I have bought both the Warm and Cool grey sets of Copic markers and I really couldn't be more happy with them. If you are looking to produce beautiful tonal drawings, these will get the job done and then some. Your only limitations will really be your own abilities which I guarantee will grow if you stick with the Copics. That being said I just wanted to say a few words on the price and the markers themselves. It's easy to look at a set of Copic markers and think to yourself "Why would I pay so much for something I'm going to throw out in just a few months?" And with any other brand of marker, you'd be correct in feeling a little ripped off. But Copics are different; and not just because they are quality markers, because in all honesty so are Prismacolors or most ... MoreI have bought both the Warm and Cool grey sets of Copic markers and I really couldn't be more happy with them. And with any other brand of marker, you'd be correct in feeling a little ripped off. But Copics are different; and not just because they are quality markers, because in all honesty so are Prismacolors or most other high end brand of markers. But the difference is that any Copic marker you buy can be refilled once it goes dry and all the nibs and brush heads can be replaced once they are worn out. Because of this, buying a set of Copic markers is more like buying a set of paint brushes rather than a set of pencils, pastels or markers for that matter. If you do decide to buy a set, you are looking at a high up front cost, not only for the markers but also the refill ink for each marker. However, once you've made the investment it's pretty cheap to keep your markers going. Each refill bottle will fill a Copic marker 7-10 times, making it somewhere between 50 cents to a dollar per refill. So, in the long term it becomes well worth the initial price, especially when you consider one Prismacolor marker costs somewhere between 4-6 dollars to replace. These Copic martkers really are an investment; not just as far as money goes but in yourself as well. So, if you can't see yourself using them regularly a couple years down the road then they might not be a good fit for you. On the other hand, if you are an artist who is looking for a set of tools that are going to last and produce quality work, I can tell that your money is being well spent.

I buy Copic markers in 9 tones of grey and use them to plan the values in a quilt, without committing to specific colors. They bring the drafted picture to life. The grey tones work great showing where dark, medium and light tones are needed to articulate the shapes, and create variations. The markers don't stink and still work perfectly even if they've been inactive for 2 years or more.

This is known to be the better of the three copic alcohol markers so I may have placed my expectations too high first off. They're good markers but it all really depends what paper you use them on! Don't forget to consider that 'cause silly me I did! It proves to be a lighter and more of a digital art touch look to it if used on the thick smooth white paper (so it doesn't bleed through very much-> ex: I'm using what's called Pen paper by Pentalic- which is not ideal but just me testing it out- ideally, get the paper pads meant for copic markers). Another paper is the smooth white side of watercolor Canson paper that blends much better in keep the color shade or tint be one color rather than being able to see each and every individual stroke of the marker tip. ... MoreThis is known to be the better of the three copic alcohol markers so I may have placed my expectations too high first off. Also, cool feature of the product is that the darker tip side of the marker indicates the fine tip side.Furthermore, Dickblick has been awesome with shippings. I'm excited to get my stuff pretty fast within only a few days. Also, I ordered 120 of these individual original copic markers and they got all the colors right-luckily without a mix-up so I wouldn't have to bother with returns.

#sweepstakesThe copic markers work beautifully BUT be aware that the nibs on the copic ORIGINAL markers are not the same as the ones on the copic SKETCH markers. It is hard to tell from the images on the website. The classic markers have a hard fine bullet nib instead of a flexible brush nib like the copic sketch. If you want to do more illustration type work and be able blend colors, you'll want to get the copic sketch markers instead of the original ones just to save yourself the trouble of buying brush nibs to replace the ones on these.Other than that, the colors are vibrant and go on smoothly. I just wish they all came automatically with the brush nib on one end!
Over time I am slowly buying up all the Copic original markers. I also order the available superfine nibs that are not the default versions but can be easily swapped out. I think the Copic colors are great and they have nice diversity. I would quibble that on the whole, they are slightly more translucent and less opaque over all than other brands. But i do enjoy them. They have a slight bleed depending on your paper too, slightly more than other brands. But if you work with them for a while, they are quite enjoyable.
I love the Copic classic markers. I have a lot of different markers but Copic is my favorite markers. Since I have been using Copic classic markers, I have not used the other markers and Have thrown out some of them. Copic are expensive but I wait till they go on sale.
I could really gush for hours about Copic markers. The squared shape of the Original markers discourages rolling around and off your desk. The color selection is vast, especially when paired with the Copic Sketch line. The inks are vibrant and blend well together. The colors are conveniently coded and help tremendously at figuring out where they belong on the color wheel at a glance. What's even better is just the amount of options Copic has for what you can do. Interchangable nibs, refills (that are actually very cost efficient in the long run, making their steep starting price over other brands like Prismacolor more than worth it), and even options to mix and create your own marker colors if you so desire. If you're serious about working with markers, there ... MoreI could really gush for hours about Copic markers. I love Copics but I ordered this nib and I wanted the sketch with a longer softer, more free flowing nib. I have to return and wait again for them to get to me. I ordered them Nov. 15 but it took until Dec, 2 to get them. I live in Chico, next to the Camp Fire and wanted to color with them and was disappointed that I got the wrong ones. The smoke was terrible and had to stay inside, so of course I wanted the pens to color with. Oh well, it rained and now no more smoke. Thank goodness. Pens were nice but not the same shape on the pen plus the nib was more like a pen.
Could have purchased for a cheaper price somewhere else but wanted to make sure I got the real thing. Blick's price are better than other art (and craft) stores in my area. I don't feel like Blick is trying to rip me off. Another store was selling Copic Markers for the same price as Blick but only if you bought 2 sets (BOGO 50%). These are pricey markers that I would not buy for just anyone, so who needs two sets? I am always happy with things I get from Blick. Website is getting better.
