Coros Apex Premium GPS Multisport Watch 42mm (Black)

I got the 46mm silicone version of this watch and it is cash money. Some key upsides I have noticed already include: + excellent battery life. quick-charging + comfortable, low-profile design + quick and accurate satellite sync + intuitive app and customizable layout. Negatives: - There is no backlight which does save battery, but it means you have to unlock the watch to read when you are out of direct sunlight. - The little bands that keep the strap in place are sticky and hard to move, makes it hard to take on/off - The watch face seems durable but doesn't like being scraped against rock climbing walls (oops) I look forward to skiing with it this winter!

Excellent multisport gps

The Coros Apex 46 proved to be a very good buy. I took it to replace my old Garmin 735XT and it is performing very well. Personally I use it for running, since I don't do other sports. The GPS is very accurate, it connects to both Bluetooth and ANT + accessories. This is a great plus since thanks to this I can continue to use the Garmin HR-Run heart rate monitor without having to buy a new one. It natively supports Stryd potentiometers, another point in its favor. The detection of the heartbeat on the wrist is comparable to that of the Garmin 735, however you have to be careful to position the watch correctly above the wrist bone, otherwise it will bust by at least 20 more beats per minute. The mobile app is very simple to use and allows you to create structured workouts in a simple and effective way. The workouts can be inserted in a training plan that can be synchronized directly with the clock. Unfortunately, once the training plan has been created, a change to the original workout does not automatically update the training plan, which must be changed separately. One of the strengths of this device is definitely the battery. Its duration is exceptional! You will not find any other GPS on the market with a range comparable to the Coros. I highly recommend the purchase. The value for money dwarfs other brands such as garmin and suunto, and the battery has an exceptional life.

Great Watch, Fast Shipping

Great fitness watch!

I've had my Coros Apex 42 for 2.5 years and have loved it. I find touchscreens don't function well with sweaty fingers, so was pleased that this uses buttons. Unlike my previous, this watch survived hot yoga!! The heat and humidity has murdered all predecessors. I also found battery life to be amazing, like that I can turn off phone notifications, and found gps/distance/heartrate info to be accurate. Sadly, my battery suddenly stopped holding a charge last week :( will be reaching out to customer service since it seems they don't make the copper face anymore (boo!).

Happy Trail Runner

Overall I've been happy with this watch. I primarily use it for trail running. The battery life is excellent, activity data seems accurate (when I run with friends who have Garmin and Polar watches we have similar distance and elevation info), I like the dial and button to navigate, options for customization, smaller size, and that you can switch the orientation of the buttons if you're left handed. The only disappointment has been the heart rate monitor. I don't expect perfection from wrist monitors, but being 50+ bpm off at times is pretty rough. Taking the watch off to "reset" it as Coros recommends, and to clean off the watch does help.

It's not a Garmin

I bought this watch as a replacement for my dying Garmin Fenix 5s. I bought it because I have some long races coming up and I really wanted something with a long battery life and a reasonable price tag. The Coros Apex definitely lived up to the reputation there. I tried the watch for about a week and half and only charged it once. Even then, I probably could have waited longer, but had a long run and wanted to be sure. Some of the pros of the Coros were that it was lighter than my Fenix was, I loved the 2 bands to secure the watch band, it had great accuracy in tracking mileage, the price was reasonable for the features and of course that battery life was amazing! At the end of the day, if I hadn't been a long time Garmin customer and grown accustomed to the features Garmin offers, I might have loved this watch. It is a great quality watch, but it's not a Garmin.

Poor customer service, not made to last

I loved this watch initially and of course a few months after my warranty expired, the watch just stopped charging and the dial stopped responding too. I followed all of the customer service advice and all I was left with was an expensive brick. In the past when I’ve had issues with Garmin I’ve had amazing experiences with their customer service and we’ve always found the root issue. Coros seems content with the fact that their watches can just stop charging. They’ve had watches get recalled for the same issue I’m seeing but mine didn’t make the recall list. Long term quality of this watch is poor. I have switched back to my Garmin which is older than the coros and is still working. Be careful buying this watch, you might be buying it again sooner than you’d like

Terrible experience with this watch

I’ve had this watch for almost a year now. Unfortunately, I did not realize how poorly this device performed until after REI’s technology return period had passed. Overall, I have been very disappointed with the numerous issues I’ve had with the Coros Apex.The worst problem I’ve encountered is inaccuracy with the heart rate monitor. I’ve been in the middle of an elliptical or stationary bike workout, and the heart rate will just drop off in the middle down to about 90-100 beats-per-minute for no obvious reason. When I first encountered the issue, I assumed it was a fluke. But when it happened again, I reached out to Coros support. When you start a GPS workout, a note pops up on the screen that says it is searching for a GPS signal and to “stand in an open field.” I live in a cul-de-sac with relatively little trees, but I’ve had to wait up to 5 minutes before for a gps signal. The longest I’ve had to wait is about 20 minutes when I was trying to run in a downtown park in a small town. It’s a nice thought that one could just “stand in a field” to get a signal, but it’s very rarely practical.After the GPS signal, the watch has to measure heart rate, which I’ve found also takes several minutes and often is inaccurate as described previously.Most recently, when using the outdoor run workout, I had very inaccurate mile times because when I had to turn around on a street or cul-de-sac, the watch was very delayed in responding to the direction change. It would make my split mile time go down to 15-16 minutes per mile for about a minute before it would normal-out again. When I shared this issue with Coros support, they did send me a firmware update. I’ve run with the watch once since then, and it did seem to work better when I did have to turn around in a relatively small space. However, I still experienced the delays with getting the original GPS/heart rate at the beginning of the workout.Another more minor annoyance is the charge cable is not a standard micro USB, USB C, etc. I recently forgot the charge cable when I went on a snowboard trip and was not able to get a replacement at the local stores.I really wanted to like this device. Coros sponsors some really awesome outdoorsy athletes whom I admire and seemed like a great alternative to the Garmin/Apple options. However, I’ve been so discouraged with this watch, that I’ve just given up on using it for my recent workouts to save myself from the frustration. I’m posting this so that someone else doesn’t make the same mistake I did with my purchase.

Upgraded to the Coros Apex Premium from the Suunto Spartan Sport. As an ultra runner, I needed a watch with a longer battery life and this watch lives up to the hype. I've been using it for nearly a week including running a 50k ultra and the battery life is still at 67%.I bought the 46mm size which is considerably smaller in diameter and height from my Suunto watch, as well as lighter. I'm a woman and this size fits my wrist perfectly. One thing that always bugged me about my Suunto was how tall it sat on my wrist... it would catch my cuff when I went to pull my sleeve back. I don't have that problem with this Coros. It's so comfortable, I've been able to wear it to bed.I wouldn't say the watch is complicated to set up. firmware update frustration

COROS recently updated their firmware, and secretly changed how calories are calculated. This was a major change for me. There was no notification of change in the notes availble before updating firmware. My device has essentially become no more than a very expensive watch for me, and has lost the majority of feature set I valued. I previously loved the device and the company, highly reccomending often. I will not reccomend or purchase another device from COROS at this point. I feel upset and disenchanted with the company's decision to drastically change the product, completely upend my user experience, and not provide any communication about the change until after the fact, with no ability to go back.
