First powered ice cream maker for me. Like - makes more than a quart, simple mechanism (expect it won't break) and quite easy to clean. If you follow good practice of chilling the bowl overnight in the freezer and chilling the mixture you want to freeze in the fridge for a reasonable time then in 20 minutes your ice cream or sorbet is ready (or whatever else you want to freeze).

Ice cream didn't thicken in 20 minutes; stayed soupy with just a few ice crystals. I followed all the directions. I put the soupy mix in freezer overnight (transferred to a different container). It was firmer but full of ice crystals the next day.I used Sur La Table vanilla bean ice cream starter. I'll try again with my own recipe and see if that makes a difference. If not, I'm returning it.I was surprised that there wasn't a troubleshooting section in the instruction manual.

I have an older model of this machine and it is fantastic! This is one "gadget" that I really do use! It's very simple to use and cleanup is a breeze. The freezer bowl, cover and "paddle" are simple to wash. Please note that freezing the bowl for the first time (or if it has become completely defrosted) will take several days. Thereafter, the bowl should refreeze overnight. If you like ice cream, I recommend buying an extra freezer bowl. This way, you can make two batches one after the other. While the freezer bowl doesn't defrost a whole lot while making ice cream, it does defrost a bit while washing it. So if you want to make another batch of ice cream the same day, another freezer bowl is needed. And the price is great!
Easy to use. Just follow directions and then add your favorite flavors for an unlimited variety of ice cream and yogurt treats. Without unhealthy additives you get with commercial fare. A lot of fun to use.
This was my first ice cream maker purchase ever and I am very happy with my purchase! The machine itself works well and produces a great product. I placed the canister in the freezer for about 36 hours just to make sure that it was frozen all the way through and really cold. The only minor issue that I had was that it's kind of loud, but the good out ways the bad!!
It works beautifully. I make many varieties of ice cream all year around. Because I may want to make ice cream at a moments notice and had not put the cylander in the freezer ahead of time, I bought a second cylander to keep in the freezer all the time. I also bought several of the insulated containers to keep the ice cream in.
I got this particular ice cream maker because it was a little cheaper and some of the staff at my Sur La Table have it and like it.In the 3 weeks I've owned it I have made strawberry sorbet, mixed berry sorbet, and peach sorbet. They all had the bright tangy flavors you expect and received many compliments. My basic recipe is 4 cups pureed and strained fruit , 1 cup sugar and a teaspoon or two of lemon juice.I have also made the recipes in the book for vanilla and chocolate ice creams. And last time we did an add-in of kit kat minis. They all were very rich and good. And SO easy. You have to plan ahead because you want the bowl frozen (overnight), the mix very cold (1-2 hrs.), and it's nice to put the finished product in the freezer for a little firming up. But if you want kids to have the fun of making it before a meal you can put it in the machine for them to watch and then tuck it in the freezer. It will be ready for dessert. So it's fun if you have kids visiting.
Good ice cream maker, you do have to keep the churning tub in the freezer OR remember to put it in the freezer 24hrs in advance of use. I would say that is the only drawback. Ice cream is fantastic!
I bought this ice cream maker on sale in May. I've used it a handful of times since and always thought two things: how quickly the mix churns into ice cream and ""Should it be making this much noise?"".The bowl sets up well before the suggested 24 hour period in the freezer, which is handy for next day use. I've also thrown the ""need to refrigerate the mix"" suggestion out and made it with refrigerated ingredients - it still comes together in 30 minutes or less. Then comes the downside: I had romantic visions of secretly whipping up ice cream during a dinner party to surprise guests. The noise from this machine (a growl to a low roar) can be heard well past the kitchen, extinguishing my plans.Verdict: For the price, it is a functional and timely ice cream ... MoreI bought this ice cream maker on sale in May.
