The so-called Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SODIMMs) with 204 contacts are a special form used for DDR3 memory modules in laptops and other computer platforms with limited space. To use DDR3 memory, your system requires a 204-contact SODIMM slot and a chipset with DDR3 support. DDR3 SODIMMs do not fit into DDR2 or DDR slots. SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than conventional DIMMs, and the 204-contact SODIMM PCBs are always about 6.60 cm long and usually about 3.00 cm high (the height may vary slightly). They consist of several memory components (usually black) that are applied to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on the printed circuit boards of the SODIMMs with 204 contacts may vary, but the modules always have 102 contacts each on the front and back, i.e. a total of 204. The gold contacts on the SODIMM bottom side connect the memory module to the corresponding slot.
