This is a gorgeous machine & delightful to use. Why the 1 star? #1) it took about 3 months to arrive due to supply chain issues, and more importantly, #2) water leaked on our first use of it. We had GEEK protection, but they could not fix it & it could not be re-ordered because of supply chain issues. So, our only recourse was to either return it, or mail it back to the Delonghi manufacturers to fix it. We opted to return it because another fellow who was at Best Buy when we were making this decision shared that he had to return this same model three times due to different defects before he decided to buy a completely different espresso machine. Finally, to change the coffee beans, you need to vacuum out the beans from the hopper. Yep! Vacuum them out! For some ... MoreThis is a gorgeous machine & delightful to use. But for people like us, we like variety - sometimes decaf, sometimes French vanilla, sometimes other great beans. So this was a huge inconvenience that we had not read about in other reviews. We would have definitely put up with the inconvenience of vacuuming if the workmanship were better. So, all in all, despite it's beauty & enjoyable espresso making process, it's such a disappointment to say I wouldn't recommend it. (I've written many reviews & this is the only 1 star I've ever given a product.) I really wanted to love this machine & still think it looks gorgeous.

Very expensive for the value. The main point was to be able to make cappuccinos, lattes and flat whites, but the frother just barely spits out water & air and occasional milk drop / no foam . The 3 milk settings do the same thing so no point in settings. Made several trial coffees, and came out barley an ounce of coffee at best . One time a little bit of warm milk came out mixed with water. Had the Latissima One Nespresso by Delonghi for 6 years without issue and great cappuccinos, for a fraction of the cost .Also you can’t remove the bean container when beans are still in it, which made for quite the mess when trying to clean and change the coffee beans. The machine does all the activities, from grinding the beans to frothing (LatteCrema system) the drink. This LatteCrema system automatically dispenses the right amount of froth in the drink of your choice. There is a sensor that dispatches the optimal amount of beans for grinding. The built-in tamper has a lever that presses the coffee grounds evenly resulting in less waste. There are five different temperature settings to tailor the roasting per individual needs. Simple drinks like espresso with a single or double shot can be achieved with a press of a button, however, other drinks does require you to be a bit more involved. There is also a My button which allows you to adjust the amount of water or milk to be added for a specific setting. Depending the type of coffee one desires, this setting can be adjusted accordingly. I did notice that there is no water level indicator on the front side of the machine which requires to turn around the machine to lift the water tank to confirm the water level. Overall, the stainless steel body adds an elegant look to the machine and is a great addition to our kitchen.

This was a replacement for a unit 7+ years old that was high end machine. I did now want to spend same amount of money to replace, thinking 7 years of development new machine would be of equal quality. Unfortunately I was wrong.Machine is decent but quality of espresso just wasn’t that great compared to what I was used too. I went through half pound of bean just to get a decent pull. Unfortunately the 21mm portafilter just doesn’t deliver a quality shot compared to my prior 58mm portafilter. The frother is decent and very convenient but I prefer the control of a manual machine and the manual frothing just wasn’t up to par of higher end machine.Good machine for starters and for price range but once used to a higher quality this is disappointing. This is a replacement machine for an older more advanced machine, that has begun to flip GFCI due to over heating. Unfortunately could not afford to stay at the same level of machine. Few observations, took probably a half pound of beans to dial this machine in. Recommended grind was 4 and 14, I am at almost fine and 18. Almost scared what is going to happen when I change beans, which I tend to do on frequent basis. First shot still does not get into the optimal range when brewing but subsequent shots are ok. The porta-filter seems to be smaller than other machines thus shots are weaker in taste. Additionally the temperature seems to be low even though running at 5. I much prefer machine that allows you to set an actual temperature. The automated frothing option is nice but haven't seen much difference when changing setting between heavy froth and light froth. Unfortunately will probably end up returning if allowed as a lot of money for something not overly satifiying.
I’m impressed how this DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro manual espresso machine can extract oils better from the same coffee beans than my superautomatic machine or moka pot can. There is a noticeable improvement in crema and body, which I really enjoy! I like that this espresso machine is easy enough to use on a busy morning. The key is to experiment with coffee beans on slower days to perfect the dose, grind, temperature, and pressure to get the optimal extraction. Once figured out, write down the preferred settings if you like to switch up beans like I do. I like that this machine starts up quickly, makes little mess, and is easy to clean up after. I’m really impressed with the aesthetics of the machine. The gauges and finish are really eye catching. The matte and shiny metal, as well as the glossy black trim make for a really sleek appearance.I wish the portafilter was easier to line up in the brewing station; it takes more precision and force than I’d prefer early in the morning. I wish the height of the machine was a touch shorter. The bean hopper does not clear my standard height kitchen cabinets. The water tank in the back can be difficult to fill all the way. I had best results filling about ¾.For me, the quality of coffee extracted overrides this machines short comings. The DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro is a good option for a manual espresso machine.
I purchased the DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro after having a great latte at a friends house, made with the same machine. It’s taking a bit of time to get the settings figured out to make that same great latte.A couple of issues/complaints are that the temperature setting does not go high enough. Even with the temperature set at the 5 level, unless I use an insulated cup, the coffee cools quickly and I end up drinking a cold cup of coffee. The other issue is the frother does not give a thick froth of milk, regardless of where I set the setting.Another issue is being able to consistently get the pressure into the “optimal zone” - regardless of the fact that the settings are the same with each cup made, the same pressure is not reached each time.I’ve called ... MoreI purchased the DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro after having a great latte at a friends house, made with the same machine. The customer service rep was not able to tell me what the setting of 5 should equal in degrees. My overall impression is that the DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro is good, but not great as I expected, especially for the price.
It looks intimidating but is not- it is actually very easy to use and keep clean. It gives the option to practice your barista skills or just go in autopilot. The tamper is easy to use-some coffee grounds do fall down in the tray but they can be easily vacuumed out or just dump when cleaning the tray. The steamer is great- I had one that was just regular manual mode and it was fun the first few times but after that you had to sit and wait for it to warm up and steam the milk- sometimes it would be great other times my steaming skills were off and it was not as great. The auto milk steamer just does it on its own! I push the OK button and in about a minute I have my perfect cup of whatever I want! The auto mil steamer needs to be cleaned after use - there is a cleaning on the machine that is easy but then it should be taken apart and rinsed out- it takes about a minute so I’m not taking anything off the review.
We had been looking at the La Specialista Maestro for months. We had an automatic espresso machine for a few years and it was giving us issues. Before that we had a manual Saeco and my hubby wanted to go back to manual because the espresso wasn’t the same in the automatic. The Smart Tamping feature and the temperature option on the Maestro are what make this machine! If you follow the bean colour guide you will have an amazing shot of espresso every time! It may take a bit for you to find the right bean to use for your personal taste but once you do…you won’t be disappointed. We are not huge Robusta Coffee fans so we like to stick with the LavAzza Super Crema and ECS’s 88 MPH Espresso Blend. We are not huge Robusta Coffee fans so we like to stick with the LavAzza Super Crema and ECS’s 88 MPH Espresso Blend. Again follow the bean guide and you may need to adjust ever so slightly for your personal taste. The LatteCrema system is AMAZING! Works perfectly! When we were in Italy we seen that most milk was lactose free and the foam in cappuccino’s were fabulous. We have been using lactose free milk for lattes and cappuccinos and the foam has come out BEAUTIFULLY EVERYTIME! It takes a few attempts to make your perfect shot of espresso…BUT once you’ve got it, it’s catered to your taste and you won’t have to change anything unless you change your bean. So it may take a bit of work at the beginning, BUT La Specialista Maestro can definitely make a shot of espresso tasting like one from a bar in Italy and your cappuccino with the most beautiful foam with no effort! No regrets with the Machine! We are very happy with the quality and taste!

It would be great if there were temperature options for the milk.Although it lets you customize your own settings using the My button, you can't get it to produce a default version of the same type of beverage for someone else. The only way that you can make the default version is to reset it. I should be able to use the My button for my custom version or toggle it off and just use the Ok button for the default. The manual steam wand is terrible and it seems impossible to get a thick froth from it.Finally, for this price point, it certainly should last longer than 5 months before needing repair (which had me without my machine for 3 weeks).
