However, at less than $20 and a height of only 135 mm, I am pleasantly surprised with the Deepcool Gammaxx 300 and very happy with my purchase.

We have 4 older computers we built years ago for our business that are still running pretty quick thanks to the use of fast RAM and Kingston HyperX SSD. Two of them use A10-5800K and two use A8-5600K. Both are 100W TDP CPUs. One of them started shutting down during it's morning virus scan. Thanks to the SSD, the virus scan takes the CPU to 100% load, utilizing all 4 cores. Being that these CPUs are APUs, I later found out that they tend to run much hotter than a regular CPU with the same TDP. After I blew the 8 or so years of dust that made it through the cases dust filters, the reboot's became less frequent. I tried replacing the thermal compound and noticed very little difference. Their listed thermal limit is 74°C. We purchased one of these coolers, not wanting to throw a lot of money towards an 8 year old computer. We noticed a temperature drop of 10°C-12°C, especially after updating the BIOS so that the PWM profile would actually do something on one of the two MSI FM2-A55M-E35 motherboards. Being impressed with the results and not wanting to see an issue in the other computers, we ordered 3 more of the GAMMAXX 300's. The ASUS FM2A78M-HD+ motherboard PWM was not as aggressive enough in "Turbo mode" and a BIOS update did not help the PWM profile perform any better, and only actually got up to 1200 RPM in "Turbo" mode (manual mode was useless at 1000 RPM no matter the temperature). The ASUS only saw a 10°C drop during it's daily virus scan. One of our later-built computers has an MSI A78-E45 V2 motherboard. It's PWM profile works perfectly and was able to achieve an impressive 17°C drop as it's PWM would actually take the fan to 100% speed at about 1600 RPM. The MSI A78-E45 V2 motherboard PWM never got the CPU above 74°C. The other two MSI motherboards now take much longer to get above 74°C and when stressed, will not get above 79°C.

The item came with the mount for the 200T model (a black plastic ring), not the 300 (2 separate metal bars). The mount for the 300 model is compatible with LGA1366 sockets. The 200T model is not. My motherboard has LGA1366 socket. I applied for a replacement. The replacement also came with the wrong mount. Between waiting for the original item to arrive, shipping it back, and waiting for the replacement to arrive, an entire month was wasted with nothing I can use at the end. Also, the item I received came in a box where the front of the box is labeled as "300" but the instruction on the back of the box is for the 200T model, suggesting an entire batch of these products were mislabeled and/or mis-packaged. This is one of the BEST CPU coolers I've owned. It's almost silent even when it ramps up when the CPU begins to get hot from gaming. I was shocked at how well this heat sink performed considering the price. I felt like I was taking a gamble using a "cheap" CPU cooler but my other components ate up a lot of my PC budget. I had to find a few areas to cut back on and the CPU cooler was one of them when I saw the Gammax 300. I figured it would be at least marginally better than the always useless stock coolers but I was blown away by how well it keeps my overclocked AMD FX-6300 Vishera cool. Under full load the CPU hovers right around 50 degrees C, idle is around 34 degrees C (I tend to keep my house on the warm side). If you really want to light up your case, check out the Gammax 400 which has LED built into the fan. Trying to install these tower coolers on an AMD CPU can be a hassle though, though it's more the fault of the AMD clip design than the manufacturer. You may want to ask someone to help you installing this if you're an AMD user. Have a friend hold the heat sink in place while you press down, quite hard actually, on the clips both at the same time to guide them into place. I'm surprised AMD hasn't revised their mounting clips as you feel for SURE you're going to break the motherboard. Don't try to install it by holding it at an angle and slipping one clip in place and pivoting the cooler towards the next clip; that's certainly going to break your CPU. AMD installation can be tough but once it's in place it's fantastic and gripping the mounting brackets so tight you KNOW it's not going to shift...ever. And the thermal paste is the exact amount you need. Don't bother with wiping it off and adding Arctic Silver...the preapplied paste is almost always fine no matter the brand. I was so impressed with this cooler that I added LOGISYS to the top of my list of manufacturers to check first when looking for accessories or other essential components that aren't critical (the PSU comes to mind...I'd recommend sticking with the standards here such as Corsair, Seagate, etc...). If you need a CPU cooler and this one will fit in your case then I can say with absolute certainty that you should buy it. There are other, more expensive, options out there but the Gammax 300 is on par with or better than those other folks' products. Why spend $75+ when you can save your dough and put it towards a more powerful GPU or a more feature rich motherboard?

The fan work well and it is quiet. Functionally it is a sound cooling mechanism and It does what is advertised. For anyone who is reading this and has one (not sure why you're reading a review AFTER you bought it, but who am I to judge): Look at the pegs that go into the motherboard to hold it. You'll see there are black pins with two pieces of white plastic around each one. If you're not careful, these white plastic pieces can potentially bend the wrong way (they're supposed to go into the hole and hold it in place, obviously) and stop the whole thing from seating correctly, forcing you to take the whole thing out and do it over again. Thankfully, those white plastic pieces are durable enough that they can bend without breaking. If you see one flat and pushed back, ... MoreThe fan work well and it is quiet. Once installed, it’s fine

Cools fine my 9600k OC at 4.9 with 1.32v. Idles in the high 20’s to low 30’s. Max efforts for 30 minutes with all fans at 100% it’ll be in the mid 70’s. I changed the preapplied paste for Arctic Silver and that’s it. From looks it seems super easy to install on a new build but if you are in my situation, having to install it in a prebuilt computer, it’s just too hard! Took me 30 to 45 minutes to install it because the clips were not holding on the fan to lock me on the heat sink. It could easily be corrected. Instead of half wholes in the fan for the brackets, make a whole thru and thru. Just that would help a lot for balance when installing it. Perfect replacement for stock AMD cooler

I bought this cooler to replace the stock AMD Wraith Stealth cooler, which was making a terrible high-pitched whirring sound. Sound: This cooler is almost completely silent, even at full speed this cooler only makes a soft purring sound, which is a vast improvement over the stock cooler and I'm not sure I would even notice it while gaming. Cooling: Cooling performance is fantastic, as my overclocked Ryzen 5 3600 never even approached the high 70s celsius while maxing out all cores on RealBench. This is compared to the stock cooler, which was keeping the Ryzen 5 at about 84C. Installation: Using the motherboard's AM4 brackets, installation was a breeze. A bit of force is required to get the second clip on, but that is to be expected. The contact surface had pre-applied thermal paste which was the perfect amount.

Swapped from standard run-of-the-mill, weak-sauce, all-aluminum Wraith Spire (3600X). Upgrading from a ~92mm to this 120mm makes big difference but the tower alone is already an upgrade. Here's how it shakes down --- this thing spinning at 1100RPM (barely audible) cools as well as the rattly spire cooler at 2000RPM. This makes a world of difference for noise levels. Used pre-applied paste which is fine. This thing maxes out at less than 1800RPM which means peak cooling performance is about the same as the Wraith Spire screaming like a jet engine at 2900RPM full tilt. Mind you, that works out respectably with peak temps in the low 70s (deg. IN THIS CASE MY AMBIENT BEING 25* C : that's right I said it... actually stated my ambient temperature... chew on that, 95% of reviewers that state a CPU/GPU temperature without any context of whether they're running at 15* C or 35* C ambient. Temperature delta is the only meaningful way to evaluate cooling performance. It's probably because Farrenheit heads don't respect lord Celsius. Note, my case has very good air flow and will have very close internal temperatures compared to ambient of the larger establishment (disgusting, greasy gaming dungeon).
