Better than normal gloves

I had originally purchased the glove (non-mitten) version of this mitten. Since that they were thick (because they're meant for the coldest of conditions), they were too time consuming to put back on every time I had taken them off. These mittens are much easier to put back on; they simply slide right on. No more trying to mash your fingers back into the finger tips of the glove. These are also, of course, warmer, since they're mittens and have less surface area for the cold to get to your fingers.

Comfortable and warm, just a little snug

The inner glove is comfortable and easy to slip on. I like that I can still operate my phone with them on. They've already started to pill so a little disappointed with them. The outer mitt is warm and resists moisture well. I find it a bit snug to slip on the mitt with the inner glove on. Overall happy with the mitt but could use some small adjustments.

If it wasn't for the comfortable good fit and warm below zero with the insert, I'd probably rate this a 2. The so called nose wipe panel has a long miniature ice scraper edge sewn into the top side of the left thumb. When cold it's very hard. I didn't notice it since it's the same colour as the fabric and ended up scratching my face. IMHO this is a serious design flaw. I'm now forced to be conscious of the risk when I bring my left thumb to my face.

Excellent winter ready gear
21 December 2021

The Dakine Titan short Gore-Tex gloves are excellent. Fit is true to the size chart. It comes with a liner glove too. Worn together, it was tight and I struggled at the beginning to get a good clench, but after further use, either my hands adapted or the glove stretched/softened, so that improved. Warmth being subjective, I felt wearing with the liner was too warm when it was below freezing. The liner has a tacky palm, fingers and thumb pattern that is good. On its own, this isn't the warmest but adequate for a short time outside and with no wind. The main/shell glove itself is an excellent piece of winter gear. Warm, yet roomy enough to flex when you need to grip, the left thumb has a hard plastic bar while the right is fleecy. Unfussy velcro wrist tabs are easy to operate and quite quick to do. The external and inside materials for both liner and shell feel premium and tough. The assembly and sewing are what really stand out as the quality of it comes through there.

Feature Packed
2 March 2023

SUPER versatile mittens. Dakine always seems to pack in all the features at a great price and the titan mitts are no different. Mitten -- Check. Inner glove liner with touch sensitive pads -- Check. Goggle wipe -- Check. Nose Wipe -- Check. Cinch-able long cuff -- Check. I literally can't think of a feature other mittens have that this doesn't.My only complaint is that they don't seem to be quite warm enough for the coldest days. I find myself needing to blow into my hands when the temps drop below 15. I'll probably just keep some hand warms that I can toss into ... oh yeah a top pocket in the mitten for smaller items -- Check.

Good features and poor construction
15 January 2023

Dakine mitts are basically disposable in my mind, but this pair (my first leather palmed ones of about 5 titans in the past 6-8 years) was particulary disappointing. On day one, the cuff cinch, a bit of leather at the end of the elastic strap, seperated. So I had to tie it in a knot to make it work. Functional enough fix but after only like 3 pulls, I was miffed. I buy these mitts because they're gore-tex and have a squeegee on the thumb, which I need for the Mt. Hood winters in the wet PNW. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't bother. I also like the nose wipe, general design, and mid-weight warmth. So I'll keep buying them. On sale. Because they're throw-aways. I have a whole tupperware full of random L/Rs from the survivors of all the pairs that never last more then ... MoreDakine mitts are basically disposable in my mind, but this pair (my first leather palmed ones of about 5 titans in the past 6-8 years) was particulary disappointing. Nice mittens. Comes with liner.
10 December 2022

It's running 0-5C now here in Toronto and my hands are fine but I wouldn't say they are toasty. But I'm starting to think my fingers are actually icicles so idk.The leather is not capacitive, if that's why you are considering this version but did not read the description too well. The index and thumb of the liner gloves are. So you have to remove the mitten to use it. Can be tightened around the wrists but doing it with a mittened hand is cumbersome. The small pocket on the outside mitten is great but I wish it was a bit larger. The leashes are a bit awkward to keep on since they are long. You have to stuff it inside the glove or they'll be swinging around, taking care to place the bead such that it isn't uncomfortable. But not really a big deal.

Nice set of ski gloves for a reasonable price.
22 December 2021

Very nice set of gloves. I like the fact that they come with a removable liner glove, and that the liner is touchscreen compatible on the index finger and thumb. It would be nice if the inner liner actually attached to the outer glove with velcro at the cuff or by some other means, the way my older REI gloves did. With these gloves it is difficult to keep the liner and glove together and most times you end up removing the glove and liner separately. The hand warmer pocket is a nice feature my other gloves do not have. The little squeegee on the thumb to wipe goggles might be useful if you have the large frameless goggles, but I found it essentially useless on smaller goggles with a plastic frame. They do seem waterproof and windproof and well made. They are ... MoreVery nice set of gloves. I was hoping they would be warmer than my previous ski gloves, but they are about the same, and my fingers did occasionally feel a bit cold on the lifts in high-teens, low-20s temperatures.

Thumbs are tight! Even on XXL size
8 January 2022

These seem like good quality but even the XXL is TIGHT on my thumbs! I think they'll be cold as a result of the tight fit. That's why I gave them only 2 stars. Haven't worn them for XC skiing yet so can only review based on try on at home.Very disappointing that the cut of the thumbs and the materials used makes them tight!I bought these specifically for a winter trip to Yellowstone NP where temps may drop to -30 F; tight mittens are not going to work well!If you're going to make a XXL then the entire mitten needs to truly be large enough!NOT good design thinking! This is my first experience buying Dakine; NOT favorably impressed.

I had a great pair of Dakine mitts for years and lost one of them. None of the mitts of today compare. Unfortunately even these new ones I just bought dont either. I live in Canada and love the extreme sport of kite skiing. I require a really warm mitt because I move up to 80 kph on skis for hours. The old mitt was a simple, not too thick mitt with a leather palm and a mitt (not a glove) inside. This is critical. All the big fat thinsulate mitts you buy today are disgusting when you take them off and put them on. For days after use they are damp inside. The inner mitt solves this, but unfortunately this new mitt I just bought has a glove not a mitt inside. Everybody knows a glove is not as warm as a mitt. And unfortunately the glove doesnt really fit inside the mitt. The thumb especially is too tight which will significantly reduce the time it takes to get cold, and its just not that comfortable. Dakine if you ever decide to look back in your history books and make that old mitt again, put me down for two pairs immediately.
