Ascente Violin set

I have found Ascente strings to be a wonderful discovery, both for tone, playability, and price. I am particularly fond of the G and D with the Monel winding which gives a warm, responsive lower end, and the A has a ringing tone with great sustain. They blend well with the Warchal Amber E, also, if you like that warmer, more flexible E. Michael's review mentioned that they have a somewhat nasal tone, which I noticed as well, but that has lessened after a couple of weeks of playing. Great tuning stability, as advertised, and I believe these strings are more than just "beginner" strings, and are worth a try.

I have a 1909 German(?) factory violin (L. Korschat) that has a wonderful tone, but have struggled to find strings that all balance out, particularly with the G string, until I tried the Ascente set. I am amazed at the result, the Ascente G string sounding now like a mini cello, and maintains tone in higher positions. All the strings are balanced, with great ringing overtones. I did replace the e string with a Helicore wound e, which I prefer. These strings are well worth trying. I have ordered 2 more sets to try on my other violins, too.

Beautiful and versatile
23 November 2018

I don't want to raise anyone's expectations, but personally, the quality of these strings is amazing. They produce a beautiful sound, the e string DOESN'T squeak (as promised) and most importantly, they are versatile. I used a cheap old abused bow (which I last applied rosin to probably about a year ago) on these strings, and they didn't fail to hide all of the defects of my bow by themselves. At least from my point of view, these strings are amazing. It was definitely worth my time and money.

Bum A and D strings.
30 January 2021

The set really improved the sound of my violin, except for the A and D strings. When depressing the third or fourth finger in first position or playing in the third position, it sounded broken up. I emailed Fiddlershop, and they were gracious in selling me a set of Fiddlerman strings for half price. I am happy with the replacement set.

Ascente strings are very good value. Although they use a monel alloy winding on the D and G, this seems to be a very good substitute for silver/aluminium and produces good tone (on the A, the usual aluminium is used). Moreover, the strings seem to last well. Recommended as an "economy" but good quality string.

Great Student option
25 May 2020

Great strings for a student in their 2nd or 3rd year of playing. Competitively priced with other strings of similar quality. These strings didn't take very long to settle which is a bonus for students so they aren't having to battle with an instrument constantly going out of tune. Not warm enough for my tastes for more advanced students, but definitely an option for students still developing their playing skills.

I thought that I had reached seventh heaven when I decided to try the Thomastic dominant strings but after a while having found a store near by that use to sell them I found that the E on the dominants sounded off like it was never really matched to the set.Having purchased a new instrument last March I knew even though it was a new instrument I would have to replace the steel core strings which were only useful for helping me to get my bridge set up.I had listen to these in a a Fiddler man video which did not rate the string real high I however have to disagree after putting these strings on my cheap $118.00 violin and tuning them I played for only about 15 minutes before I had to put the instrument back in the case and walk away trying to wrap my head around the ... MoreI thought that I had reached seventh heaven when I decided to try the Thomastic dominant strings but after a while having found a store near by that use to sell them I found that the E on the dominants sounded off like it was never really matched to the set.Having purchased a new instrument last March I knew even though it was a new instrument I would have to replace the steel core strings which were only useful for helping me to get my bridge set up.I had listen to these in a a Fiddler man video which did not rate the string real high I however have to disagree after putting these strings on my cheap $118.00 violin and tuning them I played for only about 15 minutes before I had to put the instrument back in the case and walk away trying to wrap my head around the the tone these strings had produced.Maybe its me I don't know but I've never played an instrument in person that sounded so clean accurate and balanced all I know is as of 20 minutes before writing this review had to order 2 more sets,if I get the same effect from my intermediate violin then I will have to call this one a hit out of the ball park by D'addario.I've been using the the first set since either early April or late March of 2019 and they are still carrying a well balanced tone and the E string actually sounds like it belongs with the set in other words it sounds well matched. To be fair I'm no pro I've only been playing for 8 years but never have I sounded like or been able to produce the sound that I've gotten from this particular set of strings I was literally shocked.

My first strings
13 July 2020

Having no prior experience, these seem like great starting strings. I started violin on June 12 and decided I wanted to try out synthetic core strings after removing the poor quality strings my violin (not from Fiddlershop) came with. They seem to stay in tune reasonably well, though I can’t speak much for the tone as I am a beginner. The E string likes to whistle, which is probably in significant part an issue of my playing. Overall good service and good product.

recommended strings, easy on fingers.
2 August 2020

Good strings. They are not as loud as other strings can be. I noticed something about them, I think the ascente strings are good at bringing out the natural sound of the violin they are on. They are soft and feel good on the fingers. I recommend replacing the E string with another, but it will work. They hold tune really well. Seems like not as much tension is needed to bring them into tune.
