I learned to cast a with a baitcaster/conventional with this real and it was great. I had only experience with spinning gear prior to this real and the mag casting controls made it easy.

I just got the lexa 400 pwr p, and it's a little bigger than I thought! But it palms a little easier than my Abu round reels! The shape is different, but palms about the same! I thought the weight might be a little to much, but after casting it for a couple hours, it didn't feel that bad! I can cast baits as low as 1/2 oz. which is impressive for big reel like this! The retrieve is smooth, the drag is really strong! Loaded it with twenty pound mono! Haven't caught any Stripers yet, but I'm sure this reel can handle the biggest and baddest Stripers around! Whether or not I can, well that's different story!

I bought this for casting for Muskys, and I am very happy with it. It casts really far and really smooth with negligible problems with spool overrun The drag sets easily, and the gear system is superb, handling even the toughest Musky. For the money, this is the best value I have ever found in a Musky reel, and I can use it for many other kinds of fishing as well.

I love fishing this reel with the smaller surface irons as well as stick baits when targeting California yellowtail and other pelagics. It’s makes it a breeze to fish straight spectra with a short topshot. Awesome price too!
I needed a jigging reel and after watching the Shimano Waxwing video, I was almost sold on the Tranx, until I went down to look at it and learned about the Lexa 400 with the Power Handle. It's basically the same reel for HALF the price. So I put 65# PowerPro on it with a 40# Topshot and went out on a Yellowtail trip and landed a 26lber with ease!!! The drag performed beautifully and was steady all around. The gear ratio makes it easy to reel the jig in quickly for the Yellows to bite and boy it did. And having the level wind on it is almost like cheating. This reel makes fishing fun.
Smooth long casts and a very strong drag. Holds about 330 yards of 50lb braid. Caught a 35lb bluefin tuna this summer and the drag never failed. Took a little bit longer to fight but it was fun!
Got this reel for Alaska and set it up at home. Cast a 3/4 oz castmaster lure with 30 lb. braid over100 yards the first cast. So smooth and just feels right in hand. Here we go!
I have not been a big fan of Diawa baitcasters in the past due to a bad experience with one a long time ago. I was looking for a bait casting reel for snook and decided to give Diawa another shot. Man am I glad I did. I loved the 300hd so much that I bought the 400hd as well. These reels cast a mile and retrieve like butter.I mainly use these reels for snook and the 400 for big snook under bridges. The drag is rated up to like 25lbs and is extremely smooth. I can’t say enough about these reels as they are phenomenal. If purchasing the 400 make sure you put it on the rod you will be using it on because the reel foot is bigger than the 300 size. I have my 300 on a 7” MH X fast Teramar and my 400 is on a 7”6 HF Teramar. I originally bought a St Croix 7”6 HF Avid Inshore for my 400 but my reel didn’t seat well so I had a custom rod maker put a bigger reel seat on the rod.If you are on the fence you can’t go wrong with these reels. The 300hd was probably big enough for 80% of my fishing but I liked having the extra line capacity on the 400hd for big snook & tarpon
I bought this reel for the start of rockfish season, and it has served me extremely well. I've caught a jackpot rockfish with this reel, and it didn't break. In fact, it is so well made and well crafted that I was able to reel in, albeit lose a MASSIVE lingcod. The feel of the reel is so nice, as well. It feels really comfortable when I palm the reel, and the power handle is very comfortable. I do wish that there are more left handed options, as well as lower gear ratios for this version of the Lexa. I take immense care of this reel, even though the reel is stainless steel, because it deserves that respect.
This is fast and left handed ,most important for salmon netting from kayak, even deep drops on lings, and a push button clutch for bottom contact ,it's the best choice for the ocean!
