I matched this reel with a 6’6†medium weight Shimano Trevala and 40lb braid. It effortlessly handles those times when I hooked Jack in the 15-20 pound range and some large cubera snapper (I fish in Costa Rica and there’s some big jack here and cubera here). It’s also lightweight so really no strain with this size real. I have been using it with jigs between 60g-200g no problem.I liked the design so much I ordered an 8000 to go with a medium heavy Shimano Trevala for deeper jigging.Save your money on those real expensive reels. Buy more jigs instead. You’ll need them.

Beautiful reel, both to look at and to use. I use mine (the 3000 model) for inshore saltwater fishing, and to date they have handled 20-pound fish with no problem. Nicest drag I have ever used!

Picked up this reel as a replacement for a bass pro saltwater reel I had to trash after less than a year. Locked up and I didn't feel like dealing with it. That said, this BG is one of the smoothest casting reels I've used on a 7 foot crowder rod. I have the 4500. Landed a big bass, drag was butter, landed a 30in snook, the drag alone could have earned this review. The line capacity is great. I fish 15lb test braid and I'm pretty sure I have 270yd + backing. So I decided to test the durability. I went wading in the surf and then on the kayak, let it sit in the sun for a few days, took it back out on kayak. Dunked it in the sand and the waves surf casting, dried it out for a few days, still as smooth as out of the box. Well Done diawa. Will update once I finally shut ... MorePicked up this reel as a replacement for a bass pro saltwater reel I had to trash after less than a year. Locked up and I didn't feel like dealing with it. I purchased this reel to try something different. I own shimano, Penn, tsunamis, vanstaal, and other Daiwa reels and I must say this is definitely one of the most refined reels I’ve had the pleasure of using. It has the reliability as the original BG but better built, way lighter, and better sealed. It can takes light splashes but I wouldn’t dunk it or reel under water, that’s what the VS is for. Still an awesome reel all around and I would recommend this reel if your in the twoish hundred dollar range of spending. Definitely light enough to cast for hours without getting fatigued. The drag on MQ is also buttery smooth and can handle just about anything. If you are looking to get a solid and reliable reel for under $250, this is it.
Great reel. I use a 4000 stradic side by side and they are pretty even. The BG is pretty powerful for a little reel. have already landed a 66cm kingy on PE1 with a 3-6kg rod. Recommend! only thing i don’t like is the line clip on the reel is a bit fiddly compared to other reels. Otherwise super light, powerful looks great spins up very easy. See how it handles the saltwater over time.
Absolutely love my Saltist 2500, it goes well with my TDBlack Wicked Weasel Rod.It's an absolute pleasure dealing with Ocean Storm Fishing Tackle. Very easy and informative website and superfast delivery to QLD even with covid lockdown. I previously lived in Shellharbour and Ocean Storm is my go to shop. Thank you for fantastic service.
Initial impression is outstanding. Beefy and solid yet smooth as butter. Can’t wait to get it on my 10’ 6” Daiwa Coastal SP. Feels like it will pull in big fish with ease.
I have used this reel about a half dozen times for surf casting (in the surf). It gets splashed quite a bit. But, I rinse it gently after use and spray silicon lub on the roller hearing etc. I think it is one of my sturdiest of my reels. The drag is nicely adjustable. I also have a 6000 version that I like. The only downside is the big mq s are a bit heavy.
This reel is nice and heavy. Solid build and quite big. Think of holding a cantaloupe in your hands, weight and all. That's what this reel is like. I have this paired with a surf rod and can't wait to test it out. 5/5 met all my expectations. Fast shipping!
this reel is very tough and strong. I use this reel for fighting monster snook and grouper out from around rocks and bridges. i fish 3-5 days a week and this reel is still as smooth as the first day i bought it and i put it under extreme pressure when fighting big fish. have caught several 100lb goliath grouper with this reel
