Best water bottle I have ever owned. Even other Contigos are less worthy of the title 'best design' than this one, because their capacity is too small. I have several colours of this model, but they are stashed overseas. For so,e reason unknown to me, retailers favoured tge smaller models wgich fir big hydrators like me are way too small. While in Canada, I added a Decathlon holder and rigged up a different brand of shoulder strap. But I lost the entire set-up on the bus. I am very disappointed that no one sells the Contigo Ashland 40 ounce 1.0 anymore (there was one online seller only, and they have disappeared?). Only place to find one, if very lucky, is at thrift shops. Why did Contigo stop selling their very best model?

I never even knew that a water bottle could be so poorly designed and dysfunctional. The water pressure builds up in the straw, and when you click the button to open the sipping spout, the water shoots out of the spout like a fountain, which means that you will be soaking wet wherever you use this, especially if you put the bottle in the freezer before drinking from it. There is no insulation, which means it sweats like none other, and using it without having a bunch of paper towels nearby is out of the question. You’d have better luck pouring water into a plastic grocery bag and drinking out of that before using this garbage bottle. I was shocked that a contigo could be this level of disappointing. I've purchased two of these. The first began to have problems opening the autospout after about a year of daily use. After soaking it in soapy water, then it began to leak near the top of the straw. So for a while I just removed the straw and tipped it up to drink from. Later, on purchasing a replacement, I saw the advertised limited lifetime warranty from Contigo. I no longer had a receipt, and wasn't sure if this would be called normal wear and tear. I went ahead and submitted a warranty claim to Contigo, supplying the needed pictures that it called for. Very disappointed with the new style. I recently had to purchase new Contigo water bottles because I lost one of the old ones & the lid of another one broke (it lasted for a very long time). The new lids are very bulky/heavy. There is no longer a clip which I used all the time (women have to carry multiple items everywhere we go so being able to clip the water bottle to your purse was very helpful!) and the new straw set up does not work well. The previous straws were a hard plastic & all one piece which worked great. The new ones are a more flexible plastic that does not always stay inserted into the lid even when you push it in tightly.I really wish you had stayed with the previous design. You know the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
I bought one of these over a year ago - I hand wash mine - After about 3 months of daily use the vacuum seal was not working properly and I could barley get any water. I would take it apart and put it back together and it would work for a bit then stop. I bought a second autospout bottle (complete) thinking it was a one off. After approx. a month the same thing began to happen, then the spout would not even pop up. I am so disappointed. These are great at keeping my water cold even when I forget them in my car in 90degree weather - not kidding they still had ice inside despite the exterior of the water bottle being the same temp as my car interiorJust wish there was a way to get a replacement lid - Or heck for the lids to last longer than 6 months with daily use
Water spits out of the bottle after the lid has been shut. Initially I thought that it was because it was in my bag and pressure was building up from it shaking around. So I stopped putting it in my bag and just carried it in my hand to prevent as much movement within the bottle and that did not improve the problem either. The final straw was after taking a sip, setting the bottle down in a cup holder and picking it up and it spitting out a massive amount of water to the point that I had to change shirts. At that point, I went and purchased a new one because my daughters contigo water bottles are so awesome that I thought maybe it was just a fluke. Well this bottle does the same thing. It's not super quiet, (I probably wouldn't do it in a room with a just fallen asleep kid, if you know what that's like) but it's not distracting noise. I don't ever feel like I have to question if the spout locked or not. The construction of the entire lid seems like it has been an upgrade that Contigo has taken the time to do in their bottles, which honestly makes me more likely to buy them and recommend them to others.Now here is the important part.... drinking out of it. You know how with some water bottles that can have the pressure built up in them, similiar to styles like these? This one doesn't seem to have that issue. Like if I drink out of this bottle, I could drink out of it for a solid 30 seconds and not have to let go for any pressure issues. It also doesn't make any wind or whistling noises as I drink out of it. Drinking out of it, I get a constant flow of water, no air or any other issues. It flows really smooth through the mouthpeice. I don't feel like I need to readjust my mouth on the nozzle or my mouth gets too wet to hold onto it. Honestly, I have never had smoother drinks out of any other water bottle. It's like I'm pouring the water in my mouth more so than sucking it up. It takes very minimal sucking to bring the water up, which was a surprise since the bottle is pretty tall. I drink A LOT of water working out, I feel like I am in a constant state of thirst a lot and drinking out of this water bottle feels like I'm not having to wait to quench my thirst.My only complaint is that it doesn't seem like water stays cold in it for long periods of time, especially if it is left in a car. It works long enough to get cold water that lasts maybe for an hour, hour amd a half, which is good for a workout, but I wouldn't consider it to stay cold for longer than that.For a little while, I had lost my faith in Contigo with a water bottle I had previously gotten where the lid fell apart. However, my faith has been restored in them, and they have actually made me really enjoy their product again where I am likely to recommend them again.

I reached over grabbed the water bottle and hesitated but thought, nah, it will be fine, I pushed the button and the spout popped up and red crangrape juice squirted up and down all over my $350.00 white linen bedsheets and pillow cases. I got most of the juice out of the sheets but some staining is going to be permanent.I own other Contigo products, stainless steel hot/cold vacuum sealed cups, other water bottles, and I have no problems with them.Don't you guys test your products? Also, the straw sucks, pun intended. It comes out of the lid too easily, and the length is messed up.I paid $22.00 each for two of these water bottle with real life volcanic action and I feel like I got ripped off and over charged for a crappy product. I had the old model for years until I finally dropped it enough times that it broke. I then got the new Ashland as a replacement and was excited to see it came in a pretty lavender. After only a few months use the silicone mechanism broke and it was leaking and I was sucking up air through the straw. I contacted customer service and they were very prompt in getting me a replacement but after a few months use this one seems to have failed the same way. Additionally there's no way to remove the silicone mouthpiece for cleaning so mold builds up in there pretty quickly and it's very difficult to clean even when I purchased a brush designed for reusable straws. I was planning on replacing this with one of the other models with a more open mouthpiece for easier cleaning ...
