DeWalt 18V Right Angle Drill Skin DCD740N-XE

Held off buying one of these for years, until I needed to cit a hole in the back of a soil stack with very little room-after spending hours messing around and wrecking a dry lined wall this got into the corner and hole cut in 5 minutes. Just wish it was a little cheaper as I won't use that much

Absolutely brilliant

Every time I found myself with a space too small to use a normal drill/driver I wished I had bought one of these beauties. So, eventually, I took the plunge! Oh my word, what a wonderful decision. Why hadn't I done it before? It's magic. It's saved so much frustration. I can't believe how powerful it is. Take my advice - don't delay - get one now.

Compact, deep 10mm chuck

Wanted one of these for a while, had a job drilling between joists where it bacame essential.I had not realised the chuck is only 10mm, so used to larger chucks, but it does seem to be deep, i.e. you can minimise lenght the sticks out in tight spaces, which is what it is for after all. Quality seems same as my other DeWalt tools, which is why I go it.Not a lot of extra features.

Excellent Value

The build quality as you would expect from Dewalt Excellent.It’s great for getting into places that are hard to reach with a standard drill. Variable Speed as well and reverse.A Great Handy Tool and Bare it adds to my 18v collection.

Great for confined spaces

Dewalt always great product. Great for drilling and screwing in confined spaces such as between joists. Easy to use and two speed option really useful. Should be in everyone’s toolbox

Great in tight spaces

This was one of my best buys, it’s extremely useful in tight spaces. I used it when drilling through joists for electrical cables. Interchangeable batteries with my other dewalt tools which is very useful. The only down side is it’s not brushless !

Handy tool

Reasonable Lightweight with decent torque . chuck capacity 10mm so for boring decent sized holes in joist requires 6mm hex drive bits . If you are doing holes where spacing of joists is spasmodic ` its very handy to have . I use with a combination of armeg stubby wood bits , so far so good , and a good price

Should have had it years ago

Great drill for confined spaces. Used it today for the first time to drill holes through reinforcing joists to bolt them together. After drilling 5 x 12mm holes through three six by two joists clamped together, for bolts, the battery still had loads of power left. Great to be able to do it with one hand, unlike those right angle adapters you get wher you need two hands.It was the first time I had bought DeWalt tools, so had to buy the brushless combi drill to get battery. Needed a new one anyway since the gearbox in my other drill was giving problems

Useful for hard to reach ares

Only used a handful of times since purchased and has performed well. Great with short auger bits between joists to give a straight hole. I have only used a 20mm up to now but breezed through with plenty of torque on the slower speed setting. The length helps control this torque but sometimes need to fiddle a bit to get in where access is a bit limited. The Chuck is only 10mm so I had to “modify” the drill bit shaft with my grinder. All in all pleased with this addition to my other DeWalt kit.

disappointment plus!

This is the second one I bought, the first didn't manage to drill through the joist before burning out. The second one lasted a couple of months, it was mainly used for screwing in a loft installation and stopped working today (17 April 2024). Maybe did 2/3 loft.Good drill if you what to throw away money and stop work progress :(Definitely would not recommend and look for another brand. I have other Dewalt tools which I do like and have no problems
