My first 1440p monitor and I love it. I have had many 1080p monitors in the past and compared to them, this one is my favorite by far. For power/energy saving, the monitor turns off after 10 sec at windows lock screen, and my other monitors would take 5-10 seconds to "wake", but this one takes 1 or 2 seconds, so that's nice. This year I decided it was time to upgrade my 24 inch monitor. I have a PC and a PS5, and I wanted to take advantage of the PS5 now supporting 1440p. I had purchased another 27 inch monitor by another brand but returned it due to the issues it was having. I was reading about how most monitors had issues. Then I came across this Dell 27 inch monitor that people were raving about. I thought I'll try it out and see if it lives up the hype. It definitely is worth it. I bought this monitor along with my new Dell G15 gaming laptop for the fact that this is a G-Sync compatible monitor.To my surprise, there is no way I can use the G-Sync feature on this monitor made by Dell with a RTX 3070 laptop also made by Dell. The reason being this monitor only supports G-Sync via a display port and the Dell G15 gaming laptop has no display port. I tried using it with a USB-C to display port converter and it still doesn't work because the output is going through the integrated Intel GPU and not the discrete Nvidia GPU. It should be clearly mentioned or even better, customers should be able to see a feature compatibility matrix before buying the item online.I even tried customer service and while talking to them I could tell the guy had no ... The monitor is mostly used for office and programming tasks.Picture quality is great and it really does make a difference seeing photographs on the 27" QHD screen. Colours are vivid but don't look unrealistic. Sharpness of text is good with no problems with black on white or white on black text. The monitor was bought to replace two 23" FHD monitors and I was worried that the slight loss of pixels when using a QHD monitor might be an issue. After using this monitor for a while I can honestly say that I don't miss the two smaller monitors. Having everything on one monitor with the extra vertical pixels has made a massive difference and software such as MS Visual Studio looks to much less ... To make matters worse the only way to have HDR at all is to enabled Dell's "SmartHDR" which is a selection of presets that all generally look AWFUL. The 'desktop' setting is the closest I could find to an unmolested image but still suffers from the dimming issue. The other presets are so terrible (adding way too much sharpening that can't be turned off) as to be unusable.Even more frustrating is that all the glowing reviews I found online before purchasing made almost no mention of this. This is a massive negative.Just let us have an HDR mode without this "SmartHDR" nonsense.

I purchased two of these and they are sharp and clear with mostly good color rendition (maybe they need to be calibrated?). These are G-Sync compatible, which is a plus for anyone with Nvidia graphics, although this only works over DisplayPort, not HDMI. The menu system is very nice, although this leads to one of my complaints -- the buttons on the back of the monitor are right aligned, so if you mount the monitor side by side, the monitor on the left is harder to adjust the OSD menu.The USB Hub is a very nice inclusion here, and an unexpected one. I was not aware of this before purchasing, but it provides extra USB 3.0 ports. This makes it easier to plug in peripherals as needed.The 165Hz refresh rate is great, although not quite as obvious as the adjustment from 60Hz to 144Hz. Once you've tried a refresh rate 144Hz and above, it's hard to go back. Cursor moves are smoother on the screen, and everything feels more responsive.At full resolution of 2540 x 1440, text and icons do appear very small (I had to adjust Windows to 125% magnification to compensate). At 27", this is about as high a resolution as I would go. If you want a 4k monitor, I would definitely recommend a larger screen size too. The extra resolution does make graphics sharper and also provides extra screen real estate for applications.Overall, these are a welcome upgrade from my previous LG monitors. Dell is a consistent manufacturer of computer peripherals, and I am rarely disappointed by what they produce. Solid construction, great picture quality, and a good price point makes these hard to pass up. Highly recommended!
I ordered these based on a few various online reviews that recommended them, and seeing they were on sale for significantly less than MSRP. I ordered two, looking for a good work/play set of monitors for my home office.My early impressions are not good. I can't identify what it is, but something about them causes a lot of eye strain. They're uncomfortable to look at, even when in "comfort" mode (AKA red mode...).The color and brightness of the two monitors is very mismatched. First thing I did was turn that off.I'm on the fence whether I will return these. If I don't return, I may exchange one panel, just to see if I have better luck with the color matching out of the box. Just have to wait for the local store to have them back in stock. I'll sit with them and update my review if my experience improves.I did not have these problems with my Dell U2719D which I have at work. I would have bought those, but they're overpriced and I wanted to try out a higher refresh rate monitor.
Clean lines and a pleasant contrast between the black frame of the screen and the matte silver stand mean that this is an aesthetically pleasing monitor. I'm now relieved that I did not go for a monitor that was all black (all silver was never an option, I am of an age where I still remember the bitter divide between audiophiles about whether your stereo system should be black or silver).The on / off light is just as annoying as every other monitor ever but it is comparatively small and discreet. The Dell logo doesn't catch your eye as much as others either. In time, both of these issues will be addressed with black tape and since there are no monitors out there without these issues I guess I am just ranting at this point. It's better than most, how's that.The stand has a greater range of motion than I do these days. It's angular design walks the thin line between aggresive and reassuring. Over time it will become a shelf for the mouse, I may then Bonsai dress it with a small carpet, maybe some shrine artifacts for the internet Gods. I think the design will date but by the time it does I will no longer be able to see it.I have seen other stand designs that do a better job of hiding your cabling but a couple of velcro straps will have you tidy enough when sat in front of the screen. Just avert your eyes as you walk around the room.The speakers are not why you bought this Monitor, you bought it to get 2560 / 1440 on a 27 inch screen (and then maybe had to buy a cheap GPU to get the resolution because your integrated graphics wouldn't play ball) Go buy some speakers. Don't wait until the sound this monitor produces infuriates you.Image quality for everyday work, imgur, Youtube, films...all perfectly good.The reason this is four star is not because of anything I have written above but because, whilst I appreciate that I have bought an entry level monitor at this size and resolution, the lack of a USB socket (I added LED backlighting but it could be you need to charge a phone, or have a dongle for wireless mouse etc) seems a little mean.No VGA was OK because even my old PC had an HDMI (and almost any GPU you buy will have an HDMI port) but not a single USB? You could have made this without the speakers and given me a couple of USBs, eh? So, 4 stars.However, given the difference in price between this and what I wanted (never mind what I REALLY wanted but my PC couldn't possibly run) this reduction of a star comes with the hefty caveat that I would be looking at a 24 inch monitor right now where it not for this monitors existence...and it has made a BIG difference to my day to have gone up in both size and resolution. So, 4 1/2 stars.
