Heavy and all-round bad design.Looks great in the photos, and I'm so glad I didn't get a whole set of these.Printed 'Damascus' design on very heavy steel, which is dangerously heavy and instantly clumsy.Slippery when wet and if this is the baby, I'd shudder to think how badly someone could injure themselves with a full sized blade.Not a functional or safe design IMHO.Having cooked in kitchens and at home since I was old enough, I think I know a good vs bad knife.Even at the discounted price, I can't see value, unfortunately.It came scratched and marked, but its really just not a great knife at all.A fair-ish attempt at a copy of a true Japanese blade, but no.

While pricey at RRP, the Baccarat Damashiro Emperor knives are top of the line. They are sharp, sturdy and look incredible. In fact their knife sets are more like a furniture piece rather than kitchenware. Their handles are incredibly nice, however they do need to be taken special care of as they are coated in varnish. Their blades have a stunning Damascus pattern but do scratch easily (like anything I suppose.) Best used with the stone sharpening block. I would highly recommend these knives, especially when on sale.

Fabulous KnifeHave the Knife Block in this range… so sharp and very comfortable in your hand. Always get an a spare of any of these knives just in case !!!!
I got a job as a kitchen hand, at the same time i brought this knife, and to say I'm very happy with the knife is an understatement. The quality is like nothing I've worked with before. The first time i used this knife i was doing a of preparation, and this knife glides through fruit and veg like nothing else. And above all else the shape is outstanding. I highly recommend this knife
I brought 3 of these knives as Christmas presents, and they have arrived so poorly presented it looks like I’ve got them from the cheap shop! Instead of being presented in a box as per the last emperor knife we have purchased, these three knives arrived unboxed with a cheap plastic sheath with a lovely barcode sticker just to finish off the el cheapo look! Seriously disappointed as I’m now left with three knives that look like just some random pieces of cutlery! Hardly suitable to gift as Christmas presents. Great little knife, super sharp. The size means it’s taken some practice to use as it’s smaller than a standard Santoku. 100% my fault for not reading that, but thought I’d mention it on the review for others that might have made the same error I did.
