Before SoundBlaster, I used a Votrax unit, but it was severely limited in function. Then came the SoundBlaster card that I added to my 386 computer and Wow! the sound was good! Ever since then I have added an audio card to my computer builds because I do a lot of work with music and need an easy way to do it. Over the years they have incorporated MIDI, XLR, FireWire, USB and various other modalities of music transfer to their units so that I can use my keyboard (or other musical instrument) to send a signal direct to the computer with no latency and a clean sound. The AE7 has a Hi-res PCI-e DAC, Headphone Bi-amp and audio at 32-bit / 384 kHz PCM and DSD64 Playback. Audiophile, pure and simple. That is why I am willing to add the SoundBlaster Audio card to my system.

I needed this card so I could output 5.1 channel compressed audio over the SPFID out. This allows me to play my home theatre pc with 5.1 surround sound. This is exactly what I needed to fully utilize my system. Easy install, sounds great, didn't have to spend a lot of time fighting windows 10.

I added this to a Alienware Desktop that was already fairly tricked out. I did this due to the fact I didn't think the sound output was as good as it should be on my Adam professional monitors using the integrated sound card. The difference wasn't just good, it was amazing. Tighter bass, smoother midrange and better defined highs. I expected a difference, but wasn't expecting such a huge difference. Plus the mic on the controller is handy for business conference calls.

I had an already relatively highend onboard audio setup with my Z490 Aorus Master motherboard but I switched to this AE-7 to pair with my DT770 80 ohms and all I can say is "Wow!". The highs are crisper, the bass rattles the whole headset and the sound stage is so much wider. I absolutely recommend this sound card to anyone that is serious about good headphones and gaming.
I had a SB-Zx prior to this which I bought when I put together my new build. After putting this in I noticed sounds were "clearer" of sorts. Maybe it was creative's crystalizer software or maybe it was the jump to a better physical soundcard build quality, but going from an older, simpler logitech 5.1 setup to a logitech z906 definitely let me sit and hear differences in audio quality. I'm no audiophile, but I do have a thing for sound quality in the games I play and I things are just better with this soundcard for a lack of appropriate words.Plus, a nephew of mine has expressed interest to his mom about having a computer and with that I had reason to buy a new toy and give him my old soundcard. Figured I'd buy myself something nice and give him the older but ... MoreI had a SB-Zx prior to this which I bought when I put together my new build. I upgraded from the ae-5 to this because I didn’t need the overkill stuff on the ae-9. The ae-7 is essentially the same thing as the ae-9 card wise, the difference is the desktop unit which I didn’t need. These capacitors and shielding are upgrades of the ae-5. In turn you get better interference reduction and higher dba output. Sound playback at 32bit 384khz in direct mode using source material or from master versions in tidal using exclusive mode allowing the card to do the decoding, is the BEST sound you will find from a sound card on the market. Games and movies sound phenomenal when left in native 5.1, even on a headset. There is no rgb, but the name lights up in plain white, which in my opinion matches the brushed aluminum appearance just fine. I’d buy this ... I have had a sound card in every single PC I have built; and Creative has always been my “go-to” for quality products and sound when it comes to gaming PCs. I do not like gaming with headphones and use a surround sound setup on my gaming PC, so I am in a somewhat niche setup for “gaming sound” these days. Motherboard sound has always sounded terrible to me, no matter how many times or on how many different setups I try it on. I moved my old Creative Sound Blaster Z to my entertainment PC for the optical out for DTS and movies; so I needed a replacement sound card for my main gaming PC with solid hardware components and good software. I decided to go with this card because I have it paired with a Logitech Z906 5.1 surround sound speaker setup over the analog signal wiring (Optical has a slight delay so I do not use it for gaming). This sound card has much improved sound over my older Sound Blaster Z and the audio positioning using a 5.1 speaker setup is very good. Music sounds great as well. Of course, sound is so subjective to the individual listening to it; but I am very happy with the quality of this product. Sound blaster’s new software is so much nicer than the old versions and setting up this card with great sound between gaming and music was a very easy task.If looks are also your thing with PCs, this sound card looks very nice in a darker motherboard setup (which I have). The lighting is not a distraction and the graphite look of the card is nice.Worth noting; I do have this in an X570 motherboard with a 5950x CPU using PCIe 4.0 on my RTX 3090. After the latest BIOS patches, I do NOT have any of the channel swapping; sound stopping, card disconnecting, etc. issues that so many have reported over the last year or so (I had them originally as well earlier in the year on both my SBXz and this card). At least for me, all these issues were resolved shortly after I bought this new sound card with a Bios update on my motherboard. From my understanding, this was not on creatives end.
This is a very good card, sound is great and works really fine with Windows 10, no need to get weird third party drivers or do some tricks to install, as the Audigy 2ZS requires nowadays. I did a direct comparison between this card and the Audigy 2ZS. Left both on system, just changed the sound source from one to another, listening on my Logitech Z-5500 and Hyper X Cloud Core. This card works better after installing the "Command Center" and drivers from Creative. The difference in sound quality from the Audigy 2ZS is not as big as from an onboard to a dedicated, but it was there. A little bit crunchier on the high notes, somewhat denser on the lower, general perception is of quality. I'd recommend to anyone looking for this update. Oh yeah, this card is definitely ... Oh yeah, this card is definitely much prettier than the Audigy 2ZS and the "lights" on it are dim. It will get seen but will not "light up your case". I find this as a plus, some may like more vivacity.
This sound card is awesome! I don't say that very often but this deserves a awesome. If your ears have only heard onboard sound then you need to try a dedicated sound card. The difference is night and day. Sound Blaster has been around for decades, they were the standard for sound cards back when computer gaming was in its infancy. The price tag may be steep for some but if you like good sound then you owe it to yourself and get this package.
the mic doesnt work half the time and i wasnt even aware it had one until last month, which is about 5 months after i bought it. the description doesnt say anything about it and its been too long for me to return it so now i have a $200 broken product that im forced to keep.some days it works fine and other days it doesnt recieve any sound at all. discord says its recieving SOMETHING but nothing is played back. something isnt right
