It \"MEASURES THE MAT\" after you load it, even though I've told it what size mat I'm feeding into it. IT KNOWS WHAT SIZE THE MAT IS, WHY DOES IT NEED TO MEASURE IT?You have to WAIT for it to finish measuring the mat before you can hit the start button and walk away. This leaves you standing there, wasting time, screwing up your work flow. I just don't get it.If you plan to use the \"smart materials\", maybe this machine is what you want. But no one running a small business is going to be using smart materials, it's too expensive and bad for profit margins.I returned the Maker 3 immediately and purchased an \"open box\" Maker. I am very worried that the original Maker will be discontinued and I'll eventually be forced to deal with this machine.I also would like to mention that it is incredibly misleading for Cricut to advertise this machine as being faster. It's also clear to me that these machines are made to be disposable. You can't fix them. You can't buy parts for them. In 3 years I've had two Makers die and I really don't abuse them at all. It's gross to think of the machines that get thrown into the landfill because they become useless after two years of use. It's maddening! CRICUT, I WISH YOU CARED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT MORE.There were a plethora of other small infuriating differences with this machine but I have already given this too much of my time. Don't buy this machine, buy the original maker. But be prepared to have to replace it in 18 months.

I made a replica of the LA skyline but replaced the buildings with my friends names and stuck it around a glass candle bowl as a gift to a friend who was leaving town and I couldn't believe it managed to cut palm trees on the skyline which had trunks which were literally the same size as this letter I. BTW transfer paper allows you to take off and place stickers perfectly. I'm new to the cutting world and super excited as I also found a color printer for $60 on ebay so now I can laser print in color and cut on all kinds of materials! I can't talk about the previous versions, however this one is very good. I'd guess the version 2 would also be very good if you are on a budget ... MoreI've used this a few times to cut vinyl and have been very impressed with how well it cuts. Something was wrong with the balance of the bar/blade. Cricut replaced it quickly. However, when I received the replacement, I am still having many of the issues I was having with first one that I assumed was due to the defect. I have not/do not use the Smart products. I am thinking that that is probably why I am experiencing so many issues. The machine does not cut basic card stock. It is either not hard enough or shreds the paper (I have replaced the blade) I can not get it to do a basic kiss cut on sticker paper. I have tried many settings on many materials and it is only good for cutting thick material at 100lbs. Even then it requires some punch out. Even with the thicker cardstock I can not always get good clean cuts, it's jagged and inconsistent. Again, I am thinking this machine is made more for the new Smart material and not for the original mats and variety of (non-Cricut) materials. I run a small business and have found it to be a waste of money, material and time. I am still using my Explore Air3, as I was not able to get the Maker 3s to perform basic projects. I came to the reviews to see how others' experiences were and it seems I am not alone. If this machine works well primarily with the Smart material it should be represented that way. I would have bought an upgrade to the Explore Air2, not a Maker 3. If you're reading these reviews prior to your purchase, good thinking....I strongly suggest you not purchase this one. I am a long time customer of Cricut and think they really got this one so very wrong. I am an experienced crafter and it saddens me to think of all the new crafters this machine may discourage because it doesn't do the basics. I purchased the first of the two Maker 3 a little more than a month ago and I am giving up now. It's just worthless.

As I write this review, it is mid April 2022 and received this as a gift for Christmas 2021. I was super intimidated on having to learn how to use Design Space and program a whole machine to do what I wanted on whatever product. It does take practice, patience, and some youtube videos. There was a time when I did call customer service in which they have the patience with exceptional customer service. The moment the issue was resolved for some reason I felt I had Design Space and the machine figured out. Not trying to gas it up and all but this motivated/ helped me in all packaging and presentation of my upcoming small business. My 3 stars are mostly for what I think the Maker 3 can be, not what it is at the moment. I have an Explore Air 2 which I love and wanted the Maker for cutting basswood and chipboard. The first machine I received was actually faulty, I noticed immediately it was very noisy and clunky when the mechanism was moving. I couldn’t cut any thick materials with the knife blade until a software update fixed the problem and I had a few successful cuts. However this stopped working and I took my machine back for a replacement.Hobbycraft were incredibly helpful and accommodating in the exchange process and I’d give them 5 stars! The new machine is much quieter and works better but it still has a major issue of not cutting anything other than very basic circular shapes out of ... MoreMy 3 stars are mostly for what I think the Maker 3 can be, not what it is at the moment. THEIR OWN WOOD, shreds completely and is worthless by the end. Yes I used the right mat and settings. Yes I calibrated my knife, no it didn’t work. Machine - Awesome. Software - THE WORST.
8 December 2021

The Maker 3 itself is pretty incredible. It can do a million things, it's incredibly easy and user friendly, setup is quick, all around a fantastic machine. HOWEVER, in order to use the machine, you have to go through Design Space, a god-forsaken piece of software that should NEVER have been released to the public. I've only had my Maker 3 for about a month and I have spent more time on the phone with Cricut support than I can even begin to describe and half the issues never got fixed. I got this machine specifically to make stickers and I am currently unable to do so due to a \"technical issue\" that \"may take quite some time to resolve with our tech team\". I wouldn't bother buying a machine until they can rectify the issues with the software, which, based on my conversations with support, might be a few years.

Wonderful, fun machine!
9 July 2022

The cricut maker 3 is exactly what I wanted from a multi-purpose die cut machine. Already owned a Cricut Joy that is a wonderful little machine but the maker does a lot more and can cut a lot more materials from vinyl to leather to wood. It also cuts very quickly and effortlessly; allowing for less time cutting and more time crafting!I love how intuitive and easy it is to use. Combined with a Cricut Access subscription. It is the perfect machine for the serious crafter/ small business owner!
