Well built and relatively cheap to buy, in terms of DeWalt power tools. One of those tools many overlook as technically their combi drill can perform a similar function. An impact driver can drive fasteners in or out much more efficiently however, this one has over 200Nm of torque, a top DeWalt combi tops out around 94Nm. That means with the impact driver you can drive in, or more typically drive out screws you would have no chance shifting manually or with a combi drill. Great little tool. Is compatible with certain hex drill bits too but I think I will be keeping mine strictly as a screwdriver and leave the drilling to a combi, or an SDS drill.

I suppose it depends on your manufacturer preference but I am a Dewalt enthusiast and find them well made and reliable I still have some off my first purchases including some original battery drills so this new 3 speed impact drill driver is an edition I an looking forward to many years usage. It feels good not to heavy so it seems too be the way drill drivers are going and now they are improving the pz2 and other types of bits to suit the impact drivers it only gets better and this Dewalt is the one for me .

Okay for the money. Chuck wobbles though which creates its own problems. Googled it when I received the product and it appears to be a common issue with these impacts through wear and tear. Bitterly disappointed it came out the box like this though. Spend the money for a Milwaukee is what I would suggest.

Hey 👋I'm on steel work, if someone heard about durasteel.Driving Tek screws like crazy all day in a 3mm steel plate, plus a double metal sheet fire board 9mm, really impressed with the quality. Very handy, easy to work and especially the trigger with speed adjustment is unbelievable helpful. So guys if U are looking for good reliable impact driver dcf887 won't disappoint anyone, obviously not saying about those who's addicted to a certain brand or make like Makita, Milwaukee etc.Advice: on a tough jobs use with battery no less than 4 ah.Regards Mihail

Oh God I love this impact, I wore my last one out so fast (not Dewalt) and this was priced right so it was a no brainer. I am amazed at the power of this thing even with a 5A battery.Great tool for just screwing a door hinge on the low setting all the way to undoing workshop items that are so ridiculously tight on high.Brilliant.

Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. 205nm more than enough. Don’t really need 3 speeds as pressure sensitive trigger so can control your own speed. But for the money priceless.

For something so small it packs a punch

I was amazed at the size of the Dewalt Impact driver, compared to my Dewalt drill. Its a lot smaller but it boy packs a punch. I was shocked at the power this tool can generate. Great investment for any DIYer but please note you will need to buy impact drill bits to get the most out of this cordless tool

Not perfect, but very good

If you are already on the Dewalt battery platform buying this impact driver is a "no brainer". It is sturdy, well made and has heaps more driving power that you'll ever really need. I am a tradesman and have always just used a cordless drill for screw driving tasks. This impact driver has quickly become my most used tool by a wide margin. The drill only every sees the light of day now for pre-drilling where I'm worried about splitting or fastening to heavy steel and drilling tiles, etc. There are plenty of comparison reviews online which pit this driver off against comparable drivers from other quality brands, but just to give an idea of the driving power, it easily (and quickly) drove a 38mm 8g pan head self tapper all the way through a 70mm pine stud. Keep in mind that this is not a countersinking, self cutting head fastener, it is a pan head. I have found the slow speed to be mostly useless. There might certain cases where it is useful but I haven't found any yet. My driver pretty well lives in #2 speed. This is probably due to the type of work screws I am driving all day every day, 8g and 10g into wall plugs, timber, light and heavy steel. I think the highest speed would probably be quite useful for 14g hex fasteners (T17 and metal drilling) as jumping off the fastener isless of a concern. I find the variable speed trigger on speed #2 allows plenty of control and the impact mechanism almost acts as a clutch when fastening into wall plugs. I never use the clutch when driving screws with a cordless drill, just feather the variable speed to get the correct torque. With this impact driver in speed #2, and fixing 8g fasteners into wall plugs, I feather the speed down and allow one or two clicks of the impact mechanism and that's about right. I know it's not designed as a clutch mechanism but is kind of works that way for certain driving applications. This driver isn't perfect though and the one downside is the amount of play in the chuck. It is my first impact driver so don't really have others to compare it to but I have read a lot of reviews on various branded impact drivers and I understand that all have play in the chuck to some degree, but Dewalt is the worst for this. There is a fair amount of wobble at the end of a 150mm driver bit (which I have to use for most of my work). This really only becomes a problem when using longish self drilling metal screws. You have to use good quality, matched fasteners/bit and line up perfectly during the drilling stage or the bit will jump off the screw. If you aren't already bought into the Dewalt platformand you are trying to decide if this impact driver is the tool to pursued you to do so, then your decision is a bit more difficult. It is a very good tool and many online test comparisons show it outperforming other quality brands. However I think the brushless, 18v impact driver options from each of the trade quality tool manufacturers is plenty good enough to serve you well. Therefore I don't believe the impact driver alone will be the tool to convince anyone to buy into a particular platform. That decision should be based on overall affordability and availability of the tools you need within the range. I find Dewalt tools and batteries can be found a bit cheaper than Milwaukee, Makita and Hilti. The Dewalt range has tools the others don't and the others have tools Dewalt doesn't. If you are like me and have specific tool requirements, none of the platforms have all the tools you need. I have to run 3 different platforms........argh!

Powerful, compact and durable, a very handy tool

I bought this impact driver as part of a five piece kit in June 2020, when I finally decided on DeWalt as the tool brand I would buy into, after some research and asking various friends. In hindsight I think I made the right decision, and I wish I’d taken the plunge into the DeWalt cordless tools sooner! I persisted with a mediocre corded Bosch drill for my driving needs for far too long! This is the first impact driver I’ve owned. I had used my friend's Makita impact driver a bunch of times, but for some reason I was dismissive of the need for such a tool when he suggested I get one. That was naive, because I’ve since found the impact driver to be an almost essential tool to have. They drive screws way more easily than my old Bosch drill. I had used my friend's Makita impact driver a bunch of times, but for some reason I was dismissive of the need for such a tool when he suggested I get one. That was naive, because I’ve since found the impact driver to be an almost essential tool to have. They drive screws way more easily than my old Bosch drill. And they go a long way in overcoming the issue of a Phillips bit camming out of a Phillips screw. My old drill struggles to drive some of the longer 14g batten screws into hardwood, for example, but this impact driver has no problem. It also has no trouble driving 12g roofing screws into hardwood without pre-drilling. I’ve mainly used it with hardwood and it’s managed everything I’ve thrown at it.I also have a cheaper DeWalt impact Driver which I got from a redemption, the DCF787N-XJ, and with 170 Nm of torque, it’s noticeably less powerful than this DCF887 with 205 Nm of torque. The DCF787 seems to start impacting much sooner than the DCF887, so I’d recommend this one over the cheaper one.The three LED’s surrounding the hex holder of the drill are fully effective at lighting up the working space. It’s quite compact, so useful for driving screws in tight spaces. It’s lightweight, well balanced and comfortable to hold; it seems to fit my large hands perfectly - certainly a lot better than my Bosch drill which caused my hand to ache after a while.Another feature I love is the chuck design, which contains a spring to eject the bit and enables me to change bits quickly and easily with only one hand.I’d recommend using a smaller 18V battery with it, like the 4 Ah or 5 Ah, rather than the larger 18V/54V Flexvolt batteries, in order to save on weight. My kit only came with the larger 6 Ah batteries, and it made the drill a little unwieldy to use. The 4 or 5 Ah batteries are more than sufficient - they last so long that I basically forget about charging them. They would last me a week of heavy use, or weeks of light use.I can’t think of any negatives with this driver, it ticks all the boxes for me.

I bought this to replace my 15-year-old Makita Impact Driver. I use the Makita exclusively as a screw driver and it has always impressed me. I use it very regularly in all sorts of different situations. On the Makita, the trigger/speed is very controllable and there is plenty of power for all standard applications. As soon as the screw starts to tighten, the hammer kicks in to give the right assistance at any speed or torque. I bought the DeWalt for battery compatibility reasons with other hand and garden tools that I own. This tool is all wrong! I bought the DeWalt for battery compatibility reasons with other hand and garden tools that I own. This tool is all wrong! On setting 2, there is loads of power, but the hammer starts only at very high torque, well after you want it. It is just about OK if you are at the bench and pushing straight down towards the workpiece, but if you reaching, up a ladder, or at a bit of an angle you can’t get enough force into the tool to get the hammer going; you lose the head on the screw straight away and can’t get it to pull in. On setting 1, there is no hammer at all - it doesn’t come on in this mode. Just as the screw is tightening the tool slows to a standstill. Even in low torque situations the screw is left proud and you get that frustrating flat-battery sound and feel. Useless. Setting 3, I have not used. Presumably this is for driving screws straight into very hard materials. I will keep the driver for high torque applications – but I’m going to carry on using the Makita for day to day work – very disappointed DeWalt!
