I actually wanted a cordless heat gun but the reviews suggest that they don’t get as hot as a mains gun and that they get through batteries at quite a rate so I decided on the mains version. You get used to not having to drag cables about nowadays, particularly if you’re working off a ladder etc and it’s still as inconvenient as it ever was but that’s offset by the superior heat it provides and not having to swap and charge batteries.

I did struggle with this at first as the heat setting was the opposite to what I expected, the large side of the dial is the minimum setting while the small side was maximum? Once I realised this it did take a while to get the technique right but once in the swing of it the Dewalt heat gun works well, I stripped several coats off an old gate but did experiment with several scrapers finding the ones with the triangle type end more effective than a flat scraper which hardly touched it. One of the main advantages was there was a lot less fumes than with a blowlamp, the flat end which acts as a stand is a big bonus as it's very stable to just leave in a safe position while drinking tea or whatever distractions you may get.Overall a quality product that may take a ... MoreI did struggle with this at first as the heat setting was the opposite to what I expected, the large side of the dial is the minimum setting while the small side was maximum? Money well spent on this heat gun. We've tried others in the past and they take a lot of time to heat up and remove the paint. This heats up really quickly and makes removing paint fun.To get into the details:- On the back of the heat gun there is an option to control the temperature.- After using it you can turn it to the lowest temperature and then it helps cool the heat gun really quickly. However I would still wait the 30mins before touching it or packing it away as advised on the manual.- The heat gun feels sturdy and well built to last a long time.- Also comes with a 3 year guarantee if you register within the 2 weeks of purchase.- Keep your proof of purchase receipt if it's physical or digital as they will need this for any repairs or refunds. ... MoreMoney well spent on this heat gun. DeWalt Does the Job Better than Most Others from My Experience.

Bought mainly due the DeWalt brand plus the variable heat control & the ability for the heat gun to be freestanding leaving both hands free in use. Its main use is for heating / removing smartphone screens & having both hands free to work on the smartphone is a real bonus as opposed to other brands which cannot be used freestanding. Yes, there are some heat guns on the market which are cheaper under brand names I have never heard of. You buy cheap you get cheap, or you get what you pay for are two saying which usually ring true.To sum everything up excellent / reliable brand, competitively priced & in stock at my local ToolStation. What more can a buyer ask for.

Utilized the heat gun at maximum power for a consecutive three-day period to effectively remove paint from timber fascia and apex. Subsequently, conducted a test on a concrete window sill to assess its paint-stripping capabilities, yielding positive results. This tool represents a suitable option for individuals seeking a balance between affordability and quality.

I bought this to burn off old paint on the stairs. The heat intensity was good but it's a shame it only comes with 2 attachments hence only 4 stars. I used the nozzle attachment. The nozzle on my previous heat gun had a shield attached to it to protect the surround wood. This nozzle does NOT have a shield attached to it. The previous owners only had carpet in the middle so I only needed to remove paint from the edges. I started with a sander but it didn't work as the paint was really thick. I then tried paint stripper and a heavy duty paint scraper but the paint stripper formula is too weak and was only doing 1 layer at a time. I used paint stripper years ago and it was brilliant but now it's just too weak for stair paint. Underneath 3 layers of paint was some sort ... MoreI bought this to burn off old paint on the stairs. I used paint stripper years ago and it was brilliant but now it's just too weak for stair paint. Underneath 3 layers of paint was some sort of black glue resembling bitumen. I don't really know what it was but it wasn't coming off, hence the heat gun. I also bought a shave hook, combined with the scraper and heat gun the black gluey stuff came off. I then finished the stairs with a sander. I wish I'd have just used the heat gun in the beginning. It would have saved time, money and aching arms. All the tools I used were from tool station

It's a heat gun

Seems a competent heat gun. It's yellow and black. The facility to stand it on its backside for hands-free use may come in handy, but it's a bit "tippy" in that position (yes, even with the feet extended) so care must be taken as the cable is quite stiff and seems to have a mind of its own.I have deducted a star for that reason and also that the box depicts a 90 degree flat nozzle NOT the straight one pictured in the TS photos.

Perfect for the job

After 25 years of sterling service my B&D 200W hot air gun went pop, I researched through different sites and this one for the money came out best, my other DeWalt power tools have also given great service and power. For 1800 Watts of power this does a great job stripping off the old paint and varnish from my 90 year old wooden doors. It comes with two very useful nozzles which concentrate the heat either for panels or detailed mouldings (beware it is hot enough to scorch the wood if you do not exercise caution or if you leave it aimed in one place on high for too long)The design is simple and user friendly so it is a pleasure to use, even given the tedium of paint stripping, I only have 6 more door sides to strip but this will not be as challenging with this hot ... MoreAfter 25 years of sterling service my B&D 200W hot air gun went pop, I researched through different sites and this one for the money came out best, my other DeWalt power tools have also given great service and power. For 1800 Watts of power this does a great job stripping off the old paint and varnish from my 90 year old wooden doors. Quality kit

This heat gun is a really well made piece of kit. I’ve used used budget heat guns and always found them not to be up to the job or they get too hot.The heat controls on the Dewalt are precise with two fan settings and the clever stand feature allows it to be used safely as a bench tool.Very pleased with purchase and would definitely recommend this tool

Used successfully for paint stripping.

Does the job for stripping paint and varnish off an old chest of drawers. Not massively fast because it's only 1600W but that also means burning wood is less likely? Accessories are useful, or at least the flat nozzle is. Rear stand is an excellent idea I expect to use for other jobs in future. All at a pretty good price - hopefully with a DeWalt label it is worth the several times cost of the no-name brand cheapies.
