I'm in my early sixties and have been colouring my hair for the past 25 years. For health reasons I have always used products with less of a chemical load than standard products. For many years I used these at home, with good results. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try a completely natural product, and came across the Desert Shadow range.Initially, it didn't cover my grey hair completely, but since using the pre-colour Wash Bar for stubborn grey hair, it has. The colour lasts as long as any semi-permanent product I have used before. After 2-3 weeks I begin to see signs of grey re-growth. Once you get used to mixing up the powders, it doesn’t take much time at all. I make up step 1 the night before (summer or winter). The product does need to stay on for a long time which may not suit everybody, but, as I’m working from home, this is not so much of an issue for me. I think the end result is worth it.I have naturally dark brown hair. The Honey Shadow is such a beautifully warm and soft colour that I think really suits me as I get older. I plan to keep using it for the foreseeable future.

I have tried other natural hair dyes and have had no success with covering my greys. I read the product description and took a leap of faith and I am so glad I did. My greys are completely covered and the Walnut shade was the perfect tone for me. I have naturally curly hair and after dyeing it is full of moisture and shiny. I am thrilled with the results and will continue to buy this product. I also found the instructions easy to follow and did the method of making Step 1, activating for 10 hours and then freezing until I needed it. I also kept the dye on for 3.5hours to ensure I got good coverage. Just wonderful and I would thoroughly recommend this product!!

It feels a bit like a chemistry class getting the mix ready, but the mixture once done is far superior to other products. It's a good consistency and easy to apply to your hair.My hair was almost uniformly brown when finished, other than the very grey bit in my fringe which was slightly lighter and a bit green initially, the green tinge disappeared after a couple of washes. The colour is quite dark brown, so would probably blend with a lighter brown next time. I will only use this brand now as it is the best I have found.

Fantastic

Loving having a natural hair dye to cover greys. Have not had any application issues - it's really easy to apply, the consistency is fine - not clumpy, and no drips. Just make sure to follow all the instructions to activate it, make sure your hair is clean beforehand (use a clarifying shampoo), apply using a standard tint/colouring brush. Heat helps the colour to take. The only downsides are the length of time (3-4 hours) but honestly I just wrap my hair up and get about chores at home and it's no effort - just pick a day you're at home. I also found that the first time I tried it the colour didn't seem to last at all (<2 weeks!), however I may have only left it for 2-3 hours. So if this happens, be persistent. Yes it's a bit of extra effort but it's a small trade-off, to not use chemicals.

I love this shade and product

I'd tried the Chocolate colour and it just didn't work on my dark chestnut and grey hair. It kept going light brown with golden highlights. I was about to give up, when I discovered the Deep Chestnut Shadow. The three shades from black seemed like a worthwhile risk to take. Well I finally worked out the ratio that appeals to my sense of mathematics (1 part to 4 parts). I tried one teaspoon of the number one packet and four teaspoons of the number 2 packet. It looked very green in the waiting process, but I persevered. I waited for three hours, somewhat impatiently, but it worked. I've now returned to my former glory of a warm chestnut brown. I'm very happy with the results. My hair feels and looks so thick and healthy again. Love this colour….

So having not applied henna to my hair since my early 20’s, I was a tad nervous about purchasing this product. However the condition and dryness of my hair from colouring, gave me the push I needed to give it a go. It is an easier product to apply than I remember it being, kinda like the 2020 version of henna. It does take a little patience, and I usually stick a beanie on, for the 3-4 hr processing time. This means I can walk the dog, or else I use the time to do chores or odd jobs. The condition of my hair improved dramatically after the first application, and remains soft and conditioned. I think I’m on my 5 or 6th application now. The colour is gorgeous, a light brown with light copper/honey highlights. Turns silver hair a pretty golden blonde
8 August 2022

I initially tried a strand test on my silver hair by leaving it 1.5 hours and it turned it a pleasant but subtle light golden. So the next time I used it, I applied it to all of my silver roots and left it for 3 hours, which gives a strong coppery golden blonde. In future, I'll probably try 2-2.5 hours as I'd prefer something in between. The stained silver hair is shiny and healthy, unlike chemical dyes which leave it looking dull and cause a lot of hair to fall out. This product is a mix of cassia and henna, but it contains no metallic salts so it didn't have any negative effects on the ends of my hair which are dyed blonde using standard peroxide dye. Dyed blonde hair will absorb this product faster, so I made sure I only applied it to my ends in the last 30 minutes. I shampooed my hair in the morning to get rid of oils and styling products, then towel dried it and later applied this cassia/henna mixture in the evening when I was relaxing. The downside of these products is they look like mud and leave your shower looking like a muddy dog was washed in there, but it's worth it to have hair colour without losing so much hair.
