I never thought I'd ever get into a deep storytelling game about a porter who goes on a life-changing mission; an epic journey full of plot twists and intrigue, to connect a broken country together, and reestablish the United States for better or worse, but I was taken aback by the scope of realism that Hideo Kojima put into this game. And the most mind-boggling part is ... you have a newborn baby strapped to your chest the whole time! Whaaa?!At first glance, you may think it's just a slow paced, boring fetch quest, from A to Z, making mindless deliveries to and from, but you'd be wrong because just about everything matters on your journey before you set off--carry weight, how the environment affects your abilities, your equipment, the enemies you might encounter, ... MoreI never thought I'd ever get into a deep storytelling game about a porter who goes on a life-changing mission; an epic journey full of plot twists and intrigue, to connect a broken country together, and reestablish the United States for better or worse, but I was taken aback by the scope of realism that Hideo Kojima put into this game. The sheer amount of depth involved is what makes this game either grip you by your teeth or completely enrages you. Your worst enemy will either be bodies of water or mountains. Ha!Most importantly, this is like a virtual game of FB, where the only interaction from other online players is hearing a distant echo, sharing what complications they've built that may assist or hinder your travels, but you honestly get engrossed in the game's culture of everyone working together tirelessly and daily to create a better world of tomorrow to make your lives easier mission to mission, and through much of your hard work you'll be given--literally--likes to boost your morale and motivation to keep playing the way you want.Every little good deed you do, for the NPCs or others, you'll be rewarded material and items that you will inevitably need on this grand journey of exploration. Moreover, there is a grading system for how well deliveries are made based on your speed, cargo condition, quantity, distance traveled, and more. This game becomes highly addictive! With amazing, realistic graphics, great acting from Norman Reedus, a very heartfelt musical score, and gameplay that is tailored to be persistent and fresh every time you enter the world of Death Stranding, you'll be engaged to the very end.Without spoiling anything about the enemies you'll face in the game, let's just say there are very monstrous entities that come out during the rain that will make your skin crawl and fill your heart with dread. Paranornal experiences! The only big downside to a game of this epic scale is that there is A LOT of necessary reading to draw you into the lore, to teach you how to play effectively to survive, and everything else in between. If you don't mind methodical games that require a fair amount of reading, a robust menu system with a steep learning curve, and things requiring checks and balances, then this game is for you.I will say that this game took me literally two weeks to beat. It's that long of an expansive narrative that takes you into what feels like a deep movie trilogy. This game is a blockbuster worth trying--and once you're hooked, you're in for the long haul.Safe journeys! ✌️

This is one of those games either you love it or hate it. For me, I absolutely love this game. It’s almost a therapeutic experience for me. Gorgeous graphics, amazing score and really feels like you’re out there in the wild exploring. I finished ps4, pc and now looking forward to finishing the directors cut

This is my 2nd time buying the game as I had already 100% completed the original release on the PS4. This updated PS5 release has extra content, and I will absolutely be playing through it and 100% completing it again. Don't listen to the haters who call this "UPS/Walking Simulator"...yes there is a lot of traversal, a concept that exists in most large open world games. The story is very well written, and even just the music tracks alone are enough to make me love this game.Hideo Kojima is by far one of the best game/story developers of his time. I cannot wait for the recently announced Death Stranding 2 to be released!

I will admit. First time around I stopped playing after about 2-3 hours. Very boring. Just walking around, tripping and falling without any real action like Kojima is known for. But i bought the director’s cut since I’m a fan and i played it to the end. Wow! What an experience. Now it’s one of my favorite games. I sometimes play this instead of resident evil games. Highly recommend. Death Stranding 2 is also coming out soon
This game is one of a kind! I have never played a Kojima game, so I am new to his games. This game is a masterpiece! The prologue had me hooked. I know the game is a "walking simulator" but I don't think so. One can traverse mountains, cliffs, and valleys which brings amazing background shots and gets you immersed into the journey as a porter. The journey is a deep and beautiful experience which not many games can master. This game pairs well with a 4k TV. The soundtrack is amazing! It suits the game really well. For those getting into the game for the first time, take your time and enjoy every aspect of the game. For those who stopped playing the game, I suggest getting back in because the new features of the Director's Cut make the experience better.
I will be totally honest, Death Stranding was absolutely boring the first time i played it. It looked phenomenal but all you do is play delivery boy with a convoluted story. I gave it another go around and man did it click for whatever reason. The story takes some time to understand and the gameplay is not for everyone, but for me it turned into an experience i wish i could relive again blind. It has become one of my favorite games of all time!
I'm having a hard time with this games traverse system. It takes forever to get from one point to the next. I really wish this game had a better travel system. It's hard to continue to play this game do to the constant traveling on foot and having to balance many items on the characters body. I think the story is good but travel mechanics are frustrating to me.
I almost exclusively play open world games and this one made me hesitant at first. Heck. It still makes me hesitant 35 hours in, but I can’t put it down. Let me see if I can explain why. It’s simple and complex at the same time. One negative is that it’s very emo. One positive is that it is very emo. It’s strange and also familiar. It mocks and also celebrates so many deep social concepts, yet it eludes description. Its relaxing and riddled with anxiety. The main character is fascinatingly boring, yet endlessly interesting. It’s challenging and easy. It’s slow and then suddenly fast. It’s also one of the most beautiful and stark worlds ever created. It’s just plain nice to look at. It’s too soon and too late. Did that help? I went into this game late and luckily ... MoreI almost exclusively play open world games and this one made me hesitant at first. Heck. Now that I have played it, I know why so many have struggled to put it into a box. It truly is genre melting and very hard to succinctly explain beyond this guy walks around and delivers packages in a post-apocalyptic USA. It’s so much more than that though…and it is just that. It has to be played. Once you’ve done so, you’ll likely either love it or hate it. A third option is you’ll enter into an abusive relationship with it where you want to hate it, then it does something beautiful. Rinse. Repeat. That’s where I am now. Enjoy!
Yes we all know the game is superb, so let’s talk about the great aspects of this directors cut:1) the dual sense controller. Utterly brilliant. Every little step rumbles left and right on the controller… and by surface. I’m genuinely amazed the effort placed into this and it adds so much.2) sound. I thought it was always good but it sounds amazing on my dolby set up.3) graphically some nice additions. I personally just play “quality” mode and get pretty much 60fps locked through out. It looks incredible on an OLED.The new gameplay elements are nice, and if you haven’t played this it’s a must have on PS5. If you have played it, I’d struggle to recommend a double dip approach unless it’s been a while since you last played.Wonderful game.
This is a tough one. I almost wanna give it 3 stars but i just couldn't handle the lenghty super far in between distances to go just to be a delivery-walling simulator. Watching a movie version edited on youtube made it way better. I may be biased but least ill admit it. I've been a courier for over 15 years! This game was so secretly and well hidden to the public til literally release day! They went off hype and hideo's name only to sell this game! I refused to buy it because i had no clue ehat islt was ablut and i won't buy a game over a self inflated name. Hideo is a nametag and he can't write stories very well. People other then hideo made metalmgear solid and another man wrote the majrkity of mgs. However the culture over there, they slapped Hideo name on it ... MoreThis is a tough one. People other then hideo made metalmgear solid and another man wrote the majrkity of mgs. However the culture over there, they slapped Hideo name on it and leople gave him all the credit. Thats not fair when other people did the writing and all the work. Anyways imagine my surprise when 8 hours of walking and getting to point a to be was nothing but walling and delivering packages! I was dumbfounded and said heck no. I do this for a living and refuse to play a game that relates to what I do for a living. To then get a bad rating cause i had no idea how to get to point b worhout losing, damaging, getting wet, tou are rated on how good, fast, and all items are untouched or undamaged! Only way to figure this game out was to youtube it. I refused for hours cause inwantes to do it myself. So 8 hours into the game i barely got anglance at what everyone says id an amazing story. Sorry but 8 hours I barely got any story! This game was a 50-50 game. You either love or hate it. After watching guides over a yesr later i see how, where, and what to do. Also the imbedded poltics am not a fan of. Its easy to kill anyone that goes after you but the consequences are severe. Gotta take so much time out of tour way to dispose of the bodies! So annoying and time consuming. Hidoe always implemented killing is wrong in any given situation. Its better to run away honestly. However to just find out how to get point a to b with a perfect rating, to finally 12 hours to get some story. The story is good, but to get the story took way to long. Unless you look up how to make this game easier by which way to go, what items are needed to build bridges or any other means of faster transportation or shortcuts. For people like me who refuse to get online for help this game took way to long and I already am rated in real life for delivering packages and don't need a game also doing the same thing. So this game wasn't for me for personal reasons. However emotions aside i tried for 20 hours! Thats to long. I tried as a ultra mega fan of hideo. Nor.ally ill know within a few hours if the game is for me, but loyalty and being a fan kept me going for to long. Took me over a year to finally realize and review my reasons and how this game just made things to far and between. Nothing kept going. I jist didn't care anymore. I finally wathced an edited movie version of this game. That was a 5 star video! However it takes way to long and I'm nit the only one who labels this a walking delivery simulator. I see why people give a good review. Many just go by lyalty and the cideos they watched. It saddens me to give this review and it took me an long time to do so. I bought the ps5 version onky to be a loyal fan and support Hideo. I finally ipened my eyes and realized this game just isn't for me and nobidy wanted the game in my family so I returned it today.
