This review is for the 14 inch Flat Bottom Carbon Steel Wok by Craft Wok. This wok is perfect for that special recipe that only a wok can provide. This wok is made from Carbon Steel and measures 14 inches so it can handle the biggest amount of recipe items without any problems. The main handle is solid and is made from wood. The secondary handle is steel. This ensures that the secondary handle will not catch fire as I have seen with other woks. You have to season the wok before your first meal but it only takes a few minutes to coat the wok with oil and heat to high setting. After that, your new wok will be ready to go. You do have to keep it oiled as it may rust without it. I have a history with cast iron with is my primary cooking method. I own a Dutch oven and a 10” pan in the cast iron family. This Wok fits right in my arsenal of cooking. I have a glass electric stove so the heat doesn’t travel the same as you would see in a restaurant using a wok typically. However having a glass top oven is still great when using this Wok. I’ve made ramen with chicken thighs so far in this a few times from being so pleased with the dish the first time using this. The directions really stress to season the wok first. It keeps it from not rusting like your cast iron. I recommend after taking it out of the packing to pour water in it and let it boil. Then dump that water out and wash the wok with a little soap and a rag. it’s important to do this ... MoreI have a history with cast iron with is my primary cooking method. Then dump that water out and wash the wok with a little soap and a rag. it’s important to do this unless like all cast iron you want to taste what seems like motor oil grease. After putting the wok back on the stove I used an old sock and poured about 1/8th cup into a measuring cup. Dab the clean sock into it and while the pot is hot rub the oil into it. It’s important not using too much oil or else it will smoke up the house. The less amount you use the less smoking. It just needs a tiny amount. You’ll know the pot is seasoned when it turns into a reddish brown color. I wipe the inside and out 3 times for the perfect seasoning. It takes longer to boil the water than it does to rub and season the wok which is no time at all. It’s ready to use in less than 10 mins (about 7 for me). The only downfall isn’t even bad which is that it has a wooden handle so it can’t go into the oven. However you can unscrew the handle if you wanted to season it in the oven rather than on the top like I did. Most woks I’ve used had plastic handles which I do not recommend. And the hardware keeping it together is typically not easy to get to. With this wok it’s simple to take apart if you have a screw driver and have the need to do so.

I have started using my Craft Hand-Hammered 14-inch Flat Bottomed Carbon Steel Wok. It is a perfect type of cookware for my stovetop. The wok has instructions on how to season, cook with and maintain the Craft Wok. I start my dish by prepping all of the different ingredients. Some I cut up into pieces roughly the same size. Others I pre-cook. I use separate bowls for each of the ingredients that are the major components of my dish. I start my dish by heating a little high-smoke point oil in the wok, then, adding the ingredients that take the longest to cook. The idea is to take advantage of the Wok’s high-heat quick cooking stir fry style of cooking food. I can prepare a large volume of food, enough for more than one meal, in a short time. The idea is to take advantage of the Wok’s high-heat quick cooking stir fry style of cooking food. I can prepare a large volume of food, enough for more than one meal, in a short time. Each ingredient is cooked to delicious doneness and is hot with a crispy surface. The wok does require care and maintenance to keep it ready for use. I make sure to wash, dry and season it after preparing food in it. To season it is a little time-consuming but considering it is a pan that I can use for years to come, it is well worth the effort.
This is a nicely made 14” wok that is good for stir frying. I like that it is made from carbon steel with a big sturdy wooden handle. It also has a secondary carrying handle on the opposite side so you can lift the wok with both hands. The second handle is essential since this pan has some serious weight to it, and is easily one of the heaviest pans I own. I love that the mfg hasn’t processed the metal with any non stick garbage, so you are truly cooking on raw metal when using this pan. This however means that the metal requires seasoning with oil before and after every use/wash or else it will rust, just like one of grandma’s old cast iron pans. Before using the pan you must “blue” the pan with high heat, which I thought was so cool, however, this of course comes ... MoreThis is a nicely made 14” wok that is good for stir frying. This however means that the metal requires seasoning with oil before and after every use/wash or else it will rust, just like one of grandma’s old cast iron pans. Before using the pan you must “blue” the pan with high heat, which I thought was so cool, however, this of course comes with lots of smoke and smelly burnt oil. This first seasoning was well worth it though because it connected me personally to the pan and I also knew it was done right. The wok has a flat bottom, which I’m not a big fan of, but it is rather small and does give it stability to sit on the stove all on its own without the use of a base. The walls of the pan are nice and tall allowing food the be moved high and away from direct heat when needed. The only real surprise with this wok is the very smooth pan walls. Since the pan is labeled as “hand hammered” I expected the walls of the wok to have minor hammer dings and imperfections which would hold on to the food better. Overall I would say this is a super nice wok, as long as you are willing to maintain it and don’t mind the smooth walls.
I am absolutely impressed with this company’s workmanship. This wok exceeds my expectations. Honestly, I am a novice when it comes to cooking and so I was nervous about having to season the wok ahead of time. The company explained in depth how to do it, making the process more accessible to me. The bowl is beautifully made, and is extra thick- it conveys the heat nicely. The wood handle is also solid, and does a good job keeping the temperature on the handle, reasonable. My food still turned out meh, because I’m learning how to manage the heat and timing, but this wok will make the cooking experience less difficult and more successful. This wok is absolutely perfect for a gift- whether a wedding gift or housewarming gift, it is truly a quality product!
This Craft Wok is a Heavy, HEAVY but quality wok! To keep it in a good usable condition it has to be taken care of. It's care is similar to any cast iron pan, just wash, dry and oil it. That's it. It's bigger than my previous woks. I am very happy with this size. The sides are tall and I can cook so much in this without worrying about flipping something over the edge. The wok heats up evenly, sears and stir fry's perfectly. I will be using this wok at least once a week. This is such a good quality. If not dried and oiled right after use it can rust. But if it rusts, that can be scraped, cleaned and re-seasoned for use.
All you can say is WOW! what a piece of workmanship. Cleaned it up an seasoned per the instructions. This will replace our cast iron skillets in many cases. It's heavy like cast iron but gives you more cooking area. I especially liked the shape where you can easily push some things cooked to add more of another ingredient to cook. It is big and heavy but, that makes it so nice to hold it's heat while cooking. You do not have to keep changing heat level to maintain a steady cooking temperature. This pan will be one of my favorites for cooking. I do a fair amount of Asian cooking and this will meet the challenge with flying colors. The extra handle makes transport easy, a good add from the manufacturer. All things considered, I will give this wok a 10!! a worthwhile ... MoreAll you can say is WOW! what a piece of workmanship. This is the first wok I’ve ever owned but not my first rodeo with having to season something. This is the longest it’s ever taken me though. All in all, it probably took about 45 minutes to completely finish from start to finish but the instructions and QR video led to me to a great, easy to understand video tutorial. This wok cooked evenly and brought new adventure to my stir frys. Cleanup was a breeze and oiled and ready for next time.
I'm in love with this wok! The food we made with it was delicious, and we're excited to try more recipes we discovered. The heating process goes very quickly, and the cooking process goes very fast as well. It requires regular maintenance and cleaning otherwise it can and will damage it resulting in a rusty surface. The handle is perfect, and it's absolutely gorgeous. My favorite thing about the wok is the ease with which it can be handled and moved while cooking. Overall, this is a wonderful item that's now a family favorite.
