This is an amazing bag -- I've spent a lot looking around and so far this is the only bag that's met the criteria I want. I use this mostly as a mountaineering and trekking backpack, and so far it's been able to hold it's own. I would say that you can notice it being a bit on the heavier side, but I was okay with that as I had a lighter bag before which I ripped a strap from. Having the side pouches is nice, but where it really shines is the access and ability to strap what you need and where. The hip belt pivots nicely, and I would say that everything has more room than I needed. I would almost look towards the basic aircontact for more of a hiking or overnight bag as this has more space and straps than I need for one night trips, but it's amazing for multi. I'm over 6' tall, and the bottom of hip belt did not touch iliac crest of my hipbone even after I fully extended the shoulder straps and attached back pad. The pack might fit if you are many inches shorter, but I recommend trying this pack on in a store before purchase.
