Daiwa BG MQ 14000-H Spinning Reel
Daiwa is proud to introduce the next generation of BG spinning reels to saltwater anglers of all stripes, this time with a one-piece Monocoque aluminum body. Light and strong like a Formula One racing car, the reels are lighter and stronger through use of monocoque body technology. In terms of application, the reels are designed for everything from inshore to heavy offshore fishing with models like the BGMQ2500D-H perfect for speckled trout to models like the BGMQ20000 designed to withstand the pressures of fishing giant bluefin tuna. With the Monocoque design, the reel body serves as a stiff and distortion-proof frame, which is handy and compact at the same time. If offers more rigidity, more stability, and bigger gears. The Water Resistance is superb and Monocoque body offers more power and torque as a result. The reels also feature an all-aluminum frame and features Digigear technology. Compared to most of the competition, the gears are between 20% to 40% larger. The gears also feature a larger tooth pattern, giving the gears a much longer gear life and durability than competitive reels. Tests reveal a gear life that is one to three times the length of competitive reels.

Fantastic reel. Smooth as butter. Worth every penny. Would have thought such quality would cost more. Before I bought this I must have researched at least 30 reels.

Beautiful reel, both to look at and to use. I use mine (the 3000 model) for inshore saltwater fishing, and to date they have handled 20-pound fish with no problem. Nicest drag I have ever used!

Picked up this reel as a replacement for a bass pro saltwater reel I had to trash after less than a year. Locked up and I didn't feel like dealing with it. That said, this BG is one of the smoothest casting reels I've used on a 7 foot crowder rod. I have the 4500. Landed a big bass, drag was butter, landed a 30in snook, the drag alone could have earned this review. The line capacity is great. I fish 15lb test braid and I'm pretty sure I have 270yd + backing. So I decided to test the durability. I went wading in the surf and then on the kayak, let it sit in the sun for a few days, took it back out on kayak. Dunked it in the sand and the waves surf casting, dried it out for a few days, still as smooth as out of the box. Well Done diawa. Will update once I finally shut ... MorePicked up this reel as a replacement for a bass pro saltwater reel I had to trash after less than a year. Locked up and I didn't feel like dealing with it. I purchased this reel to try something different. I own shimano, Penn, tsunamis, vanstaal, and other Daiwa reels and I must say this is definitely one of the most refined reels I’ve had the pleasure of using. It has the reliability as the original BG but better built, way lighter, and better sealed. It can takes light splashes but I wouldn’t dunk it or reel under water, that’s what the VS is for. Still an awesome reel all around and I would recommend this reel if your in the twoish hundred dollar range of spending. Definitely light enough to cast for hours without getting fatigued. The drag on MQ is also buttery smooth and can handle just about anything. If you are looking to get a solid and reliable reel for under $250, this is it.
Ordered the BG MQ 4000 and set it up on my lamiglass inshore black rod. Perfect pairing, reel is light and tight. Also fast shipping!! Will buy again from The mighty fish!
Absolutely love my Saltist 2500, it goes well with my TDBlack Wicked Weasel Rod.It's an absolute pleasure dealing with Ocean Storm Fishing Tackle. Very easy and informative website and superfast delivery to QLD even with covid lockdown. I previously lived in Shellharbour and Ocean Storm is my go to shop. Thank you for fantastic service.
Have been super happy with these reels. We've landed some nice sharks on these and they have more than enough drag for that application. Nice and smooth and feels well-built. I've also got a couple Shimano Saragosa reels in a similar size and they handle just about the same.
The BG MQ 14000- H Diawa reel is my favourite reel. It's light weight of 650grams is an easy reel to hold and matches well with my Diawa 10foot 3inch Seajigger surf rod. It has a beautiful smooth action and the larger spool allows plenty of braid in the event of a big run from a large fish. I rate this equal, if not better, than my 10000 Saragosa.
Initial impression is outstanding. Beefy and solid yet smooth as butter. Can’t wait to get it on my 10’ 6” Daiwa Coastal SP. Feels like it will pull in big fish with ease.
this reel is very tough and strong. I use this reel for fighting monster snook and grouper out from around rocks and bridges. i fish 3-5 days a week and this reel is still as smooth as the first day i bought it and i put it under extreme pressure when fighting big fish. have caught several 100lb goliath grouper with this reel
