The assembly instructions were useless, so I found a YuTube video that walked me through the process easily. I haven't used it yet because I was waiting for some feather boards to be delivered. Although there wasn't one edge or corner of the box that was undamaged, the saw and stand were almost untouched. There is a slight divot in the fence, but even worse, the "locks" for the fence do not prevent the fence from moving. That is a problem I will have to work on. I researched DeWalt's policy about damages and it turns out the entire machine must be mailed back to them instead of sending a replacement part. I'm a 77 year-old woman. Assembled table and stand and noticed the narrow rip fence was crooked, it would not sit parallel on the table. I loosened all the screws on the bracket and tightened back down but no difference. Eventually I saw that the bracket on one side was bent, although no visible damage that would have caused this. I called Dewalt and told them all I needed was the replacement bracket. He and I looked through the schematic but couldn't find it, so we figured maybe it was only considered an assembled unit already connected to the rip fence. He told me they could get a replacement sent and put me on hold, but when he came back, he said the rip fence is considered an optional accessory, not part of the table saw, so they didn't have and couldn't send a new one. To my knowledge, Dewalt doesn't sell any brand-new table saws without a rip fence, so I don't understand how this is considered an optional accessory. It was such a minor issue, and while I wasn't thrilled, I understand manufacturing issues happen. All they had to do was ship a replacement bracket or rip fence. Instead, they forced me to load it up and return it. I have since purchased a different brand.

Purchased that saw couple of months back or so. I did some projects already with it - all furniture and no carpentry as such. I don't have any experience with other jobsite table saws to compare to so take my review with a grain of salt!. The only experience I've is on a 3 HP SawStop in my community center, but that is a different beast altogether!. Back to the 7491RS; as said I purchased this based on positive reviews almost everywhere and yes, after some usage and projects I can see why. This is an excellent saw, very precise, fence is great, loads of power - ripped 3" thick oak without even having to notice the difference in the motor's sound! Same while cutting dado of ¾” wide and 1/4” deep!!...Every -major- thing was square and parallel out of the box. I ... MorePurchased that saw couple of months back or so. Same while cutting dado of ¾” wide and 1/4” deep!!...Every -major- thing was square and parallel out of the box. I didn't need to adjust anything other than the 0-45 degree indicator and the 45 bevel .. (it was 44.85 :) ) I adjusted the rip measure indicator as well… but I believe because I used a combination 40T blade not the one supplied with the say… (never use that 24T yet!) ..Miter slot to blade and fence to blade and hence blade to fence were i excellent in alignment out of the box. (if I recall it was within 0.002” or so .. and I'm fine with that. Now comes the areas for improvement; the table is not that flat, I am not sure if you can achieve the level of flatness of cast iron with aluminum or not. but yes, definitely it had some streaks of light here and there with the straight edge. Also, the throat plate was not flush no matter how much you try to adjust ... still couldn't have it 100% right.... strangely enough... after a month or so of usage ... it was excellent from itself!. And yes, as everybody else said. The miter gauge is a joke for any serious stuff... (i.e. furniture) ... but if you are just cross cutting for carpentry 2x4s and stuff.. it should be more than adequate. If you are going to make some precise cross cuts, you will need a third party miter gauge... -i go Incra and it's great with the saw- however, you will need to kind of clean/sand the miter slots as the paint job of the table is really on sub par compared to the rest of the saw quality.lastly once you deploy the stand, you can't really move the saw easily as the wheels are up .. it's very sturdy then... but if you need to maneuver here and there with the stand deployed ... it's not that easy .. or you will need to unfold it and relocate the saw.In a nutshell, this is an excellent saw if you want to build furniture with - small scale/DIY or course - and honestly I think it would a bit of an overkill for carpentry stuff :)... too much precision for that and you will definitely get use of the ample power in that case.
I was looking to replace my trusty DeWalt DW785 job site table saw which I have had over 10 years.I honestly did not have super high expectations that this table saw would be much better but it did have a larger table, greater rip capacity (which is primarly what I was looking for) and dado capabilities. I did not think I would be using the included stand since I built my own stand for my current table saw.Needless to say, I was duly impressed. The stand is much sturdier and stable than I was expecting. The riving knife removal/insertion is slick with the side mounted lever. The table fence is easily adjustable for the great rip capacity. All in all, I think this will work out fine. The bottom of the saw is easy to reach for cleaning and maintenance. All the accessories store easily on the saw itself. My only complaints are that the assembly instructions could be clearer. Perhaps including more images would make things easier. In the end, everything assembled as expected. There were several things out of alignment out of the box but they were easily corrected. The fence was not square front to back. The riving knife was off a bit. All in all, a worthwhile upgrade for me.
Having used a cheaper table saw for half a year, I did some research, read many many reviews, and decided to buy this DeWalt 10 inch table saw that included a stand.I saw the negative reviews, and chucked it up to either damage and shipping or people not mechanically inclined. I didn’t know how to set up their saw.Assembly took me less than 30 minutes. The next 30 minutes I spent adjusting the stops to adjust for perfect 0° up to a perfect 45°. Next adjusted the scale pointer so that when I said it for 1 inch or 10 inches I got precisely a perfect cut plus or minus within a 64th of an inch. I could not ask for more from such a small well-built machine. The mechanisms and latches are excellent, the workmanship in manufacturing is excellent and I found this song ... MoreHaving used a cheaper table saw for half a year, I did some research, read many many reviews, and decided to buy this DeWalt 10 inch table saw that included a stand.I saw the negative reviews, and chucked it up to either damage and shipping or people not mechanically inclined. The mechanisms and latches are excellent, the workmanship in manufacturing is excellent and I found this song very intuitive and easy to use.My first cut required a 45° angle rip cut followed by a 75° angle cut to fit a unique piece over a door porch. The cuts were straight and pure and I’m extremely happy with the results of this song and it’s cutting. I think there’s a reason why it’s been on the market for so many years, Dewalt really got it right with this product and for the money, it’s probably one of the best table saws you can buy.I also like the stand that came with it, I felt it’s robust And yet easy to collapse and stow away everything on end. Read all the positive reviews and pick one of these up for yourself, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I needed a portable saw until I can get my Ridgid cast iron saw out of storage. So, based on reviews, I purchased this one. The saw has some good features and design ideas though not always well executed. The portable stand is handy, though mine was dented with shipping and I had to straighten it out with a hammer to get the holes to align (not the fault of the product but the shipping and I didn't want to ship it back and go through that hassle). The dust collection is effective but it it is bulky and the cloth that surrounds the throatplate causes issues with aligning items like the dado throatplate. The bevel controller is a pain to deal with and requires a bit of elbow grease, initially, in order for it to move. The dust collection is effective but it it is bulky and the cloth that surrounds the throatplate causes issues with aligning items like the dado throatplate. The bevel controller is a pain to deal with and requires a bit of elbow grease, initially, in order for it to move. AT 45 degrees, the existing throatplate is ineffective and there is also some resistance with the dust collector. The miter gauge is crap but most of them are so that is not a deal breaker. The rip fence is what I find particularly irksome. There are three screws that can potentially hold the fence on each side. The idea is that it allows for different placement with a screw on each end holding the fence. The problem with this design is that the fence is not always square, without further refinement, and sometimes the screws will move just a little, but enough to throw a piece out of square when cutting. So you really have to spend a lot of time going back and forth and making sure everything is super tight and square. If I am making cuts of various width, I don't need that aggravation and woodworking becomes less a pleasure and more an aggravation. The fence is also flat, without any magnetic qualities and no t slots. So jig making becomes more complex and minimizes your options to correct its faults with aftermarket products. I bought the saw a few weeks ago. I wanted to wait until I put it through my paces and iron out what issues were just lack of familiarity and which were aggravations with design. For rough carpentry, I am sure the saw works fine. For woodworking that requires stringent accuracy for cuts, this just doesn't fit the bill. Again, we all have learned to work with deficiencies and find solutions around it but I do think that this saw was not executed well.
I purchased this table saw today at Lowes but it wasn't until after I had assembled the saw stand and was about to attach the saw that I realized it had critical flaws. The first thing I noticed was that the fence was practically unusable. The big dent in the fence face is what drew my attention. Upon closer inspection, I realized the secondary fence was bent so badly that it wouldn't align with the main part of the fence. There was also a crease down the center of the fence. When I put a straight edge on it it was about 1/16" wider at the top than at the bottom. So depending on the thickness of the material the cuts could be off by 1/16". Next, I realized the motor/blade was out of alignment. When measuring from the miter slots, or anything else resembling a straight edge on the saw table, there was a 1/8" difference between the front of the blade and the back. I took measurements from both miter slots as well as the fence and the results were all the same. This isn't adjustable. Next, the dip in the center of the table on the left side of the blade was 2/16" deep, and about 1/16" deep on the right side. At this point, I didn't even bother plugging the saw in. So I disassembled it, boxed it back up, and returned it to Lowes for a refund. Once there the Lowe's employees allowed me to unbox another table saw and inspect it before I purchased it. This time the saw was in much better shape. The only thing I could see was a very small ding in the face of the fence. However, when I'd run a straight edge across it it didn't seem to affect anything. So I felt better about taking this one home. Once back home with the replacement saw I measured everything again before assembling the saw stand. Once I dialed everything in I made a few cuts with some scrap wood and so far this saw looks to be in much better shape. After reading other reviews about flawed fences and misaligned motors I highly recommend unboxing and inspecting this saw while you are still in the store before you purchase it. Thankfully the nice employees at Lowes allowed me to do this. If I didn't waste half a day with the first saw I'd have given this one 5 stars.
After much research i have purchased this saw and was very excited to use it. Picked it up from lowes just to discover a dent in the fence, after returning it and getting home i opened the box to find another dent on the fence! Back to lowes for the third time, got the saw home to find it terribly out of square, fence was out of square on one side and square on the other? Motor was 1/8 off, from the throat plate, what a mess. After an hour of setting it up i turned it on to find out it has runout! Got frustrated and wanted my money back at lowes but they told me that somebody made a mistake and returned it as store credit the first time i came to exchange and now all they can do is give me store credit. I bought this saw 6 months ago and it continues to not disappoint. I wrote an earlier review regarding the out of box experience, but have since been able to put it through its paces. The rack and pinion fence is great and after a very minor adjustment it has stayed perfectly aligned to the blade and miter slots. The saw tilt mechanism is a little clumsy and can be difficult to set it to a perfect 45, but the limit stop once set seems to make that easier. I discovered the fence was a little out of parallel with the table and there does not seem to be an easy adjustment for that (design flaw?). I fixed it by taping a little brass shim on the guide rail where the fence rests so that took care of it. The factory blade is - ummm - not the best. I fixed it by taping a little brass shim on the guide rail where the fence rests so that took care of it. The factory blade is - ummm - not the best. I replaced it with a Ridge Carbide 10” combo and dado set (which combined cost almost as much as the saw) but now it cuts through soft and hardwoods like Oak, Maple, and Walnut like butter with zero tear out. Dust collection is surprisingly good even when you can’t use the overhead saw guard (eg for dado cuts). I made an “L-Fence” and several cross-cut sleds to produce more accurate rips, cross cuts, dados, and small part miter cuts. The sleds also solved a (very) small dip in the saw’s aluminum table surface - but you would use these accessories with your most expensive table saws, so that was not an issue for me. This is a perfect saw for a woodcraft hobbyist with limited space. I am cautiously optimistic that this saw will produce great wood projects for years to come.
