grey or blackish discoloration all around the boot which stood out against the lighter normal color of the boot. Looked terrible.-My advice is to look for lighter duty Hiking boots that retail over $200 and get them on sale if you can. If you don't mind lower quality, minor problems, and possibly dealing with returns, you might get one of these that works fine.
The boots are exceptionally comfortable, and that is why I have bought 4 pairs, and keep coming back. They are light and waterproof at first up to the tongue. I hike and work in my boots all day, usually off-trail in the backcountry doing conservation work. The biggest negative for me is the loss of waterproofness after the first month or so. They are also not very durable. The lug pattern grips very well but wears out after several months, and you slide around. The stitching holds up, but the sole delaminates and wears out. I gave it 4 stars because they are comfortable and light, but I put them through a lot and they are probably geared more towards the average trail user.....I'll be willing to buy boots more frequently if it means I get more comfortable shoes on ... MoreThe boots are exceptionally comfortable, and that is why I have bought 4 pairs, and keep coming back.
