For best use, the wok needs to be “Seasoned”. This is a process that involves clean it first with soap and water and then heating it up to a very high temperature with cooking oil on it. Cleanup was easier than expected by putting water in the wok and heating it up while scraping.This is my first wok and I’m impressed and looking forward to learning how to cook more healthy recipes in it. I love how it has so much “wall” space that makes it is easy to stir your meal preparation around without it falling out of the wok.Again, this manufacturer has great advice on the product tag. Some think that woks do not need cleaning. Wrong! This is NOT a black iron skillet. It is more of a refined metal that needs TLC. I have never owned a Wok, but I saw one being used for a variety of different things on a cooking show, and that made me really want one. I have had this Wok for about 2 weeks, and I have fried in it, steamed, boiled foods, and made a massive amount of stir fry. The Wok has excellent heat distribution, so everything just tastes better.The Wok is large, and I have gas burners set on high for pretty much everything I have cooked in it. The Wok is made out of steel, so there is a concern with the pan rusting.The most difficult part is seasoning the Wok the first time for use. I set the egg aside, cleaned the wok and put it back on the stove to add more sesame seed oil and I got that nice little smoking temperature again. I added some diced onions and it seared into a nice brown color. I added some sliced portabella mushrooms and I got that same nice sizzle, sizzle sound from the wok. The wok’s searing and aroma is what I love the most, which helps me to create some amazing meals.I definitely love The Craft 14-Inch Wok. It makes great authentic stir-frying meals that taste so delicious and very mouth-watering, as well as appealing. I just adore this wok!

The Craft Wok is a beautiful cooking instrument made of 14 inches of indestructible high carbon steel. It is so beautifully round that is certainly looks machine pressed and not hand hammered. However, that does not matter since the cooking properties are not dependent on how it was made. The vessel is plain unfinished carbon steel and will definitely need to be seasoned to protect the surface. The art of seasoning is not complicated and should only need to be done once. A good coat of vegetable oil and some cooking should be all the prep that is needed.My favorite way of cooking is to run a very hot wok to quickly sear the protein to develop flavor, followed by a long cook of the vegetables. Finally, combine the ingredients and finish the dish at a medium heat. In any case, you can always use the heat to develop the flavor you want. I should say that this presumes the use of gas heating. An electric range will simply not work in most cases.

But it really was only about 10-15 minutes start to finish. The wok gets verrrrry hot during this process so be sure to have pot holders or gloves at hand to make the process easier and safe. The wooden handle stays cool enough to use but the helper handle is steel and really heats up.Once the steel starts heating up it turns many shades of yellow, rose and blue. By the time it is done it is almost all blue. By far the majority of the one and a half tablespoons of oil rubbed into the interior surface is absorbed. And now it is ready to use!We whipped up a batch of teriyaki stir fry in no time, at a very high temperature, and had no issues with veggies or proteins sticking to the sides. Clean up was fast and easy. Be sure to dry it immediately as it will rust.

I really like this carbon steel wok from Craft Wok. I've had woks before but they seemed flimsy compared to this one, probably why they did not last. This wok is pretty weighty, around 4 1/2 lbs and it feels very sturdy. It's also 14" in diameter so will hold a pretty good amount of whatever it is you are wanting to cook. First thing I did before I removed it from it's plastic covering was to read the instructions. This pan has the protective oil on it and that needs to be removed and the pan needs to be seasoned, just like some other metal cookware. I know also that seasoning maintenance on pans should be a routine process to prevent them from rusting so also will keep up with that. Nice handmade crafted carbon steel wok. The wok arrived in an over sized brown cardboard shipping box, it was well taped for delivery. Once opened there was plenty of brown paper wrapping inside but not covering the wok. There was clear bulk plastic sheeting that was tightly placed over the wok to prevent it from getting damage during transport. There is a long paper collar that is on the front of the wok. It has all the direction on the back side on how to season before using it, proper cleaning, storing and troubleshooting. It is made of quality food grade material making it somewhat heavy and sturdy. The handle is a natural blond style wood product. It is firmly mounted on the wok by a custom piece of metal that is riveted for safety. On the opposite side there is a "C" clamp hook also called a metal loop which is also pressed in with riveting, it is to help the balancing of the wok when using. It could be hung by the clamp when not being used on a pot hanger in the kitchen. I have an older style wok I use on my charcoal barbeque grill for backyard cookouts to cook fresh fish, game and venison meat which requires less oil; instead of cooking indoors. I'm going to replace it with this new one. This would make a great gift for any occasion; it is age specific but non gender.

I love a wok, for so many reasons. It truly is a way of cooking like nothing else, and this wok did not disappoint. Most people are familiar with standard wok cooking, on a gas stove, over fairly high heat. In my house, we eat a ton of Asian inspired dishes, with all types of veggies, and different meats and seafoods. Until I received this wok, I abused my expensive pans on the stove. In addition, we camp and cook a lot outside (grilling). I wanted to see I how this wok would perform on my gas grill that has a high heat/searing burner to see if I had more options for cooking. The wok was awesome on my gas grill, which opens a whole new way of cooking on the grill for me. I am not a wimp by any means, and any lifting of the wok took two hands and some muscle to do. I don’t remember my old wok being that heavy. I have used it for other things also. I forgot my big pan camping last weekend because I focused on getting the wok in, so I made bacon in the wok. It was easy, cooked quick and crisped up nicely.
