Bought this unit a little over a year ago. Not too many options if you want an FM receiver, WiFi, and the option to power two sets of speakers in one box. Have it setup in the living room powering two towers and a sub. The B speaker outs are powering ceiling mounted speakers in the kitchen. Think about using Zone 2 for outdoor speakers eventually. While it is not used for TV viewing, I do plug it into the TV via HMDI to enter the WiFi password. Very difficult otherwise. Never used the HEOS app as the Airplay is seamless. It shows up as a WiFi speaker option from the pull down menu and automatically powers on and changes to the correct source when selected. I downloaded the Denon remote app on my iPhone and iPad. Great for adjusting the settings and A/B speaker selection anywhere in the house. Sound quality is very good. I used the built-in phono for a while, but eventually added a Mani 2. It is a bit louder and offers a more dynamic sound than the built-in unit. Only other minor gripe is the inability to control the A/B speaker out volumes separately. I’d need to setup the zone 2 with it’s own amp to do that. It is also not much to look at, but it’s ease of use and versatility has allowed for so much music to flow through the house this past year. Overall it has exceeded my modest expectations. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for upgrade option, but everything seems to be in the integrated amp category missing the AM/FM tuner of a stereo receiver. If you never listen to broadcast radio (or are content streaming your favorite radio station) there are other options. I had originally bought a similarly featured network receiver from Onkyo, but the Denon sounded better and was easier to use.

This was on such 90's bangers as Happy Mondays-Step On, New Order-Blue Monday or Primal Scream-Loaded. Adding Bass to 6db made some difference but nothing floor shaking to disturb the neighbours. Tried different speakers and an older Dennon amp (DRA-365D) and that gave a more low end, so it wasn't the speakers.Long and the short - phono hasn't impressed so far.Got the TV audio running once I found the right setting on the LG - results, nice and rounded. Excellent AV Amp
24 February 2022

If you’re on the look out for an AV amp and prefer stereo rather than surround sound, this is an excellent offering which has surpassed my expectations.I run it into a pair of Q Acoustics 3050 floor stand speakers, I stream directly to the Denon from Spotify or an internal NAS. The sound quality is superb as you’d expect, and user interface easy to use. The only slight gripe is that although the user interface can display what’s going on through your TV - it’s rendering of graphics isn’t great, so whilst it’s useable, it looks pants compared to how Spotify looks on screen when provided by my Amazon fire stick. Which still sounds excellent. For watching streamed TV i use a Panasonic TV and the fire stick as the source. The fire stick is plugged into the Denon through HDMI and then the tv through HDMI Arc. This works a dream as the moment I press the on button on the fire remote, the tv and Denon switch on and work beautifully - with the volume on the fire remote adjusting volume on the Denon.Overall this is an excellent unit which surpassed my expectations. I knew it would sound amazing but didn’t expect the inter working with TV and fire stick to be so seamless. Great job Denon!

I was way overdue to update my 50+ year-old amplifier with something more modern. I am not interested in surround-sound, as I almost entirely listen to music and don't want to spend a fortune on new speakers. It turns out that simple 2.1 amplifiers are getting fewer and fewer, and some of the remaining ones are exotically expensive. This one was well-reviewed and though not cheap, was more moderately priced, so I ordered it.This receiver has an excellent array of both traditional and HDMI inputs, so I was able to connect all my gear, and it drives 2 sets of speakers plus an independent zone 2 pre-amp output as well as HEOS speakers (for which I don't have $$ but that's ok). It readily connects via wifi, ethernet, or bluetooth to stream music from numerous modern sources as well as to play from traditional ones such as phono and CD player. The sound is noticeably better over my speakers than from my old amp. The remote control via the AVR and HEOS apps works wonderfully. One thing I would note is that, following the trend of most recent products, there is no printed manual supplied. This is important because this is a complex component with lots of configuration options and you are not likely to figure them all out without a reference. You must either download a PDF version of the manual or connect to the web manual on Denon's site. To my thinking the web version is better organized and implemented, making it easier to use.

Graet features, fantastic sound!
17 February 2023

After 32 years of service my old NAD decided to give up. My only source of music are Chromecast and TV. With radio receiver built-in, this amplifier was a perfect choice. I was torn between Denon & Marantz NR1200, as they both sound great, but went for Denon as it's a tiny bit better choice when it comes to music. Marantz may be a tad better if watch more movies, though. It's a fantastic product - music sounds so great, it's a perfect match to my Monitor Audio 5 Bronze floorstanding speakers, you can hear every detail, even at low volume. So happy with it!Many thanks to Hauke from Edinburgh branch, too, thanks for your advice and help, much appreciated!

Great price for this feature packed amp !
8 November 2022

I have had the amp for almost a month now and it just has not missed a beat, I have it running a blue ray player, sky box and Pro-Ject turntable and does it all with ease and a good crisp sound through my Gale speakers, its not got a huge amount of bass unless you crank the volume up, but the sound is good, rounded and you can pick out all the high and mid-tones beautifully. I am however considering a subwoofer to go with this set up.Setting the amp up was fairly straightforward but then I watched a million YouTube videos and I work in IT. The manual is not exactly all encompassing so I would recommend you do your research, however once you start, the on screen display makes it all pretty easy, its just tweaking the sound and settings afterwards that needs a bit ... MoreI have had the amp for almost a month now and it just has not missed a beat, I have it running a blue ray player, sky box and Pro-Ject turntable and does it all with ease and a good crisp sound through my Gale speakers, its not got a huge amount of bass unless you crank the volume up, but the sound is good, rounded and you can pick out all the high and mid-tones beautifully. I bought this to replace a 30 year old Yamaha amp.. It is teamed with a Rega P1 turntable, Triangle speakers and a Rotel CD and the sound is fantastic. Great sound, competent but complicated
25 January 2022

After a new Marantz PM6007 failed on me, Richer Sounds helpfully talked me through this as a straight swap, though it both and has more but doesn't have quite the same functionality. Set-up without a TV connected is quite difficult, not helped by the on-line instructions not being correct, so following them does not work, for example setting pre-sets on the tuner. Assigning inputs and setting input levels also took a lot of trial and error. Disappointingly Internet Radio is only provided through a third party app which requires a monthly paid subscription, and annoyingly every time I switch it on it wants me to set up this app. And for some reason, using Heos to connect from my iPhone to stream music from Tidal it ignores this nearby AVR and connects and turns on ... MoreAfter a new Marantz PM6007 failed on me, Richer Sounds helpfully talked me through this as a straight swap, though it both and has more but doesn't have quite the same functionality. Disappointingly Internet Radio is only provided through a third party app which requires a monthly paid subscription, and annoyingly every time I switch it on it wants me to set up this app. And for some reason, using Heos to connect from my iPhone to stream music from Tidal it ignores this nearby AVR and connects and turns on another AVR in another part of the house, so almost every day have to battle settings for a few minutes before it recognises this AVR.But it sounds great, the tuner delivers good FM and DAB radio, the vinyl sounds great through the phono section, and even the cassette tapes playback well. And generally the Remote Control is effective. And when it finally connects to Tidal, great quality. Can't forgive inaccurate manuals that mean hours wasted in set-up.I'd like to recommend it but not without sorting out Heos and the manuals.

Not for 4 ohm loads. Good, not great receiver.

This is one of only a few 2 channel amps with HDMI inputs and ARC support for those of us who don't want a soundbar or have the space to setup a surround system. I got one of these for Christmas to replace a setup I had cobbled together with a 2 channel integrated amp and an HDMI ARC audio extractor powering a pair of Elac UniFi UB5's. The Elacs are rated at 4 ohms and I was worried that this amp wouldn't have the power to push them, but all the reviews say it will. This amp can power them but only just and there's a significant degradation to the sound quality. All the bottom end just disappeared. You could still get decent volume but the bass was just gone. This receiver just clearly doesn't have enough power to push a 4 ohm load very well.Build quality is ... MoreThis is one of only a few 2 channel amps with HDMI inputs and ARC support for those of us who don't want a soundbar or have the space to setup a surround system. This receiver just clearly doesn't have enough power to push a 4 ohm load very well.Build quality is decent. Although I was a little surprised to find only a 2 prong power plug instead of the usual 3 prong grounded IEC.On screen display is terrible. It's like they pulled the UI straight out of a 1987 VCR. It works though, and once you have it set up you can forget about it.AVR remote app: has all the function of the on screen set up menu. It found my receiver, paired up instantly and started working without issue. That's all you can ask.HEOS app is functional and gets the job done.ARC and HDMI CEC: I connected to my LG UHDTV via the HDMI ARC input on the TV and the Monitor ARC out on the receiver. It worked initially but then suddenly stopped. After going through all of the setup menus and ensuring that ARC was selected and HDMI CEC was turned on on both devices I could not get the audio return channel to work. Ultimately, I powered down both completely and unplugged them, plugged them back in and turned them on and it's been working fine ever since. That initial handshake between devices seems to make a huge difference. I don't fault LG or Denon for this but include this in my review in case anyone has similar problems setting up HDMI CEC and ARC functionality.I connected a pair of Sony SS-CS5's down that I had in another room just to verify my suspicions about the 4ohm load from the Elacs being too much for the power section of this receiver. The Sony's sounded much better than the Elacs. Not because they're a better sounding speaker in general but because the 6 ohm nominal impedance of the Sony's worked better with this amp. The Sony's sounded like they've sounded in a number of setups I have used them for. Sound quality with impedance loads the amp is comfortable with is competent. Certainly good enough as a soundbar replacement. Soundstage and imaging were very good. Detail is okay.Volume is only okay. The Sony's are rated at 87dB but you still have to turn this amp up pretty high to get a good amount of volume. As other reviewers have said, I think the 100W rating at 8ohms is a little optimistic. The good outweighs the bad with this receiver. There's a lot to like. To get the most out of this setup though you'll want 6 ohm or higher speakers with higher sensitivity. I'll definitely be keeping it if only because of the HEOS functionality and HDMI CEC allowing me to control everything I need to with just my TV remote. All that said, I'd pay the extra money for this same receiver with a 2 channel power section as powerful as my old Denon 3805 Receiver. That has 150 honest watts and can push 4 ohms easily, but it pre-dates HDMI.
