10/10 for your short curvy queens
5 January 2023Best Big Sister

I bought this as a gift for my sister who's living through (suffering through) her first winter in Missoula, Montana. She stole all the genetics for a proper rear-end from me, so she's packing a double dose of hips, if ya know what I mean. But she's short (take that, sucker) and large chested like every woman is this twice darned family, so she's a short curvy lady and hasn't ever liked long coats. But when it hits the negatives, ya girl better get a long coat. But she wouldn't just buy one herself, the lazy lout, so naturally the big sister steps in and BOY-OH-BOY did I win sister brownie points with this bad boy. She's usually a 12, but a very hippy and booby 12, so I went up to a 1X here and it's right on the line of being too big, but I think the XL wouldn't ... MoreI bought this as a gift for my sister who's living through (suffering through) her first winter in Missoula, Montana. She can also fit a sweater under the jacket, if she ever learns to properly layer like a grown adult human. Even though I'm 5'8", the coat hem is right at my knees, longer than on the models. The two-way zipper can be a little fussy but I'm getting used to it. I'm sensitive to collars and I often feel like they're choking me, but the collar height is perfect and the width is comfortable even when fully zipped. I like that the hood has a cord to cinch it closer to your face, but I agree with other reviewers that she fleece lining was a bad choice because of how it sticks to your hair. I live in southern Ohio and I think it will be plenty warm for very cold winter walks as long as I have a sweater underneath. If I lived somewhere colder, I would probably opt for something with warmer insulation. All in all, I'm happy with this coat and the price I paid for it (while it was on sale) and I hope it lasts a long time.

I was worried it would be too long in the arms, but it really isn't. It zips easily and goes to just above my knees. The hood with the removable fur is cozy and kept my head warm, but my forehead was exposed. It doesn't tighten around the face. The pockets are easy to access and deep. I like the zip pocket on the chest for my glasses. I was out for about 30 minutes in very blustery, extremely cold weather and stayed warm from my head to my knees the whole time! Great winter coat!
29 January 2023

I got this coat because I recently gained weight and my other coat didn’t fit anymore. I really loved my other coat (Columbia Apres Arson) and I had it for over 3 years and it still looks like new. So I was hesitant that I would love this coat or any other coat as much as I loved the other one. I was wrong!Pros: obviously this one fits more comfortably, I switched from M to L (I’m 5’5” and 160lbs.), this coat also has the chest pocket on the outside, which means I don’t have to open up my coat in the snow/rain. I also like that the hood is a little bigger and the fur can be folded out while still covering my whole head.Cons: this hood is not removable, which doesn’t bother me but it’d be nice to have the option. This coat also doesn’t have the fabric that covers the hand with the thumbhole, but the sleeves are pretty long so it’s fine. The fur is also attached with buttons and not a zipper like my previous coat. I find that they’re slightly harder to manage and a zipper or even snaps would be easier, but again it’s not a huge deal to me. Overall I really like it. I’ve tried it in 30 degree weather and I had to unzip a bit because I was starting to sweat, so I think it will do well in lower temperatures as well.

Great winter jacket and no animals were harmed
5 December 2022

If I could give this 4.5 stars, I would. This is a solid heavy winter jacket with a cute design that isn’t too boxy. (The hood is adorable and is incredibly generous in coverage so I feel like my head is truly nestled in warmth.) The best part is that it is sufficiently warm while being **down free.** And I write this in December living in South Dakota.I own several Columbia jackets and have always worn an XS. (I fluctuate between 115 and 120 pounds and an 5’4”.) All my other jackets were purchased in store so this jacket was the first online purchase and I was thrown by the company’s recommendation to size up. I purchased a Small and it was too big. I don’t think this is necessarily fair.I reordered an XS and it fits well and is still roomy enough for a bulky sweater underneath. My only complaint, as others have mentioned, is that the pockets aren’t designed in a way that allow your hands to slide in for warming. Nor are they lined so on the coldest days I will definitely need to have gloves.)

Nice lightweight coat, it’s wind and water resistant and warm
1 April 2022

I received this coat a couple of weeks ago and have had a chance to wear it a number of times in a variety of conditions. I really like it but there are a few things I would change if I could. First, it’s nice and warm without being excessively heavy. I live in upstate NY so we have a lot of cold, snow, and wind. Both in wind chills around 0° and walking in stores I found it comfortable. It’s pretty lightweight too so you don’t feel weighed down by a heavy coat. The length is a little longer than I’d like (I’d make it several inches shorter) but it is nice and warm and those extra inches so make a difference in the wind. I’m 5’3” and about 145 pounds and ordered a size large. It does seem to run a little small so I’m happy with the size I ordered. I’m 5’3” and about 145 pounds and ordered a size large. It does seem to run a little small so I’m happy with the size I ordered. Plenty of room to put a heavy sweater or layers underneath if needed. The fabric is is made out of does help a lot with wind and has been water resistant in rain or snow- nothing has soaked in, it just drips off the surface. I wasn’t crazy about the fur around the hood and I was glad it detaches really easily and the jacket doesn’t look like something is missing when it’s off. I also wish the pockets opened up on the side of the jacket so it would be easier to slide hands into them. But the pockets are nice and roomy, and they open at the top and close with a snap. Last, I would like a knit or ribbed stretchy type cuff in the sleeves. It has a snap that can be tightened so it still works pretty well. If you’re looking for a lightweight longer coat that provides a good amount of coverage and warmth, then this is a coat I think you would like. Consider sizing up to accommodate layered or bulky clothing, or if you are fuller in the waist or bust.

Perfect for my needs, great fit for a tall body.
2 December 2021

I read the reviews before placing my order and decided to order one size up from my typical women's Large size in most brands. (A few examples: Carhartt, Gap, Duluth Trading.) I'm glad I did so because I think the XL will give me a better fit than a Large would have. A Large probably would have been too tight around my hips while sitting. I have enough room for some layering with the XL size without it being oversized. This coat fits me very well proportionally and is nipped in at all the right places, like the waist, so it's a smooth fit with no bunching up above my butt like I can get sometimes. It lays flat all around me so it's flattering. But I will note that ** I am 6'0" tall ** and this might make a difference for you if you are average height or shorter. ... MoreI read the reviews before placing my order and decided to order one size up from my typical women's Large size in most brands. It lays flat all around me so it's flattering. But I will note that ** I am 6'0" tall ** and this might make a difference for you if you are average height or shorter. The cuffs of the sleeves hit right about at my knuckles, which is a rarity for me in a regular, not tall sized coat. So if you are much shorter than my 6-foot 190lb frame and would need the same XL size, the sleeves might be way too long for you. The hem of the coat falls about an inch above my knees.I find the amount and size of the three pockets to be very functional for my needs. The hood is adequately large enough for my big head and tall height, and I'm glad the faux fur trim is removable. The part that zips up to the neck is nice so you don't necessarily need a scarf since it comes up high to my chin, and there's a piece of fabric that covers the top part of the zipper so you won't catch your skin in it if it's zipped up all the way.The color I selected is the olive green and since studio lighting, websites, and device screens can all alter colors, I just hoped that it would be similar to what is shown. And it is! It's a darker olive, not a bright one. The material's weave has an ever so slight crosshatch look with some black almost peeking through. It's just the fabric itself and not an intentional pattern or anything, but I like it because it adds to the toned down green. As for the warmth, I have yet to test this in my super cold and snowy Wisconsin weather so I can't vouch for the special claims about the metallic lining. But between how I always layer up in cold weather (no matter what coat I wear) and for my specific needs and lifestyle, I feel confident this will work perfectly. I mainly got it for those days where there's lots of snow or sleet/freezing rain where you need to cover up so your clothes don't get wet. I take public transportation to and from work and other places so on a usual basis the longest stretches of time I'm outdoors in winter is while on a bus stop or walking somewhere. So again, from what I can tell so far I think this coat will work perfectly.

The Perfect Winter Coat
2 February 2022

When my zipper broke on my trusty old winter coat it took FOR.EV.ER to find just the right one to replace it and this is IT! It runs true to size and is a slim, flattering cut, but not overly fitted, so I can wear my normal size with a sweatshirt underneath without feeling like I’m going to bust the seams. It’s long enough to keep my behind out of the wind and is quite warm without being heavy or bulky. The heft of it is just right to feel like good quality without being overly burdensome and the lining is so silky smooth it goes on like buttah - no fabric sticking on fabric when you put it on. I love the big pockets that actually have room for things AND close to keep them secure. One of my favorite features of this guy is actually the hood because the perfect hood ... MoreWhen my zipper broke on my trusty old winter coat it took FOR.EV.ER to find just the right one to replace it and this is IT! It runs true to size and is a slim, flattering cut, but not overly fitted, so I can wear my normal size with a sweatshirt underneath without feeling like I’m going to bust the seams. I love the big pockets that actually have room for things AND close to keep them secure. One of my favorite features of this guy is actually the hood because the perfect hood is hard to find! It’s not too big or small and the faux fur trim is removable, which I love because I’m not normally a fur girl. And I discovered that if you have the faux fur trim attached you can flip it forward for extra wind protection. It has a double zipper, so you can unzip the bottom and it’s long enough to need that for sitting or taking long strides, but the double zipper is the only thing I’ve had a bit of an issue with on this coat. Sometimes it’s a bit sticky and takes a bit of effort to get both zippers on far enough to work. Otherwise it has been perfect for a cold, Midwest winter. Personally I find it a bit too warm if the outdoor temps are above freezing and I have a hard time shelling out $200 for any article of clothing, but lucky for me I got a wicked deal on it and I’m loving it!

Warm coat

Update- I love this coat! As a teacher, this gets me through recess duty on days when even the kids are complaining about the cold! I originally rated this cost 4 stars because the sleeves were long. After wearing this coat more, I am changing my rating to 5 stars. I actually really like the sleeves because they cover my hands. This coat is very warm! I wore it on a day that had a wind chill of 10 degrees and was pleasantly surprised that I did not feel the wind at all. I really liked the button pockets as it made it easy to keep my hands warm. Based on other reviews, I went ahead and sized up to a large. There seems to be plenty of room for heavy clothing underneath the coat, and I may have been okay with a medium. The sleeves seem long than they need to be and ... MoreUpdate- I love this coat! As a teacher, this gets me through recess duty on days when even the kids are complaining about the cold! I ordered this from Macys where it was also on sale. I was looking to replace 2 of my in excess of 20 yr old casual, non Down insulated jackets by Pacific Trail (I understand Columbia has purchased this business?) I liked the longer length of this jacket, but this jacket has a plastic zipper. Both of my old jackets have metal zippers that have withstood many machine washings. I don't believe plastic zippers could withstand repeated washings without ultimately deforming. Also, I like to dress in layers so I often have a top and hoodie on under the jacket. I sized up to a large to fit the layers and the jacket fit well. However when I stepped outside in 23 degree weather, I noticed right away that my arms were cold. It almost felt there was hardly any insulation in ... MoreI ordered this from Macys where it was also on sale.
