Absolutely love this clay, it has a really great texture and is very easy to shape. Dries quite fast too. There’s something super satisfying about DAS packaging too. The clay is easy to use and even if you have little experience with clay you can make some easy trinkets or bowls. Definitely my favourite.

I love this product and have used it many times. Although the clay looks Grey when you open the packet it does dry White. I use themed cookie cutters to make the shapes and a drinking straw to make the hole if you want to hang your piece, especially good this time of year as a tree decoration. I introduced my niece and nephews to DAS and they had a lot of fun making gifts for their school friends.

Bought to make halloween decorations withe kids. We always use das clay for anything that doesnt need to be permanent. It's essengially paper clay and you will never get a ceramic vlay quality item from it. As long as you have the rught expectations you will love this. We've used it for allsorts like model volcanos (use a glass jar inside if youre making "lava"), christmas gift tags and bones for Halloween displays. It takes thick acrylic paint well but dont add water. It's not waterproof (falls apart), can't be used for candles as it's not heat proof, and you can't make models with it if they require structural support - like a wire skeleton/armature - the clay just rolls 'around' the wire rather than moulding to it like normal clay would. It isn't sticky enough. ... MoreBought to make halloween decorations withe kids. We always use das clay for anything that doesnt need to be permanent. It isn't sticky enough. Another thing I've seen people complain about - this goes off if you dont use it. Both by hardening into an unusable crumbly lump, and if kept wet it will get mildew. Not really for saving for later... we try to use the whole block within a week or so.
Absolutely brilliant versatile stuff. Used cutters and knives to cut items and greaseproof paper underneath to help lift items. When shapes finished, smoothed edges with wet fingers. Used a cocktail stick to create a hole so that we could hang up items once they are dried and painted. Little cracks can be sealed up with some fresh wetted clay ( slip). Looks pretty in its dried Matt white form or lovely painted and varnished.Could make egg shapes, hearts, stars, bats forso many occasions like valentines, Easter, Halloween, Christmas etc. Or big spherical beads to be threaded and painted in a neutral theme for general room decor. Or create a hollow cube / ball with cut out perforations, maybe paint inside/ outside and place battery tea light inside. So many ... MoreAbsolutely brilliant versatile stuff. #sweepstakes So, I tried DAS paperclay a few years ago, and I couldn't stand the smell of it... But now, some years later, I find that I can tolerate it better than I did. The package even has a label now that says "low odor" fomula, so clearly I was not the only one.. It still has an odor, but it doesn't seem as toxic smelling as the previous formula. I still prefer to work with it outdoors when I can, because my studio does not have great ventilation. But smells aside, I do really enjoy working with this clay. I am not able to do regular kiln ceramics at this time, so DAS is my alternate medium. I got a package of white and terra cotta. I like to knead the workable clay first really well, maybe that's from my days as a ceramicist. I like to knead the workable clay first really well, maybe that's from my days as a ceramicist. But I find that it helps with more intricate modeling and detail. And I keep a spray bottle on hand to keep the clay moist and pliable, even a little tacky. I let my bird sculptures air dry outside for about a week. They don't actually need that long to cure, but I do that just so there is no hint of a smell. Next I am going to paint them with flashe paint.
I turn to Blick whenever we are onto a new art pursuit. Both the vast variety and affordability of products never cease to astound me. This modeling clay has been a steadfast material in our home since my toddlers learned to coil. Many of our masterpieces have been tragically lost to the throws of our youngest. Some have survived and have made grandparents cry with delight upon receipt. If you're making people cry with your art, you know the materials are good quality. My mom got her art materials from Blick, I get mine from Blick, and I hope to pass the Blick devotion down to my own children. #blicksweepstakes
I used this to make a model that was used to make a form for casting where clay would not be appropriate. Considering that the main body of the piece was only 5mm thick, I was surprised that there was very limited shrinkage (not noticeable) and no cracking. I treated it like clay, keeping it damp and covered when not working on it, and worked on it over a number of consecutive days. At this point, the only significant flaw that this medium has is that it is fibrous. This means that it takes a bit more work to bond additions to the body of the piece, that it tears a little rather than separating like clay does and takes a little more work to create fine carved detail. If you can work around these differences, then this is a very good product.
