Very cheap plastic base assembly. The clear plastic part that holds the latch broke on the first use. Cannot return it, beyond the return time. A replacement base stripped of all clips latches and screws cost $25 and since there are no improvements my guess is it will break again. Will try a hose clamp like a previous reviewer wrote.

I've heard people complain about the plastic parts. And it's true, this isn't the most versatile router. Having said that, I only use it to perform one task and it does the job. Small radius round over bits on wood edges, and that's it. So why not just get a REAL decent router? Because I don't care to keep resetting or changing out bits when I'm building. This is just for trim and I like it that way.

I bought this trim router 2 or 3 years ago for my shop did not use it often but when absolutely needed it to trim a table for a client the base broke when locked down a complaint others have had with the base of this router. The clear base was a nice feature for visibility but is definitely not Dewalt Tough... I went on replacement parts websites and the base only cost almost as much as the router itself. I will not buy the replacement base unless Dewalt made some quality changes to the base.Long time buyer of Dewalt tools but they missed the mark on this one. Please Dewalt upgrade the quality of the base and some of your other tools and I will consider not going to other tool manufacturers for future equipment purchasers.

Used this router several times over two weeks or so. Worked well until the latch to lock in the depth snapped. The clear plastic guard/housing allows you to see the work better, but is not robust enough for repeated locking and unlocking. For $40 more, the DeWalt DWP611 has a metal body and metal guard. Depth adjustments are smoother / more precise. Latch FEELS better. Plus, you get variable speed (huge plus) and two LED lights instead of one.Lowes accepted my return with no questions asked, and I ponied up the extra $40 for the better model. Buy once, cry once.
There are a lot of bad reviews for this router, which are warranted . But there is a fix! If when locking the base, you hear a 'cracking' sound... STOP! If you don't the base will break in half. There is a set screw under the clamp lever, back it off until you can clamp the base without the awful cracking sound. This router is quiet and very, very easy to adjust the depth. I only wish it was variable speed (for my use case).
It took me about 45 seconds of routing to break this. I was routing out a 2x10 to make a case for a gear puller using a 3/8 bit and going into the lumber approximately 1/4". It hit a knot in the wood ( cheap pine that I bought at the same time as the router, Lowes lumber is a subject of another review though ), jerked up against the 2x4 I was using as a guide, barely bumped the guide, and broke the plastic piece that the latch catches on. I see in other reviews that this breaking is a common problem. The plastic base clips on to the plastic coarse depth adjustment ring ( you can see the release ears to the left and right of the large latch in the pictures ) and just about has to be removed to be able to get a hold of the coarse adjustment. The coarse adjustment just threads up on down on the motor housing. You can see the threads in the plastic just above the word Dewalt in the pictures. This is just about impossible to turn. The top mounted switch makes it way too easy to turn the router off while your using it with two hands. The lock button for the spindle seemed to work really well and I had no issues locking the bit in the collet with the plastic guide still attached to the unit.I couldn't tell there was an LED light on it while I was using it, even though I was inside a pretty shabbily lit room. For the few seconds it worked, it seemed to have plenty of power.Getting a refund and buying a Bosch or maybe the higher priced Dewalt. I see they fixed almost all those issues with the variable speed versions.
This is a good product that I have been looking for these past several months. I needed a small router that I could use for small projects and the usual router was too big to handle on small boards. The only issue I have is with the adjustable base. The fine adjustable wheel works easy but the large adjustable wheel is hard to turn and the micro adjustable wheel gets in the way while turning. Most of the time I have to take off the base to get the wheel to turn. This product is just what I've been needing for a long time.
Bought this a few years ago. Base where it latches broke couple months after I got it. ended up putting a large hose clamp on it so I could still use it. Now 2 of the areas where the screws go broke. Extreamly cheap plastic base.
I bought this small router two years ago, and have zero problems. Works great for softwoods or laminates. I most commonly use for adding detail to small projects like picture frames, but have also used it as a trim router for household furniture like nightstands, coffee tables, etc.... great trim router for the money and works great!! Highly recommend!!
the plastic base is a problem for so many reasons. get the next level up with the metal sleeve. otherwise the motor is a great unit. i wish the metal sleeves were backwards compatible so i could upgrade this unit instead of buying a new one altogether.
