It’s so well designed. So easy to change bits and with the added guide rail connecting to the Dewalt track, you will achieve flawlessly straight rebates. It comes with two bases and really solid cast iron parallel guides to attach to the fence, of which there are two, one for each base. The depth stop is achieved with one hand and the fine tuning to raise or drop a mm here and there is so very simple and well thought through. As always, you can’t beat Axminster for a prompt well packaged delivery. Only criticism is that the TSTAK interior could have been better by design although it connects so well to the others, you can forgive that small detail. I love it! I’ve been after one of these for a while now and finally decided to order from FFX.I use a router maybe a couple of times a week in work and this is perfect for the smaller lightweight jobs.I’d read reviews that complained about the fact that it’s advertised as an 8mm collet and that they’d struggled to get cutters for it but there’s actually a 1/4” collet in the box that takes less than a minute to swap out.My only complaint is that at this price you’d expect it to come with a battery but that’s outweighed by the T Stack case I suppose.

Firstly, the diameter is little bigger than other trimmers which provides a larger footprint to the base plate. Its also extended on one side to a straight edge. This helps to hold the trimmer flat on your work piece and keeps movement smooth and steady. The centre hole in the base plate is quite large, big enough to get a rebate bit through. You can't get a biscuit bit through but there's enough room to insert the bit and tighten the collet (which btw locks in multiple positions so tightening up and untightening is easy). The trimmer adjusts via a screw method machined into the motor body. This for me makes depth adjustment real easy. Release the clamp, twist to set depth, close clamp. ***The only thing I would say is you have to be careful how you pick up and hold the trimmer once you've set the depth. The screw adjuster is slap bang in the middle if the trimmer and when you go to grab the rubber handhold you can easily grab the adjuster and it feels like you've moved the set depth. (If that makes sense)***The other thing I like is the fence. It works as a fence should but it's the attention to detail on ease of use. The fixing screws are located on the fence itself so you dont have to dig around looking for them. The fence slots between the base and base plate and screws into the body. Dewalt have even machined access holes in the base plate so you dont have to remove it to fit the fence. All in all I love this tool. I've given 4 stars as due the hand hold / adjuster niggle but also because it's quite expensive compared to some good competitors.

This router benefits from being cordless making it versatile indoors or on site. It’s has both fixed and plunge bases, the release tabs making it easy to switch between both. The router has a brushless motor which gives maximum run time with no maintenance required and it’s perfect for all sorts of jobs such as inlay cavities, mortising, detail edging to wood and much more. The soft start motor ensures electronic speed maintenance throughout the cut and the clear base with led lights makes visibility perfect at all times. The kit contains all accessories you will need for a wide type of jobs and the T stack is ideal if you have other tools in the Dewalt range. Altogether a brilliant bit of kit for professions or DIY enthusiast alike.

DeWalt DCW604NT-XJ 18v XR Brushless 1/4" Router in TSTAK Case
4 January 2022

Years since I bought my corded router, now have loads of Dewalt 18v tools and batteries. only briefly tried the tool in all its configurations and it performs as I expected of a Dewalt product, AWSOME! The insert for the case however is a different story. Looking at it there seems to be about 40% wasted space and everything needs to be disassembled to fit back in the tray. Headed for the bin! couple of bits of foam made storage so much better and even space for a 35 piece bit set. Shame a great tool is let down by poorly designed storage. MDM.

Bought to compliment another DCW604 router I already own. Very happy with my purchase, and for my level of carpentry, this router suits my needs perfectly. The case itself is excellent, but it has a (removable) moulded insert that takes up way too much room and seems to be totally impracticable for holding the parts together - for example, the side fences cannot be stored assembled and have to be dismantled everytime to be stored. I removed the moulded case and use the TStack on its own which allows me to add a selection of bits - in fact, one case holds both of my DCW604 routers, with all accessories and bits and even a circle jig I made for my routersGreat router as you would expect from DeWalt, and an ideal addition to your tool box

Great bit of kit
31 July 2023

Latest addition to my Dewalt tool collection replacing a 25 year old Bosch corded router. This is a great little tool and works with 6mm and 8mm routing bits. The collet fitted is the 8mm so you’ll need to swap with the included 6mm collet.Comes with an organiser inside the case which is a great bonus - all very study though I’m sure to fill up the mouldings with sawdust over time.Easy to use with variable speed as well. In trim frame very light and controllable with just one hand.Overall very impressed.

7 December 2022

Two of the 6mm tapped holes had to be re tapped to take the 6mm clamping bolts for the guide rods. This required the removal of the Perspex base plate. The screws holding the base plate had been factory torqued at too high a setting requiring a fair bit of force to remove them at risk of stripping the head. Something I shouldn’t have had to do but I needed the router.

First, it’s very pricey, which could be forgiven if it came with batteries, but it doesn’t, it’s just the bare machine. Second, the insert inside the T-Stak case is almost useless. The compartments don’t fit the machine unless you take off the dust extractor, the parallel guides etc. The case itself is great, just not the insert. It would have been better with the dense foam inserts that come with other DeWalt T-Stak cases. After this I’ll be looking for other jobs that I can use it for…I’ve got the routing bug!

I’m DIY and never used a router before but always fancied one in the kit. I’m doing some out of sight work in the loft so was able to practice without too much worry. Made a few errors where the blade dug in. But with practice and care it’s easy to achieve good neat results pretty quickly. I bought a cheap set of bits and suspect I might get even neater results with more expensive bits. Had to run the odd edge down with sandpaper to remove some clingers on by which I’ll blame on the cheap bits/bad technique. Can totally recommend. I only have 2ah batteries and they don’t last long. The Dewalt DCW604 18V XR Brushless Router features an all-metal motor for jobsite durability. The Router is the first from Dewalt that is design to deal with a large range of second-fix woodwork jobs such as kitchen fitting, trim carpentry and remodelling. Controlled by an electronic, variable speed motor from 16,000 to 25,000rpm, the router maintains speed under load, 55mm depth plunge, equipped with soft-start to minimise start up torque and an electronic brake to reduce bit coast down time when the unit is powered off. Dual LED’s help illuminate dark work areas, an adjustable quick release clamp for smooth and secure actuation, quick release tabs for simple base removal, a depth adjust ring for fast accurate depth settings, an easy-to-use spindle lock with a large button and 12-position ratcheting lock. The stable D-shaped base provides edge profiling and radius referencing and the router is also plunge-base compatible. At the heart of this power tool is the brushless motor that allows you to use them efficiently. As part of the design, the tool utilizes every bit of battery power when you need, all while reducing the need for ongoing maintenance by reducing the amount of heat generated and working more efficiently. The technology in creating a brushless motor system allows for perfect symmetry between battery power and usage ensuring you get all the power you need, when you need it.
