Bought a pair of these a few years ago when they came out and were more expensive than they are now, price turned me off a bit as I usually stuck with less expensive footwear. I was expecting a heavy, clunky and awkward boot but was pleasantly surprised to find a light, nimble, and comfortable shoe that I still wear. I still haven’t reapplied any waterproof compound and these things have held up through the winter’s keeping my feet warm and dry. They don’t really hold up well to sub zero temperatures, but these weren’t designed for that and the fact they still hold up better than some other boots I’ve worn that were supposed to be cold weather designed is a testament to the quality of these things. I’ll start with the positive, they look amazing - probably the most stylish hikers you can get. Sizing is spot on and yes it’s waterproof and is good for light snow.I bought these hikers a littler over 2 years ago, and after month 3 the inside lining started to wear out. I probably should have got a replacement as it may have been a one off defect, however continued to just press on and not that worn out area is too far gone. I initially used it as a shoe for holidays/travel, however now live in Canada so use it more.I’m slightly torn on my review due to the inner lining issue - this shoe hits every single point otherwise. I have been wearing the boots for everyday activities since I purchased them about a month ago. The cushioning of the boots is great for walking long distances on flat surfaces. However, I haven't had the chance to test them on tough, rough hiking terrain. The reason I gave it four stars is because I had a nightmare trying to find the right pair of boots after buying them online. Firstly, the boots I received were different sizes. It was very obvious that the left boot was a different size than the right one. Returning the item was a hassle because Macy's online automatic bot service isn't well-trained and it took unnecessary time to process the return. After finally receiving the return tag, I went to three UPS stores to send the boots back, but none of them had a ... MoreI have been wearing the boots for everyday activities since I purchased them about a month ago. Classic style for the casual hiker
26 October 2023

This is a great looking boot -- I love the peat moss colour. Comfortable and light right out of the box, and fit was accurate. Have yet to see how it fares against a Northern Ontario winter, but I don’t have any complaints after the first 100 km of walking and hiking through autumn leaves. Also can’t yet comment on durability, but I am a happy hiker thus far.

Comfortable and Functional
19 November 2023

I bought these and walked 7 km the first day to break them in. Later I hiked 45 km on the Inca Trail in Peru with them, also in the Amazon rainforest.I never had a blister or ... any issue beyond needing to double knot the laces. Quite attractive too. How's this for an endorsement — after each day hiking, people would put on comfortable walking shoes. I put these boots back on. That's how comfortable they are.

Comfortable out of the box and forever
14 November 2021

Straight out of the box, these boots did not need to be broken in. I used them recently (October 2021) in Colorado where I hiked the Morrison Slide trail and they were just perfect. They offer ankle protection from the constant ankle turning rocks that never quite twist your ankle completely, but just enough to make you hurt later if you are wearing mids or trail runners. The traction is completely confidence inspiring. I've owned many other boots from Merrell and other companies, and these were the easiest to use out of the box and have been the best companions. I have the Elk/Red/Black ones and they honestly look beautiful too.I've used these for snow shoeing and for general hiking on flat wet grassy and muddy areas and they are perfect. Honestly, after wearing them and caring for them for two years, they look brand new except for a few scratches on the plastic part between the sole and the suede from sliding them across rocks. You can clean the mud from the treads in the sink. I'm recommending the female version to my gf for our upcoming hiking trip to Utah. 10/10. Most trail runner shoes lately have been running a 12 for me when before I've always been an 11.5 most of my adult life. These are 11.5 and fit true. These are slightly bulky for casual wear, so if you're just getting them for school or the mall, I don't know. I usually forget I'm wearing them until I have to drive. They are extremely comfortable.

Just OK for the price
6 May 2023

Boots seemed decent comfort wise and true to size. Looks are OK. Only has 6 sets of eyelets and was a little tough to get the fit right and tie the foot down properly. Ankle support not great but better than a shoe. Not for serious hiking or backpacking. Boots did not feel like good quality but for someone on a budget, they might work out OK. Upper material seemed thin and cheap. Sole lugs were not very deep and were soft for a hiking shoe. Did not really care for the lighter tan color and the thin cheap suede leather which I assume will attract and show off the dirt and grime from trail use. Problem was one shoe had a minor glue over run on top and it stood out due to the light tan color. Not much padding especially around the heel. I would not expect these shoes would hold up to hard hiking use nor would they last a long time with any hard use. The biggest problem was the popping sound one shoe made with every step as the material would bind above the flex point then pop/release. Some pressure on top the foot too. Returned them. Later got the non-suede leather version and it was horrible / worse with a severely flawed Upper finish and hurt my feet.

Still Feelin' Comfy After Walkin' Mile After Mile

First off, a caveat: these are the first decent hiking boots I've ever had, so I don't have any other pair I could compare them with. That said, I'd concur with the many reviews in praise of how comfortable these boots are. As with most people, my feet aren't exactly the same size and the slightly smaller one's swollen from arthritis, but somehow it all works out to "no problem at all", no insoles or other accessories necessary. At my age I don't go rough on the boots any more, but I do walk a few miles with them every day and after the couple months I've had them now they look and feel brand new—well, apart from the normal bit of soiling that comes with regular walks.Sure, there are more high-end solutions around, but I maintain that these are the better ... MoreFirst off, a caveat: these are the first decent hiking boots I've ever had, so I don't have any other pair I could compare them with. That said, I'd concur with the many reviews in praise of how comfortable these boots are. Choosing between Timberland and Columbia and North Face. These were a good price and seemed to be well made. They are. broke them in over a day. took them to Utah and trekked through snow and rain with no problems. i was worried they'd be stiff....sooooo comfortable especially for long hikes and walks. and warm and ...i'm stoked about these boots

Terrible, and nothing like the picture
14 December 2022

I bought 2 pair. One for myself and one for a family member for Christmas. From the moment I opened the box I was utterly disappointed. The color "Nori" looks absolutely nothing like the photos. It looks like a light brown with a lighter brown spot in the middle in the pictures. The actual color is dark baby shart green with a slightly lighter shade of baby shart green in the middle. They're incredibly ugly. I actually feel bad that my family member is going to to open their pair on Christmas. Then, to top it all off, when I tried my pair on it felt like there was still paper in the toe of one boot. Nope. It was just the internal material sagging down, and there's no way to fix it. My advice to you... don't buy these. My advise to Columbia.... stop with the ... MoreI bought 2 pair. One for myself and one for a family member for Christmas. My advise to Columbia.... stop with the ridiculous color names that don't mean anything and don't tell anyone what the actual color is, especially if the photos don't look anything like the actual product, and do better quality control so you don't have products that shouldn't even be sold at "seconds" or "blem" stores going out to your customers. I've spent a lot of money with Columbia just in the last 2 months. Not sure I'll be spending any more. I'm not going to risk this happening again. I guess this is a lesson to not buy clothes and shoes online.
